I find it pretty interesting that everyone had all these theories about Noelle's family and it just turned out this Ost was for a really sweet moment between Noelle and Susie.
Toby's said this theme would play throughout, as would different versions of leitmotifs of it. A darker, bleaker version plays when Noelle is thinking about what 'happened' in the hospital after the Snowgrave route.

I don't see many people pointing out Queen mentioning Noelle's "strange and sad searches". It just makes me feel teary eyed whenever I remember that all Queen wanted to do was make people, including Noelle, happy. She gave her her own room, with everything that she wanted in her searches. She was more of a mother to her than her own mother was.
noelle reminds me a lot of my daughter, who was born just a little over two months after deltarune's release and surprisingly ended up being unintentionally named noel (although with different spelling) too! she'll be turning three this year and she is already so kind and loving. i often play video game soundtracks to help soothe her and she likes the undertale and deltarune ones very much. i'm a teen mother, i had her very young unwillingly, but as the years have carried on i do not regret her whatsoever. i like to consider this song her theme, noelle her character. i've grown up with undertale and deltarune, and i hope she can grow up with these wonderful characters too.
I wish you and your daughter a wonderful life. She sounds very adorable. I hope you have fortune in the future - your situation is very tragic, from the little you've said, and I wish you nothing but kind regards. I believe you'll raise her well. After all, you've picked a beautiful name for her.

This is still Noelle's theme btw. It being repeatedly used doesn't mean its not Noelle's theme. Symbolically the second part of this piece with the ping-pong-like melody seems to be her main motif, as heard in Girl Next Door, so the former might just symbolize being lost in general, which is probably what's gonna get repeated..
It's not a song about Noelle. It's a song about her sister, December.
She's been gone for a while now, and Noelle freezes at any reminder of her.

Toby really subverted everyone's expectations about Noelle with the snowgrave route. Although her father dying could still be a major plot point
They could still try to save him by bringing him to the dark world to use magic on him. It could even drive Noelle to create her own dark fountain.
Maybe a dark fountain will be made in the mayor's office due to this.

Poor Noelle. She is doing everything to live up to her mother's expectations, but with her father's illness there's no predicting what will happen. If Ralsei finds her he'll make her a cake, but it'll be up to her to let Susie in on her feelings if Kris has a change of heart. Noelle will need a trustworthy companion to defend her and show her how to defend herself.

This chapter, Noelle got a taste of the Dark Realm. A place full of terror and enemies. Yet, at the same time, a place of safety and friends. In the Dark Realm, anything is possible. You could have magic powers, as strong as you want to be. The people there are violent at first, but show them a little mercy, and they can become a shoulder to cry on. Yes, the Dark Realm is a place where your hopes can be realized, and your dreams can be fufilled. Such as... love?
It's such a shame she chose not to remember it, writing it off as a simple dream.

So here’s my prediction for Chapter 2:
Noelle’s dad gets very sick and/or dies. Noelle doesn’t want to face this, so she dives into the fantasy realm of the Dark World to escape from it. Thus she is “lost” in the Dark World.
In the dark world she finds the equivalent to what Kris and Susie found. For Kris, someone who looked and sounded like his brother but when he was littler since those were the best memories he has with him. For Susie, a friend that accepted her cool and badass way of life. And for Noelle, someone who would be a dark world version of her father or maybe even her mother since I dont think we heard anything about her mother so that must mean she's gone too
Oh interesting theory, I like it. Maybe that’s what makes the Dark World truly dangerous?

To support this, in the alarm clock dialogue (which is in the undertale universe) hes dead and asgore mourns his death about how he was there for him on every stage of his life, back to deltarune and in the hospital he says him and asgore were college pals

I’d like to point out how Noelle defies against Queen’s wishes when Queen tells her to make another fountain, it’s like she’s standing up not to Queen, but to her own mother. Even then, however, Queen then tells Noelle that she should make a fountain to create a world that _Noelle_ would be happy with - meaning that even though Queen isn’t her mother she still cares for her likes she is
Also, for some reason, every time I listen to this song, I can’t help but think of my mother. It’s bittersweet

We manipulated this poor girl into murdering many innocent people not to mention one of her friends. And then on top of it when Susie told her it was a dream trying to make the pain go away, we were gonna flat out tell her that she did it for real. Please give Noelle a break in chapter 3, she deserves it.

