I'm just an Army grunt, but I have very close to the same 5 core weapons. Only difference is my go-to AR is chambered in .308 and the reason I went that route is being a remote mountain dweller, with more big critter threat than 2 legged threat and rolling solo, I want my primary weapon to pack a heavier punch at a better range than 5.56 offers. That being said if I were urban/suburban with more potential people threats in much closer ranges, I would deff be going for the 5.56 as my primary fighting weapon. Evaluate your environment/threats/needs and adjust accordingly.

      @darkgardener9577 Před 2 lety +70

@Brooklyn Boi Good thing I don't think that. If you read what I posted you'll see that I think for being alone in mountainous terrain where longer range engagements are more likely the 308 is a better option than the 5.56/223 and for suburban/urban the 5.56 is where it's at. I would rather have a squad of joes myself, but for personal security out here in the mountains of nowhereville that would be well beyond my budget.

I'd escaped from North Korea-alifornia five years ago. Bought my HK VP9 right after I got my new state's drivers license. No BFSC, no 10 day wait, no high cap magazine ban, no 1 gun a month, no assault weapon ban. Picked it out, 10 minutes to do the federal form and background check, and pay for it. Walk out the door.
Got my CCW. My new home state has constitutional carry so no permit for either concealed or open carry. I got my CCW as it makes buying a new gun faster. You don't need another background check as you already got a deep background checked already. And 37 other states honor my CCW. It's also a "shall issue" state. It's not based on how much you donated to the sheriff's re-election campaign.

I would always add a decent air rifle, particularly a pump type that does not require c02 cartridges. You can keep tens of thousands of bb's for almost no cost and be able to hunt lots of small game anywhere without making nearly any sound at all.

    • @guardiandevil3
      @guardiandevil3 Před 2 lety +26

I 100% agree and I'm looking for an air rifle that's good for it myself. The biggest thing I've run into is the bigger ones with CO2 can take out anything, the smaller pump ones can take out small game and the compact one's won't do anything. The added weight and bulk of the big and mid one's can be negated by a .22 lr rifle so it's just the best option in my book. Plus with a henry AR 7 they take up no space.

I found out from having to evacuate during Hurricane Florence that weight and concealment are a premium. In emergency disaster areas there are also, restrictions to carry that make it difficult to comply with the letter of the law versus protecting your family. We evacuated by boat with the Coast Guard flying above us. I was able to grab my BOB and a bag of food with my wife and kids carrying duffel bags with bare minimum clothes. The Northeast Cape Fear went 9' above our front yard and stayed up for over 14 days. We evacuated to my parents house about a mile from us but, were completely cut off from town due to flooding. We were surrounded by water for two weeks and running low on food. We ate out of the food trucks once the water dropped low enough to drive through into town. I developed a nasty staff infection from fire ant bites while walking in the flood water. I was treated at the emergency hospital tent they had setup in town. The Doctor said I had one of the nastiest infections she had seen as the back of my leg looked like hamburger meat. I share this as something for everyone to think about because it has changed how I prepare if we need to evacuate in the future.

12 ga. shotties trump all in this regard. As long as you can get primers (or make them) then you can use all sorts of crap as propellant, and use anything and everything as projectiles. Rusty old nuts and bolts, nails, ball bearings, hell-even rock salt! You can use match heads as propellant. Barbecue charcoal and tree stump remover (potassium nitrate) can be used as propellant as well. Reliable primers are the difficult part, but shotguns have EVERYTHING else going for them because when you're all out of ammo and nobody will sell you any (or nobody has any) then you can always improvise!

