    Depth reading at speed
    #do-it-yourself
    Installing transducers
    After installing my transducer on my pontoon boat I noticed I wasn't getting a depth reading over 12-15 mph. This video shows how I made some adjustments and now I'm getting readings at all speeds or while sitting still. Easy to do yourself without sending to an expensive shop. You can even use the principles when installing a new transducer. Feel free to ask any questions. Thanks for watching.

    Nice job on the video. First time toon owner here, and defiantly needed this advice to get my transducer setup on my new toon.

    So, after seeing this video and fixing my transducer following these instructions my pontoon now reads at full speed. I have a Lowrance Hook5. I will mention your transducer should be mounted on the driver's side of the pontoon. Problem cured. Thank you

      I finally installed the transducer on my 2021 20' dlx fishing barge today. I also routed the cable up to the floor under the helm, but have not gone through the floor with it yet. I mounted the transducer exactly as you described here, so I am very confident it will work just right. Thanks again for your help.@@freshwaterfiend6268

    Thank you so much for
    the tip. I will try your suggestion since I have the same exact problem. The depth finder on my 22 ft pontoon quits reading at 11 mph. I have a 2017 lowrance hook 4 fish/ depth finder. I will get back to you by next boating season if it solves the problem. My boat stays in the water all season and won’t go back in until next spring. I will make the adjustments then.
    Thanks again.

    Thanks for the transducer tip. I have had the same trouble with with my pontoon boat. Our lake has a very hilly bottom and it drives me nuts to have to run at 9 miles an hour or less to get a reliable reading.

    I run a Lowrance triple shot unit on a stepped hull transom 1991 Javelin 396FS at 65mph and get perfect readings.
    Just like you said, the transducer has to be slightly lower than the bottom of the hull so it gets solid water, no air or bubbles.

      @stsm38 Před 3 lety

      Glad to hear this. I just installed a Lowrance triple shot on my pontoon boat, and lose readings at speed. Going to give this guys instructions a try and see if I can get it dialed in.

    I just bought a Helix 7 to attach to my pontoon boat. My pontoon sits in a boat lift and the cradle that the logs rests on sticks out about a foot behind the logs. A transducer can only mount flush with my logs, not hang down below or the transducer hits the bunk when I drive back on. I haven't installed it yet, Will it work flush along the bottom of my toon?

    Nice review. I am waiting for my 2022 fish’s barge to arrive and am researching fishing setups for it. Are you able to use side imaging with the transducer mounted on the pontoon, or does the motor interfere?

    • @freshwaterfiend6268
      @freshwaterfiend6268  Před rokem

      So far it hasn't interfered unless I'm trying to side scan at higher speeds (+ 5-7 mph). But that's with most side scan units.

    • @freshwaterfiend6268
      @freshwaterfiend6268  Před rokem

      So far so good. Just have to scan at low speeds (below 5-7mph) but im sure thats the case for most units.

    Question I have the same transducer, have you thought about mounting it directly to the bottom of one of your pontoons directly under captains seat?
    Either using an extreme double stick tape, or scuffing up the aluminum and using JB weld.

    • @freshwaterfiend6268
      @freshwaterfiend6268  Před 3 lety +1

      No mainly because we go to a few sandbars that I've actually drug bottom a few times. Never been stuck but definitely would ruin anything on pontoons. Plus I trailer mine everytime so I doubt it would last long.

    Where does the maker of this video usually run his boat, I.e. ocean, costal bays, rivers, lakes or ponds???
    Thanks.

  • @Booboosik
    @Booboosik Před 2 lety +3

    You need to drop it down another half an inch. You are measuring incorrectly. The conical part of the transducer should be below the boat bottom, not just the tip like you have. And get a metal mount, that plastic is not good for speed as it bends with force.

    • @freshwaterfiend6268
      @freshwaterfiend6268  Před rokem +1

      I've since swapped to metal after my sons friend used the transducer as a step to get into the boat while it was trailered 🤷🏻‍♂️. But i had it lower ay one point and it was throwing up a rooster tail that would spray the motor the entire time you were running. I've checked the readings a few times and so far readings seem to be accurate.

  • @glennm4907
    @glennm4907 Před rokem

    Great until you hit a piece of drift wood and it ruins your transducer

    • @freshwaterfiend6268
      @freshwaterfiend6268  Před rokem

      Well I've hit several so far, including an 8ft 4x4 with SS grab rail still attached that came loose from a dock along the river. So far so good but anything with the right situation can be damaged. On a pontoon a Thru-Hull isn't an option.
      So to get the best experience out of my equipment this is the option that works for me. If it doesn't work for you, then by all means go a different route. Thanks for the view and the comment non the less. Just trying to help other Coullions like me. 😎