The only reason I ever did Snowgrave was to say I had, and afterwards, when I had defeated Spamton NEO, I thought about how Berdly is quite literally dead, and how Noelle and Kris are probably dead inside. That is when I deleted the save..

I killed the ruins monsters, and the Snowden monsters, endured sans's honest and deserved criticisms for what i was doing. Then came the point of no return. When papyrus, a monster who knows everything you've done, he has seen it and all of his fellow monsters fleeing in terror from me. He stood there not to fight, but to befriend me, not use violence, not try to control my actions, simply saying if i just tried, i could be good, even when there was no reason, he believed in me, that i could make the right choice, and stop this pointless pursuit of an empty accomplishment, and extinguishing any chance of joy continuing in this world i called a home for a short time. He smiled and held out his arms, ready for whatever might happen. I chose to spare him, and shut off the game after that. I never touched Undertale since. I never dared to keep stepping past boundaries that i shouldn't have, and ruining a peacful world just to say i completed the task. I am sickened by my human nature to see things fall apart to satisfy my hunger for stimulation, heart stopping events that pull me out of my menial existence and feel like i have a say in a reality i have no right to play god with. I'm just a single human. Nothing more. I can't do that.

there's a theory going around that Dess, Noelle's older sister, went missing rather than dying, and some point to this song title as a possible clue to that. regardless, i love the inherent melancholy to this song. It's incredibly calm, but there's that hint of sadness or remembrance of something to it.

heres a crack head theory: dess is trapped in a dark world or maybe in the bunker, what if dess, kris and asriel knew about the dark worlds? in chapter 1, kris already has a save point. noelle said that dess told her that she would take noelle to a place with shining lights. i think they all used to go to the dark world till dess when miss, also noelle mentions how some parts of cyber world is nostalgic to her

We never see any mention of Susie’s family or even caretakers and her dialogue with Kris in the hall at the beginning shows that she might look up to Toriel as some sort of vague mother figure.
Meanwhile, Noelle’s father is very sick, so much so he had to be hospitalized. Just a laugh sends him into a small fit of coughs. On the other hand, her mother is busy (presumably being the mayor of the town) and seems to not have that much time for her. Back to her dad, if he does end up dying, I can see his death affecting her immensely. Alongside her mother, he’s the better caretaker from what we see.
This leads me to think that Noelle and Susie’s relationship can be more than “shy girl x tough girl uwu”. They both don’t have the best home lives and I can easily see Susie trying to comfort Noelle when it comes to her father and Noelle doing the same for Susie.
I like Krusie as much as the next guy but I can see a great side story unfolding from the Suselle ship if that’s the path Toby takes.

When I was a little kid, Undertale meant a lot to me. Even if I didn't wholly appreciate it for what it truly was and was instead sort of part of the obsessive fanbase, I was also able to be my own person and there were still things about it that I was able to love on my own. I was going through a lot at the time it came out, and though I didn't get to play it for myself until 2019, I had been a fan long before then.
When I played through Chapter 2 of Deltarune days after it released, and when I first heard this theme, I sorta paused and just listened to it for a time. Though I'm still a fan of Undertale, I've grown and matured since I originally discovered it, and thus, I feel somewhat different towards it. I'm not a child anymore. However, this theme in particular, for just a moment, made me feel the same way I did at twelve years old, when I listened to nothing but the Undertale soundtrack and I watched all sorts of videos about the game. I'd lie awake at night and stare up at the stars and feel the chill through the walls, wondering if I'd ever go on such a grand, funny and bittersweet adventure myself one day, and then desperately wishing to do so.
Thanks, Toby. Even if it was just for one fleeting moment, I appreciate feeling like that again. It's.... been awhile. Although I am older and think differently than back then, it feels good to have this "magic" feeling again, where even if things are stressful and frightening.... you can still look up at the stars and know you'll be okay. :)

Noelle and Berdly both have unique faces and voice fonts. That means, if we’re going to have to add everyone to our list of heroes, we end up with Lancer, Susie, Kris, Ralsei, Noelle, and lastly Berdly. Yeahhh, the prophecy is a little squished.

