    I find it easier to throw 700'+ when I get the car up to 80mph before I chuck the disc out the window

      @deadlyvenom9069 Před 2 lety +4

      Actually. Thank you so much for this comment. This made it super easy to visualize what makes a disc go. Bcs i thought, if i just release the disc from a car at only 80mph is it rly gonna go 650+? It isnt. Not without spin.

    • @robertjones1730
      @robertjones1730 Před 2 lety +9

      @@deadlyvenom9069 I like looking at the math of it, the disc doesn't know about your hips or runup, it's gonna fly 600' if it leaves your hand going a certain direction, at a certain speed, with a certain amount of spin, how you achieve that varies from person to person. If the disc has to leave you r hand at 75mph, it has to accelerate from zero to 75. Accelerating a 170 gram disc from zero to 75 in 1 foot would require huge amounts of energy. We have a maximum distance we can perform this acceleration from a full reachback to full forward release, those with shorter arms have to have stronger core muscles. There are so many elements of a throw that all have to be timed right to build on each other's energy input, then you get it all perfect and you turn your disc over into the ground because you never threw it that hard before! I love disc golf.

    Kiekko lähtee kyllä aivan järkyttävällä nopeudella ja kova spin auttaa tietysti mittaan isosti, kun kiekko pitää asentonsa pitkään. Hyvin palastelit heittosi. Helppo tajuta mistä on kyse, toistaminen onkin sitten vähän hankalampaa. Alhaalta ylös, eli ruutia jaloista ja kyynärpää ulos spinin parantamiseksi pitää ottaa reeniin. Kerrassaan mainio video, kiitos! 👍

    At the end of my run-up I have noticed the motion of pushing my heel into the ground engages my hips. I just have to continue the motion and incorporate my core. The heel push corrects a ton of aiming issues; early releases, late releases, and mediocre controllable distances. Also have learned relaxing my throwing arm and just keeping it on a plane is all I have to do. Allowing my body to attack angles. Try doing a regular throwing motion--In your room, or with a disc-- using your normal routine. FOCUS on how fast your arm whips. Now, try the same thing and focus on pushing your lead heel into the ground at the end of your run-up. Feel the acceleration difference.

    Great tips. I've had trouble with "collapsing" the power pocket and rounding because my body is in the way, and the tip about trying to keep your hand on the outside of the disc and keeping your elbow out are money. It makes it so I don't have to think about trying to get into the power pocket position, which is basically impossible. I just think keep my hand on the outside of the disc as long as possible and keep my elbow out, and I naturally have more space for the disc and get way more spin and snap. Still takes practice though.

      @mr.wizeguy8995 Před 2 lety +1

      Only if you want to throw over 700 ft. With fast run up you only increase disc speed few miles and much more likely mess up timing and everything else and get less distance. Take a look this video czcams.com/video/Fwj7B3jGwUU/video.html they throw same speed but with better technique Simon still threw much further.

  • @mr.wizeguy8995
    @mr.wizeguy8995 Před 2 lety +5

    I have wondered that if two person 20 year old and 40 year old throws with same technique how much shorter is that older person throw. Meaning that older guy isn't that agile and quick any more so how much that will affect.

    • @kimmomatikainen1843
      @kimmomatikainen1843 Před 2 lety +1

      Age isn't everything. If you take former javelin thrower Tero Pitkämäki (who plays disc golf as a hobby) and non-athletic 20-year-old, I would say that Tero throw farther.
      I know a lot of 20-year-old people who far from agile and I also know people in 40s and even 50s who are agile. Not as quick as they were 20 years ago, but quicker than many 20-year-old people.
      And some people are in the best shape in their life when they are 40. Never done any exercise and being overweight until 30-35 and found sports, gym, healthy food etc. after that. They would probably throw farther at 40 than at the age of 20.
      I get your point, but it is not that simple. I think you know that as well. Your writings are and have been pretty good. I think this is something that no one knows. Would have to be the same height, same physique etc. so basically the same person 20 years ago and now.
      E.g. JohnE McCray said last year that he is throwing now farther than ever. I am pretty sure his form has improved. That is an interesting question though and of course throws will get shorter if only age changes.I have thrown about 20 years and I have lost about 20% from max distance in that time.

    • @mr.wizeguy8995
      @mr.wizeguy8995 Před 2 lety

      I could have been more specific about comparison but i just meant if age is only variable then throwing distance is somewhat shorter older you get but ofc it varies because every person is different.

    • @Spartacus11
      @Spartacus11 Před 2 lety

      @@mr.wizeguy8995 Release speed matters of course, and young men will generally have more explosiveness compared to older guys. But technique does matter more, I for one have quite a lot of power but when I was starting out I could rip the disc as hard as I wanted and I was only getting 300ft out of it. Now I'm at 450ft and my form certainly isn't perfect. It's all about rotational energy and shifting your momentum throughout the throwing motion and if you have that nailed you can get good distance even without a really fast arm. And obviously knowing your disc and releasing it on the right angle as well..
      But yes you are correct in saying that older people generally have less explosive speed and once your muscles wear down and you before stiff your motion is not as fluid. That's why you really don't want to be stiff, and some of the furthest throwing guys are pretty lanky with long arms, showing that muscles really don't matter. Emerson Keith is a tiny guy and very skinny yet he throws 500+.

    It's really the more subtle things that get people to the upper distance levels. I throw with the same power and effort as him but to reach 475. I keep finding new things all the time but as im nearing 40 it isn't getting any easier.
