Alone in the dark was a jem of a nightmare for 8 year old me. Jack Palance horrified me for years. I kept waiting for him to kill the whole group in City Slickers.
On man...Night Beast !...the trouble I got into for renting that out of my local videostore. Ended up having to write a 10 page essay on the ills of video nasties. The repercussions were more terrifying than the movie, which I still have never seen!😧👽🎬📺📼
I cannot imagine seeing through my twin's eyes, even in my dreams. I can only handle him pushing pull doors so often when I'm dealing with him from the OUTSIDE
If I remember House on Sorority Row, there is a live rock band playing in one part of the house, while in another part, the killer stalks a girl and it is totally silent! How big is this sorority house?!?
The first 80s horror movie directed by a woman was Humanoids of the Deep (1980). I remember because everyone who covers it spends a lot of time telling you Barbara Peeters was a woman.
Wait....Jack Palance, Skeletor? If that is a reference to the live action 80s film of Masters of the Universe, the role of Skeletor was played by Frank Langella.
Omg I watched Time Walker when I was a kid and have been trying to explain it to people since trying to find it. I was beginning to thank I made it up. Thank you kind sir.
I know two things about Time Walker: 1, its video cover looked nothing like a horror movie and 2 Leonard Maltin's review of it, in its entirety, was "low budget junk."
Hooray! I’ve been impatiently awaiting House on Sorority Row, which for some reason was my Rocky Horror of the early ‘80s and friends and I would watch it over and over and speak all the lines while drinking Bartles & Jaymes wine coolers…with our big hair. I have this poster framed in my office, next to “Curtains” from 1983 and I’m eagerly looking forward to you covering that. Great work! Love this project! Thanks for all your effort.
BRIMSTONE AND TREACLE has a pretty big cultural significance, has M artin inspired the creation of John Constantine... A fact that I had confirmed then I interviewed Alan Moore about the character in the 80's. It was also a sequel written by Potter and directed by Nicholas Roeg called COLD HEAVEN in the 90s, with Gary oldman playing Martin.
Wow, I grow up watching most of these movies, but White Dog has a special place in my heart, as I watched the film on TV one afternoon at my late grandmother's house eating cookies, and we had a blast with it... Great times.
When the Masters of the Universe movie came out, there was a common joke about how the makeup just looked like Jack Palance without a nose. Probably a deep cut joke.
House on Sorority Row is also known to soap opera fans as it stars Ashley from Y&R. But remembered even better for this clip. 🤣 czcams.com/video/YeZOjz2qKFc/video.htmlsi=QlxKFGe8ujC75Hjt
I'm loving these vids. Great selection of movies and I like the references to other movie characters. EDIT: At 22:27 you can see the years 1875 to 1947 on the wall. That's Aleister Crowley's lifespan.
At a press conference b4 the film opened, reporters asked M. Streep what role she played. She divulged that she was the killer! So they had to reshoot the movie for a different ending. (Source: Fangoria)
I love any excuse to talk about Sam Fuller, and White Dog is a good example! Fuller is such an interesting filmmaker, he experienced so much action in his own life, first being a news paper reporter, and then being a part of the Big Red One during WW2, he was so good at putting action on the screen. His films were also progressive in someways, featuring people of color in prominent roles, as well as attempts to confront racist ideologies in the US. More people should experience the films of Sam Fuller!
Of this group the only two I know of is the house on Sorority row and Slumber Party Massacre. I like them both I would say the one I remember the most is Slumber Party Massacre though.
re: House on Sorority Row: That band is called 4 Out of 5 Doctors. They made two albums in the early 80s but never had much success. I discovered them through this movie and was quite impressed with their music. They are actually very Devo-ish sounding so it's a little surprising that they never made a breakthrough. The song Josh clipped is called Waiting for the Change, although the lyrics in the clip are not on the studio version. My personal favorite of theirs is called Modern Man, which is also in the movie (Why didn't you clip that one, Josh?) czcams.com/video/M7Hu2XCg4Y0/video.html
I know that Jason, Michael and Freddy are the unholy trinity of '80s slashers but Russ Thorn might be my favourite. Or maybe Hockstetter. Wait... they're the same guy. Thorn Vs Hockstetter when?
Alone in the Dark is homaged in Stranger Things (Netflix) b/c every time the girl uses her power her nose bleeds. It was also homaged in Valentine. Cool, no?
Nightbeast slumber party massacre and The house on sorority row thank you the perfect movies to watch on a Friday or Saturday night armed with a pizza 🍕🍕 with everything
I feel bad for that dog. It's gorgeous. When it started attacking people I thought at first it just attacked men because it associated men with violence and was protective of the woman who took care of it
House on Sorority Row is super fun but a little too long. I think if 10 minutes were cut from the film it would be near perfect for a fun slasher. Too bad the house mothers voice was dubbed over. It is pretty distracting. Still a great movie
Joe Grifasi...IE the Bank Guard. Best role was as "Foreman" in The Naked Gun... I thought i knew him from something. :) And i agree that White Dog is the best film on the list. But im not 100% its horror. Do like Sam Fuller's work.
I’m really surprised by how many times Harry Potter Sr has shown up in the 80’s Project
Salivating over the thought of a 70's Project
Same
I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but The Poster for Blood Link (4:47) looks really Similar to the New York Ripper Poster.
I will watch ANYTHING Moriarty is in.
Alone in the dark was a jem of a nightmare for 8 year old me. Jack Palance horrified me for years. I kept waiting for him to kill the whole group in City Slickers.
Good week, bad week, overwhelming week, no matter the week it's always a relief seeing the new 80's Project video was posted when Friday comes around.
Perfect way to put it
Whoa! Whoa! What’s an 80s Scream Queen list without Barbara Crampton!
WE WANT A 70's PROJECT...
😉😉😜
White Dog has a twist ending that's probably the only way the film could've concluded.
On man...Night Beast !...the trouble I got into for renting that out of my local videostore. Ended up having to write a 10 page essay on the ills of video nasties. The repercussions were more terrifying than the movie, which I still have never seen!😧👽🎬📺📼