This makes me very sad because Toby likes to make these weird yet entertaining speeches from each character (I think they're called alarm clock dialogues or something idk) and in one of them asgore talked about his friend, who is noelle's dad and that he died but his daughter (Noelle) lived to see the sun
Now it is clear that deltarune isn't a sequel or prequel to undertale rather a "what would've happened if the war never happened" Version of it. In it everything that had to be made happened, toriel and asgore are not together, they adopted a human (Kris). All the amalgamates died because Alphys was never a royal scientist. And mettaton is still a ghost for the same reason. But it is apparent that the dark world incident happened a bit later than when frisk fell down, since gerson (the crab apple turtle dude) died, and asriel is old enough to be in college, that means that it's time for noelle's father to fall down as well. Just like he did in undertale, and he died after the amalgamates since he didn't get amalgamated too in undertale, so my guess is 100% chapter 2 will be about Noelle dealing with her father's death and probably entering the dark world and joining the fun gang.

I'm kinda a HUGE fan of Noelle(who isn't), her character is so interesting... Like her father said, "she may look like she has it all..." but we all know it's something so much more. Father sick in the hospital, mother strict and tough on her(we dont know why yet..), and sister's whereabouts unknown. Undermined by Berdly her whole life, taken as a pushover...
Queen said "and Noelle. Who will help her? Her strange and sad searches... Who will answer them?" (Something along those lines-) Yup. This girl ain't okay I FEEL SO BAD FOR HER..... A AA. PLEASE MR. FOX TELL US WHAT'S GOING ON WITH HER AND LET ME *_HUG HER_*
I feel the same way, I was really interested from the first chapter and I'm glad we're learning more about her. I hope she isn't tragically screwed over like Asriel was in Undertale, not sure if I could take it :(

Not only does the Queen likely represent Noelle's controlling mother, the Queen's desire to turn her into a "Willing Robot Peon" could symbolize her mother's desire to keep Noelle as an academically spotless nobody with no social life or freedom of thought

I aborted Snowgrave. When I saw that there was a "secret route" that involved both of the defining characters in this game for me, I was super excited.
Noelle and Kris are the only ones I've gotten emotionally invested in, and I want Noelle to be happy so bad. She doesn't deserve any of the BS she gets. It's heartbreaking to me that she puts on a constant smile, and never talks about her misery with anyone to protect them from the burden of worrying about her (and prevent them from hurting like she does).
What's even more tragic is the fact that Noelle was once Kris' happy and carefree playmate, when they were kids... But they drifted apart. Upon finally reconnecting, that joyful and happy little Noelle who Kris knew is gone. Totally gone. Her life only got worse and worse in Kris' absence, and by the time they realize something is up, too much damage has been done. Part of her is dead, and she'll never be the same; Kris wasn't even there to notice that his old friend was slowly dying. That seriously sucks.
Now she's trying desperately to make her terrible life work, letting her immense pain roll around inside, and staying cheery and kind towards everyone because of self-destructive selflessness. Another case of the least deserving, most kindhearted character living in hell on Earth. Giving until she has nothing left.
So, as I was doing Snowgrave, the possessive and manipulative dialogue options started to show up. It was at that point that I said "fuck this", and deleted the save.
Poor Noelle is squashed at *every* turn; by her awful bully of a mother, her controlling study partner, her total inability to help her sick father, her missing older sister... And now Kris, the only person she *and* her father trusted *never* to hurt her, to protect her when she's vulnerable or afraid... And *immediately* as she opens up to them, boom. Crushed again. I was devastated for like a week. So, so cruel.
Listening to her themes makes me hurt in a way that I haven't since Undertale. They are so beautiful, like they're trying to be carefree, but just can't anymore. So full of melancholy and utter loneliness.
She needs a hug, and a patient listener, and some tenderness in the bitter cold of her life. I really want to be able to provide those for her in later chapters. She obviously has her own ambitions and dreams, she just barely ever talks about them because she feels so intensely and helplessly small, all the time. When she turned around on her bed in her Darkworld room, and when her face lit up, becoming free/comfortable, losing her constant worried tension while she talked about wanting to become an angel, my world lit up for like 30 minutes. Those two moments are just so beautiful and sincere.
Sorry for the long comment, it's just that a video game has never made me feel like this. Undertale came close, but this is something else.

