The Pokemon Card Market has been an absolute mess over the past few months. Pokemon Booster Boxes from the Sword and Shield Era have exploded in price after going out of stock on the Pokemon Center website. Special Illustration Rares, Alternate Arts, and even Trainer Gallery Cards have fallen victim to buyouts and market manipulation resulting in increased prices and an upheaval of anger from the Pokemon community.
However, this anger and frustration may be short lived. After sudden increases in prices throughout May, many Pokemon Card have retraced and lost over half of the value they gained. Is this the beginning of a giant Pokemon Card Retrace? Will Pokemon Card prices fall even further? Let's talk about it!

Yeah, I've noticed prices dropping a good little bit recently on my collection.
That was interesting. I forgot all about that Jirachi. I collected all different versions.
I wanted to get a card signed by you at card party I seen you in the main lobby at the end of the first night n as I was walking up I seen your kids run up to you really excited and wanting hugs.. lol I just kept it pushing I didn’t wanna interrupt that moment for you
lol! You definitely could have interrupted, but I really appreciate you. They are great
@@DannyPhantump it’s all good I’ll catch you at the next one.. don’t know which one I wanna go to just yet I like Florida cause I have friends I visit while I’m down there but I never been to the west coast.. decisions decisions lol
Haha that was literally my experience too. Which I didn't know he even had kids so assumed it was fans but could tell quickly by the way they were talking to each other etc. It was his family so like you, didn't want to bother him lol but you always assume you'll have another chance but that was not the case most the time
@@poke_hoard422 lol yeah they ran up yelling daddy and started reaching for hugs.. it was a wholesome moment to witness.. that event was stressful for me and all I had to do was walk around and look at cards so I can’t imagine the stress he was feeling and the look on his face when they ran up I could tell he was waiting for that moment all day.. thought I would catch him again but nope lol
Danny is goated!
Buy low sell high, this is completely normal and healthy movement in the market. It’ll happen again time after time evern these cards will go back up then drop a little. Rinse and repeat
Saw this coming from a mile away. Hope that not that many people wasted their money..
KEEP DROPPING GIRATINA AND DON'T STOP!!!!!!!
I need to focus on my collection for what i like, not for value, not to be cool and the most important not perfect collections with all just the reverse of pokemon i like.
2 data points for anyone who jumped in more recently: 1. Machamp alt was $60 on release but was bought out within 2 days and relisted at $80-90 and never came back. 2. Aerodactyl v was $80 on release but when Rev did his opening to complete the set, he couldn’t find that one card forever and the price jumped that night to $120.
The exact same thing happened with Lorcana right before Sword & shield alts. I tried to warn my friends that it was just some sketchy TCG buyouts that caused this, same as with Lorcana. Though the sword & shield alts probably won’t all settle back down now that the booster boxes for these sets are out of stock on Pokemon center.
Can't really compare Disney characters to Pokemon cards. Pokemon is in such a different level not a very smart thing to compare them
@@nicksaylor3288 I think he's just talking about market manipulation seems like a totally valid point to me. Doesn't matter if its MTG One Piece whatever these things happen on TCGPlayer
@@nicksaylor3288 absolutely agree that they don’t compare on a tcg level, but it’s foolish to think that the strange buyouts on tcg in the last 6 months aren’t being done by the same groups. Suspiciously, Lorcana experienced buyouts which caused $300 to become $800 cards, and on a similar timeframe dropped close or to the initial value. The sword & shield alts from Pokémon up to this point have shown the exact same trend as far as their rise and drop in values after buyouts and in the same timeframe. The only difference lately is that Pokemon booster boxes have sold out on Pokemon center, so the prices likely won’t drop to initial values
Loved the content as always. Even with the price hikes, I still like seeing the cards have not lost all the value they have gained. That shows the health of the hobby I feel.
If you see this, please send positive vibes my way. I’ve been struggling with health issues for years and could use your prayers.
solid info. thank you for sharing
Swsh alt art looks like it dropped a little but imo it will not drop back to when it was in march-april. Was gonna pick up leafeon and glaceon vmax alt art around $150-170 but decided not to, then it crept up and then shot right up to $300+ atm lol.
glad to know that market evens out
Danny, you are absolutely awesome! My son kept trying to add you as a friend on Pokemon go at Card Party 2, and he noticed yesterday that you sent him and my daughter friend requests. I just want to say thank you for doing that. The fact that you didn't forget about them or blow it off really speaks volumes about your character and how much you really care about your fans.
