My grandmother used to say Khukuris were precious like jewelry. You had to have one hundreds of years ago. Young Nepalese used to leave their homes and cross mountains and jungles with just a khukuri for better future. They would go wherever the path lead them. There were no roads back then. One khukuri could do multiple tasks like cutting trees, animals, building homes, fighting, etc. Jai Nepal 🇳🇵

I have a kuhkri that my grand uncle obtained when he served in India sometime around the 1890s or so. He gave it to his sister, my grandmother when she came to Canada around 1907. She gave it to my father and he gave it to me. It is a fine hand forged weapon with some engraving along the blade. I would really like to find out how old it is.

I discovered the kukri by chance and I fell in love with it, this also introduced me to the history of Nepal. The first kukri I bought (I have 6 at home) is a 30cm 3 chirra. The first time I used it, I had to kick it off the wood because I couldn't do it by hand. With a kukri you can split wood like with hatchets. Their shape is hypnotic to me

The curve of the blade is most important. It has more of a slicing effect rather than cutting by sheer brute force. Anything that comes across the top or mid part of a swinging blade therefore will be sliced in half. Very close to the French guillotine blade but more effective and mobile weapon.

Khukuri is very deadly. Really different than other baldes. The wound made by khukuri is freaking painful

She knows her stuff about khukuris. The only thing I disagreed with was about how the notch (Cho) prevents blood from getting on the handle. I feel like that is just something she's taught to say to foreigners in order to sell khukuris. But everything else she spoke about with how they decapitate goats with one swift chop or them being used in the world wars is all true. Thanks for sharing this video.
