My papillon puppy is 11 now but I remember well the puppy days. After having had a senior dog for the last 4 years, it seemed like never ending work. But eventually, they potty train, you learn what they need you fall into a routine of sorts, and everything works out beautifully. But yes get ready for a lot of work. And get ready to be more active. Papillon puppies need a lot of exercise. If you don’t work them out everyday, they will drive you crazy. The great thing, is they love to play, most are obsessed with toys, so going outside for an hour of fetch is a great way to tire them out.

      😊Hi Maryann,
My sweet Papillon, Miss Coco, crossed the Rainbow Bridge in January on her 15th birthday. She was with me since she was about 8 weeks old. I am lost without her. I have contacted several AKC breeders of Merit in an attempt to purchase a puppy from one of their litters. They don’t seem interested in selling you a dog unless you are interested in showing professionally. If you know of any quality breeders who are willing to sell one of their beautiful puppies, please let me know. I would be interested in Agility work. Yes, they are expensive dogs, but they are intelligent, loving, loyal, playful, and amazing companions.

If you can train them to ‘speak’, it’s easier for them to learn to be quiet. Ziggy really hated to ‘speak’ to get a treat, so he would kinda growl-talk. Barking was still a struggle at times.

My little Juju papillon does not bark. He is a wonderful therapy dog for autistic children. I do not crate. He just comes and politely stares at me at 6 am on the dot then gently puts a little paw in my shoulder. He fetches my paper, keys , keys. Whatever. He has learned to close doors.

I just got my first Papillon - I've wanted one for a while and your videos were a large part in convincing me I did. He's 7 weeks old and I've had him 2 days. Such an amazing dog. Already playing fetch and we're starting on a routine for him to let me know when he wants to go outside to pee/poo.
On the lack of sleep thing though - I was worried about this too - but I've had him in his dog bed, ON my bed, during the night and we slept all the way through last night without any issues. I think him just knowing I was there was enough for him.
Thankyou for your amazing videos about this amazing breed :)

He's my little best friend, and wins the hearts of everyone that he meets with his happiness.

Learn why and the diffrent barks then try things like ask them to come to you when baking at something then give treats. And keep what strwss them low. My girl got the high pitch and I unfortuantly had a city life situation with an other terrified rescue who gave less training time to her so we are a little back to get her attention in those situations and calm her. But those things work.

That’s so funny. Our little Pippy (RIP) used to start scratching on my side of the bed anywhere from 4:30-5:30 like clockwork. Every morning. I found I could get up, go kick back in my recliner and she was perfectly content with that, hop up, curl up between my knees and be totally content. We’d sleep till I decided to get up around 8:00. Apparently she just wanted some “daddy” time,,,,,,,,,,,,,every single morning. And as soon as you allow this it quickly becomes routine.

@@prettygirlslovetohustle824 I don’t have any clue what’s going on with that huge (but adorable) Papillon. When she got him he looked more like a Corgi puppy. But I doubt she would get a mutt or one of those “designer” mutts. When people adopt a Papillon they tend to stick with Papillons. They’re the smartest of the toys breeds, 7th over all. And they don’t stink! I got a male Papillon puppy (my fourth over the last 20 years) at the same time. He even has the same colors, and he was a FOURTH or Atlas’s size. Like two pounds. He’s five months old and he’s NOW about the size of Atlas when she brought him hom. And he’s normal size not a teacup.

Hi Person Friend of Percy & Atlas! Was so kind of you to make this for any kind of dog owner that needed to & hope they listened to the video. My comment on barking some may not like but we know they can bark at the craziest thing for us but not for them. It looked like Percy with his tongue out & barking in his way of playing. When I took my papillon to puppy school we're to get to their height(ha-ha!) & look them in their eyes & say "No Bark." If you use more words they will not understand. Papillons are very intelligent dogs. Ever heard of a "Tired puppy is really the owners happy moment?" Nothing wrong with letting your puppy run, run, run!!! Play, play, play. Walk, walk, walk.... Even in rain & snow. Never hurt mine & tired mine out..😁. Totally agree of never leaving puppies or dogs alone to long. Though their not human their like us. Need to go to the bathroom, & get out of their crate to exercise! Even when I'm home where the crate is he goes in it. Puppies love to pick up anything in their mouths so do be a clean housekeeper or you will pay extra at the vets....ouch!!! You have to be active so your puppy can be active. First couple of yrs or even longer when their expiring the "beach" - right Percy? Dogs are spook different then cats in this way. Percy.....I sure love you & your brother. Enjoy each other & don't get in your Human Friends nerves......😁💕💕

Nice 😀 video and cool to see how others deal with Butterflydog puppies..
To have puppy does not mean sleepless nights. We raised our Papillon without any problem, let it sleep and in a quiet household So the puppy gets enough rest.
Than the barking.. If you don’t want them to bark they need to be tought first what “quiet” is. There are a lot of tricks & tips to teach this.
I think it takes months before they understand words, let alone commands
Unwanted behaviour shouldn’t get attention in anyway
Prices here in Netherlands are €500 - €€€ up
But ofcourse there are shelters and FB pages for Papillons

Papillons in Australia cost between $AU3,000 to $AU 4,000 (pet only) from AKC Registered Breeders. Show Quality for Breeding costs a lot more…I always do a lot of Research & prefer Breeders who also buy Dogs from overseas to keep a Fresh healthier Gene Pool. Europe has some of the best quality Papillons… this is where the Breed originated. My Pap’s Father is a Grand Champion from Sweden..he was purchased by a Breeder in Australia…it cost a huge amount of money with Quarantine/Vet Bills to bring Dogs into Australia…..only dedicated Breeders do this…my Pom’s Father is from Italy & my Chi’s Father is from an area close to Chicago. The Father’s have all been Grand Champions….not all offspring become Champions like their Parents…luck & understanding Genes is so important when breeding any Animal…it is a Science…if you want to purchase from a Breeder who knows what they are doing…& have been breeding & showing their dogs for a long time. I always visit Shows…speak with the Breeders & watch how they interact with their Show Dogs….sadly there is Breeders who come across as caring …it is all about money $$$.