Props to have the persistence to open shop and start a channel after selling your collections twice! 💪🏼
dang, wish I had of unloaded a few of my doubles like the garchomp while they were high!
Whats the rise without the drop. 🎉
Amen...............Amen 🙏
It's summer time... everything is going to drop a bit until the fall.
Just picked up the Giratina V a month ago for 225 from a card shop that was mainly sports , got extremely lucky, traded for it
happens every year
Yeah, because whoever was responsible for the rise, already cashed out.
Who's to say it wasn't TCG Player themselves, who probably have shady inside business practices. You'd be surprised!
As ALWAYS, THANKS for the video Danny🐐!!! 😎👍✌️
And in 2 weeks we'll be in huge surge in prices... Again..
Patience is key
That time again. Pokemon summer slump. Lot of drops but hold and it'll return.
Maybe I can complete my master sets!!!😊
Just pulled earthern vessel 5 minutes ago. I’m rich! lol
same video but can you make those cars in japanese prices? thx
As soon as Giratina gets back down to $299 I will buy. That said...it might never do that LOL
I’ll go ahead and buy a few right now, then it should tank for ya, typically how it goes🙃
Patience and dont panic
Crazy that an alt art is less than 5 and never hit double digit numbers
It’s the only alt art i’ve pulled from Fusion Strike too 😢
silver tempest god packs are pokemons secret resolution to the fusion strike hits being stolen and 'not affecting pull rates' which they new was a lie.
Great if prices drop
Just bought the Mew V for 15€ today 😊
So buy singles when the market isn’t being bought out by GameStop
Greninja retrace will leave many happy and many sad
Everyone could see this from a mile away
Danny: hoping you can weigh in on this.
We’re seeing these booms all while SwSh is still readily available. We’re seeing ES at around $12 a pack while we’re snatching up Empoleon/Tyranitar tins, and Silver Tempest Alts aren’t going for $5/ea on account of the cracked pack controversy.
I feel like when we compare SwSh to the SM era, we still have 3-6-12 months to go until we see the real/organic boom. No one I know who collects seems have a sense of dread that SwSh is finally disappearing. It still feels very available.
Question is: aren’t these premature spikes a GOOD thing? To me, it seems to be a good thing. If cards were tanking like this when SwSh is nowhere to be found, I’d be more concerned.
As an aside, short of 151 I don’t see SV as being as interesting a cutover as we had between SM > SwSh (less the tag teams which were awesome). In hindsight, I think many will pine over one the best art eras which was SwSh, and that has yet to be reflected.
So, again, aren’t we still many months out from the real boom like we saw with Tag Teams last year?
not everyone has access to and/or their areas have those tins and cracked packs (mine don't unfortunately)
Collectors aren't paying these prices. Its investor bros selling to other investor bros
@@nateloudenbach8040 perhaps to an extent, but I could go on all day referencing local flea markets, FB groups, card stores, etc. I’m a collector and I paid the asking rate for certain Tag Teams during the boom when SM had disappeared from shelves. I don’t see many investor bros at the LCS and flea markets, personally.
The logic is something like this (Giratina V Alt for example, since it applies to me personally): “I still have a chance of pulling Giratina from LO bc I’m not done ripping the set, so I’m not going to buy the single. Oh crap…set can’t be found anymore…better buy the single.” And so the premiums get paid.
While I try to avoid this, I’ve succumbed a number of times, and it also characterizes several of my other collector friends. People trying to catch the ship as it’s leaving the harbor.
Lastly, this is basically how it trended with previous generations. People seem to dismiss sets when they’re here and then suddenly appreciate it more when it’s gone.
Those empoleon tins can also have 5 packs of brilliant stars. I've bought them from the same place and got the brilliant stars one as well as the ones with a couple packs if evolving skies. Lots of tins, including the 2 pack tins, get repacked over the years and you can't be sure sometimes what is in them.
I sold that Umbreon V for 30 dollar before the spike to 49 dollar. Still a decent sell (twice the lowest price) And I agree most of the trainer gallery cards spiked just because the real alt arts got beyond reach of most people. Since you can easily find SWSH boosters nowadays these inflated prices are indeed not sustainable.
While they probably won't fall back to original prices I knew this would happen. You get a few buyouts to manipulate the market to get a all time high then the actual collectors or lovers of the tcg buy lower and see a fall. Look while I appreciate a chase if you're a collector just collect what you love. if you love alts then collect alts. BUT don't expect not to break your wallet especially if you're just jumping on the bandwagon.
