  • Section 21 of the Indian Evidence Act 1872 is about ‘Proof of admissions against persons making them, and by or on their behalf’. It is under ‘ADMISSIONS’ of Chapter II of the Act. The general rule is that admissions cannot be proved by, or on behalf of, the person who makes them, because a person will always naturally make statements that are favourable to him. To this principle, three exceptions are laid down in Section 21 of the Indian Evidence Act.
This video from Legal Bites Academy explains Section 21 of the Indian Evidence Act. The provision relates to the circumstances when a favourable admission can be admissible. The provision is discussed by Pankaj Sinhmar with the aim to provide conceptual clarity with the help of illustrations.