Barbara Peeters directed Humanoids From the Deep -- but you still gotta love Corman productions
Simon and Simon were not brothers in real life, only on television
-Eric Cartman
The first 80s horror movie directed by a woman was Humanoids of the Deep (1980). I remember because everyone who covers it spends a lot of time telling you Barbara Peeters was a woman.
I've seen White Dog. I guess it marginally belongs to the horror genre, but it's really a borderline case. I'd rather describe it as a drama.
Or a thriller
I LOVE The House on Sorority Row!!!! It's my favorite 80s slasher.
The best show on the web! Thanks Josh Spiegel
Wait....Jack Palance, Skeletor? If that is a reference to the live action 80s film of Masters of the Universe, the role of Skeletor was played by Frank Langella.

Love these!!! Thank you!
Good Job Josh.....been anxiously awaiting this one.

I love Slumber Party Massacre. I watch it every Christmas. Absolutely love this project. Look forward to every new one.

Wow! A video that gives Alone in the Dark, White Dog and The Deadly Spawn a mention, 3 of my fave 80's horror flicks, good show! :)
Love it. Hope everything is going well with the new job
Wow, I grow up watching most of these movies, but White Dog has a special place in my heart, as I watched the film on TV one afternoon at my late grandmother's house eating cookies, and we had a blast with it... Great times.
That guy who played Sting is named Gordon something
Sumner
You didn't mention IMO, the crown jewel of the Don Dohler films, Galaxy Invader.
Jack Palance as Skeletor? What am I missing?
Came here to look for this. I think he was confused with Frank Langella?
Perhaps Josh is confusing him with Frank Langella., who played Skeletor in the live-action Masters of the Universe?
@@iconocrat To be fair, the makeup does look a little like Jack Palance lol
When the Masters of the Universe movie came out, there was a common joke about how the makeup just looked like Jack Palance without a nose. Probably a deep cut joke.
@@movietimelines Ah makes sense. He really does look like him in that makeup

I have only seen the Sorority Row remake and it is an absolute treasure. However I love the box art for the original
Keir Dullea is actually pronounced Care Doolay. But, awesome vid as always, bro! This is what I'm here for.

1982 was a great year. I was there.
This is the first time I've heard of White Dog, and feel cheated by the fact
Fun fact...the Mayor in Nightbeast is played by Dick Dyszel aka DC area horror host Count Gore de Vol!
When you getting to the Sci-fi 80’s project
I saw Jason actor Warrington Gillette in the Time Walker clip
That’s Jack Palance in Alone in the Dark, not Frank “Skeletor” Langella
what a pleasant surprise to come home to on a Friday night.
Was the first film before slumber party massacre humanoids from the deep?
Or that thanksgiving-themed slasher back in 80?
@@wratched Yes. Home Sweet Home in `81. The Velvet Vampire was directed by a woman in 1971.
I heard 'blood on the dance floor' and my face was 😳
"A band that is quintessentially 80s." Yeah. No idea who Tish and Snooky are, eh?
"Being from another planet, I didn't really have anything to do with this film." -Tom Servo
I think all of the Slumberparty Massacres are great, but for each movie it’s a very different reason for why it’s great
I know that Jason, Michael and Freddy are the unholy trinity of '80s slashers but Russ Thorn might be my favourite. Or maybe Hockstetter. Wait... they're the same guy. Thorn Vs Hockstetter when?

Hey josh hows the job going, thanks for giving us good content still, oh and 1st i guess
That's A.J., Rick's brother A.J. :)
White dog was great
I maintain Slumber Party Massacre is the best slasher movie ever made
23:34 2600 Space Invaders!
Why did Josh calll Jack Palance - Skeletor? Frank Langella played Skeletor, didn't he?
12:20 I love that dumb musical.

Yes!
20:19 Gordon Sumner aka Sting originally from the UK rock band The Police, known for Every Breath You Take (dam creepy song).
Blood link gotta stacked gal
I have Night Beast on Bluray
I've seen it
When did Jack Palance play Skeletor?
He must be getting him confused with Frank Langella.
When the Masters of the Universe movie was released, there were a lot of comments about how much Skeletor just looked like “jack palance with leprosy”
Did he skip A Stranger Is Watching? I can't find it
i did miss it initially, but it's included in the next episode, along with one other film i missed earlier.
17:18 Frank Langella was Skeletor, not Jack Palance.
Nice
House on Sorority Row is super fun but a little too long. I think if 10 minutes were cut from the film it would be near perfect for a fun slasher. Too bad the house mothers voice was dubbed over. It is pretty distracting. Still a great movie
did home sweet home have a female director?
❤❤❤
Might i suggest a gore rating & a boob count for each film!!
Joe Grifasi...IE the Bank Guard. Best role was as "Foreman" in The Naked Gun... I thought i knew him from something. :)

yeeeeeeeees! was waitin for this upload! And I'm the 74th like! my birth year! LOL (don't give that look it's funny to me LOL)
HMMMM....never knew White Dog was considered to be a horror movie...interesting.
First!
'82 Was a real gem of the decade, can't wait what"s left for December 🫡✌️
Great vid as always..you have been crowned the horror encyclopedia 🫡
Drawing of the woman in the thumbnail looks a lot like Taylor Swift🤔