The retrace!!! Oh no
That blaziken already isn’t worth shit so sad if it dropped even more.
Patience young padawans😂
Winner winner chicken dinner
All according to plan; gotta be ready to sell around the 30th anniversary. Hopefully the Bubble will balloon In 2026
I will ❤
Poor Sandaconda lol
lol!
Sun and moon alt art promos are the move imo
Such an odd time for the hobby...
In my eyes, if I’m paying less than the price of a pack for a worthwhile card, it’s worth it
Let’s go moonninja🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Danny's the best!
Shrine of president!
where can i find 151? i wanna start working on my collection and i cant find 151 anywhere
*151 is everywhere online and in some stores. Stock is just catching up to demand.*
Target and best buy online have had drops to this day but you have to watch for them and get to them quickly as they will generally sell out within a day
You'll find heaps of it in the basements of men with neck beards
Costco has 151 upcs for 90. Guy above me sounds broke 😂
Could wait for the restock. Prices are still kinda high on some products.
Looks like just about everybody in these comments only care about money and not collecting
Poor sandaconda
Let em crash boys! Let em crash!
Looking for some advice, i pulled an iono secret rare from a promo pack a mate gifted me and i honestly dont care about trainer cards at all really, should i hold onto it or should i sell/trade it asap for an actual pokemon card?
sell it and buy some cards you actually want.
So what does this mean investing wise? Will these continue to crash in your opinion? And is there a chance to rebound a few years out?
Its means stop investing in modern pokemon 😂 this stuff is for kids
Hate to say it but we're in a massive bubble still. Pokemon, as much as I love it will definitely go into another hibernation era like 2002-2015 again. I think that's starting now as people don't have any extra money to spend and we're on the brink of recession and housing bubble popping as well. Truly believe most of these cards will be worth 90-95% under today's value here before long, within a year or so.
95% price correction in 12 months!?
That’s a bold prediction cotton…. Let’s see how it plays out…. That seems pretty extreme… you’re basically predicting the death of Pokémon…. In under 12 months….
I’m gonna respectfully disagree but we shall both see sir !
@TheSnackAttackingSnorlax yeah no chance of that
95 percent is a bit much but i think an easy 50 to 70 percent will happen from where they are now there is so much out there its crazy and ppl dont understand because a lot of them came in during the pandemic and have not been around long enough to know the market once ppl do see most of these cards are no where near as rare as they think its ganna get bad i have been collecting since 2014 and i would tell ppl that have money into sword and shield to sell now at least the singles sealed product is a little different and put money into vintage ex's, gold stars, crystals, and 1st editions
Retrace!
❤
I’ve bought so many rare modern cards for cheap within the first week of set release. I’m swimming in Paldean Magikarps🥰🐟💰💰
I balked at $20 and then watched it go up from there, lol. Good on you for picking them up at what turned out to be rock bottom. It's a beautiful card.
That's typically when they're the highest. Did months at least and the vast majority of them are down 50%>
@@bbq1040 thanks man 😂 it was the one play I made recently that actually worked out really well😂😂
@@IneptCardCollector you would be surprised how inexpensive some of these cards have been the first week of, or the week before the actual release on eBay.
@@katielowen well, no, I'm very aware and stand by my comment which is backed by overwhelming data. What you're talking about is just a hunch and a gamble IMHO
Hi danny
Hi Crawfish!
Happens all the time in summer. Get real people it always happens. Nothing new in the tcg
Explain the random price hike over the last 2 months? These cards will be falling for awhile
The Great Bounce will be next

Not 1st 😢

No Reprint Squad checking in.
Charizard Special Illustration Rare from 151 is at a 3 month high and showing growth.
Are we gonna break last year's all time high?
151 bros, are we winning?
Its wild that people look at pokemon cards like this 😂
@@nateloudenbach8040 thank you

Two words I've never heard affiliated with the pokémon company is cheap and affordable 😅😂❤
😂😂😂 just wait till booster boxes prices start dipping. People are gonna tweek out. Modern pokemon isn't rare at all
lol these things get opened every day. They definitely are rare
@@parkerC1990s yea super rare
No, they're not rare. Just scalpers and "investors"
@@nateloudenbach8040 I mean go look at pokemon sets from 5 years ago…all $1000 and up and used to be at Target like 3 years ago. Youre uninformed 😂🫵
