How To Make an Off Shoulder Top Easy! | Sewing Projects for Beginners

- My love of off the shoulder shirts continues in my latest DIY sewing tutorial! In this video I’ll be teaching you how to make an off shoulder shirt from scratch without a pattern. This DIY off shoulder top is very easy to make (it’s made of only 3 rectangles and some elastic) so this is one of my favorite sewing projects for beginners wanting to learn how to make clothes!
This off shoulder top is fun and different from my other off shoulder shirt tutorials because it has fun tie straps that can be tied into knots or bows, so you can change up the style depending on your mood. Or, if you just want a simple strapless top, you could skip the ties altogether and make an easy strapless top!

MATERIALS NEEDED:
1-2 yards of a lightweight non-stretch fabric | I used about 1.5 yards of a light, slightly silky feeling fabric that was about 42” wide
½ inch wide elastics: enough to be able to wrap around your chest - I got mine from Dollar General in a 3 pack of different sizes

WHAT YOU’LL LEARN:
In this easy sewing tutorial for beginners, you’ll learn all the steps for cutting and stitching an off the shoulder top. I’ll show you how to measure the length and width for the bodice and tie straps, how to sew the pieces together, how to prevent fabric from fraying by using pinking shears, how to make an elastic casing, how to create a gathered top edge so the top is super flowy, how to hem the raw edges, and how to sew the ties on for a finished top. Skip the off the shoulder tie sleeves and you could use the steps in this tutorial to learn how to make a strapless top, too!