The other thing you get from the scattergun is the ability to hunt in places that don't allow rifles. The shotgun is the most versatile of the firearms. Deputy Fatally Shot Off Duty Officer ( WHO IS THE HOME OWNER THE CAR-JACKER AND HOME INVADER CAME TO ) - THE SHERIFF SHOOTS GOOD GUY DEAD !!! Clark County sheriff's Office Jan 29-2022
      czcams.com/video/hg5h4Iaf21o/video.html
Vancouver, Clark County, Washington --- On Saturday, January 29, 2022 around 2014 hours police responded to Chevron, 9810 NE 117th Avenue, Vancouver,
for an armed robbery that just occurred. The caller reported a 23-24YOA white male reportedly produced a handgun,
pointed the firearm at the clerk’s chest and demanded money. The suspect fled the scene in a stolen dark-colored
Mercedes passenger car with several hundred dollars. Twelve minutes later, the armed robbery suspect was
intercepted by police traveling northbound on I-205. The robbery suspect failed to stop for police and the suspect
eluded officer’s apprehension attempts. The robbery suspect eluded officers for several miles and eventually exited I5 toward the City of Battle Ground, Washington where assisting officers successfully deployed spike strips to
immobilize the vehicle. The robbery suspect then exited the vehicle and fled on foot to avoid apprehension.
As assisting officers established containment, a resident in the Battle Ground area called 911 reporting a lone male,
coincidentally matching the description of the robbery suspect, was pounding on their front door asking for assistance
because he had just been involved in a collision. The female caller told emergency dispatch her husband was an armed
off-duty Vancouver Police Officer and had exited their residence onto the driveway in front of their home in an
attempt to detain the suspect for responding officers. The suspect then became aggressive and engaged in a physical
fight with the off-duty officer while the female caller was still on the phone with emergency dispatch.
The off-duty officer lost control of his firearm and suffered several stab wounds during the struggle with the suspect.
The suspect broke free from the struggle and ran toward the officer’s residence which was occupied by the officer’s
wife, who was still on the phone with emergency dispatch.
The off-duty officer was able to recover his firearm that he lost control of during the struggle then ran after the
suspect who was attempting to enter his home while still in possession of the instrument used to stab him. Within
seconds of responding law enforcement officers arriving on scene, one Clark County Deputy Sheriff fired several
rounds from a rifle striking the off-duty officer.
The off-duty officer/homeowner collapsed on his front porch before responding officers were able to determine he
was the homeowner and not the alleged robbery suspect. The suspect surrendered to police moments later and was
taken into custody without incident. Officers attempted to provide emergency trauma care to the off-duty officer, but
they were unable to stabilize him.
The deceased off-duty Vancouver Police Officer has been identified as 52YOA Donald Sahota.

I am no Seal but am a gunsmith. I agree with your 5 gun arsenal. If I was the last guy on the planet and could only have one gun it would be a Ruger stainless M77 Mark II all weather in 30-06 with sights. Preferably the model with the skeletonised synthetic stock also known as the canoe paddle. I would want a scope preferably a Leupold 3-9x40 scope. If the scope fails I can remove the scope with a pocket knife and go back to open sights. The Ruger has the least moving parts and all those parts are very robust. The firing pin can be removed with anything that will fit through the hole above the sear on the bolt. Even a piece of beach grass or small twig. The rings are bomb proof as well as being quick detachable in case the scope went out of service. A Leupold 3-9 would allow me to engage game out to 500 yards. My one gun arsenal for wilderness survival. The 30-06 has the power and ammo available that is suitable for small varmints to elephants. The only thing it really needs to prepare it is the rings lapped straight and round. For me I would give it a 2 pound trigger job but it is still very usable as it comes out of the box.

He gave one of the primary reasons, which is ammunuion affordability. You can get decent quality 9mm for as low as 25 cents a round, whereas decent 556 ammo would cost 3 times as much.
Also if your primary weapon (rifle) goes down, you're not sitting there with a bunch of ammo you can't use.

Due to their simple nature, single shot shotguns are very easy to maintain and transport. Adaptors come in rimfire, pistol, rifle and can even convert it to a muzzleloader. My H&R 12 gauge can shoot 12 different calibers and all the adapters fit in a shell carrier on the stock. As for accuracy, you can hold a 5 inch pattern at 50 yards, so while not great is good enough to take game or defend yourself. Also shotgun cartridges are the only round that can be reloaded without any equipment.