@@snqoqo no no I realize that, my bad for not clarifying. I never did Snowgrave. Again, I only got up to the part in the walkthrough where the first possessive dialogue showed up (Ferris Wheel Poster), but decided I hated where it was going (as I was doing it completely blind) and immediately quit. Here I was thinking this "Snowgrave" thing was a secret area where I'd get cool Noelle lore. I was afraid it would be bad when the walkthrough guy got to the Ferris Wheel poster, so I opted to just check the rest on CZcams, and it hit me in a serious bruise area. The reason I was referring to Kris the way I did here is that from Noelle's perspective (up until the end, when the player's voice bypasses Kris and she notices a difference), it *did* seem like Kris was betraying her.
Snowgrave made me severely uncomfortable. When the player (as Kris) corners Noelle, slowly encroaching on her personal space despite her weak objections until she's terrified and just gives up, and her already damaged will to fight back is broken? I had to close the video. Uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh. It was so weirdly real, and so sickening.
The let's play dudes were all like "yo this is so creepy!!", but I just sat there with this yucky taste all throughout my entire body. It is, hands down, the most disturbed I've ever been by any piece of media. Watching Undertale genocide was sad but this? It's just so personal, so invasive... Just so mean. Kicking the vulnerable while they're down, afraid, alone, and can't stand up for themselves. It's the purest evil these games have allowed imo.

Kicking the sad little girl while she's already trapped, crying, and slipping around helplessly in the mud. I need to take a break from this game for a while maybe, I never get this deep into things. Never felt this intensely about a video game, I guess?

Her mom is Toby knows where (ahem), Her dad is sick in the hospital, Noelles Dad is the only person she can rely on. If she were to lose her Dad, who else would she have? 'Lost Girl'. Noelle is lost. Theres nobody there for her. All she needs is a friend. Somebody to comfort her. To protect her. To rely on.

This song feels like a sleepover where you and them just chat about random things in the darkness for hours
I think what will happen in deltarune chapter 2 is her dad will die, and she remembers something that her dad said like "Noelle, you have to be more brave, and face the world." or something like that because I remember her dad saying something like "she's too scared and she can't fight back". She goes into the dark world so she won't face her father's passing, but also to do the thing her father wanted her to, become braver. And the more the story progresses, the braver she becomes, but secretly treasures her father's words in her heart.
My theory is that this is not Noelle's theme but her sister December (Dess). It is implied that Dess went missing so the title is referencing that. Noelle has a strange family, her sister is missing, her father is dying and her mother is the mayor who we have not yet met. She does not visit Rudolph in the hospital with Noelle and does not help Noelle when she is locked out. I'm sure that Noelle will be a very important character in future chapters, as more is known about her than almost every other character.
I can only assume she's been trapped in a Dark World. We may yet learn what such prolonged experience does to a Lightner.

I relate to Noelle, my father's passing left me with terrible anxiety and my mom is too harsh on me, I feel like I'm going to die all the time and the physical symptoms of the stress aren't helping. Every day I can't help but cry and pray that I live to see another day.
I hope that Rudy turns out okay, it would hurt a lot to see noelle go through the same pain I do, she doesn't deserve this hell.

This game can be described with a few things. A dark dimension, a computer world, a queen who is high on acid, and LOTS of sexual tension.
Seriously, _everybody_ had sexual tension. Kris x Noelle, Noelle x Susie, Susie x Kris, Kris x Ralsei, to name a few. Honestly, it could go either way.
I'm seeing a pattern. Toby really loves lesbian lizard/dinosaur ladies.. And honestly, I can get behind that because they've both been so wholesome.
Theory
Noelle lost her father and accidentally got into the city
I think the city is a Dark World area, this could still be true if she would happen to stumble into the closet one day
so wait is the dark world a manifestation of a humans and monsters imagination when in response to negative emotion?
magic must still exist in deltarune and it would make sense if a human and monster with a strong sense of imagination are close enough it can warp reality to how each recipient feels or perceives.
for instance what if at that exact moment when susie and kris were walking towards the supply room, kris's soul filled with determination and susie's magical abilities resonated with one another due to the pressure and tension between them just fighting, well it wasn't actually fighting more like a great deal of tension but not to the point of killing each other more like how normal children act especially with a bully in this case susie. it would also be interesting if gaster was actually studying the relationship between *living* humans and monsters when dealing with everyday life one of the aspects being hardships.
extreme negative emotions in an environment could be the actual cause of what kris experienced with the dark world. It could be seen more as symbolic manifestation of ones greatest need when either someone is at there lowest point or at there darkest. kris is a child going on to be a teen who's brother left him behind as life went on.
it wasn't malice or anything negative it was just them drifting away as they got older and pursued different goals, that still didn't change the fact that kris grew lonely over the short years of separation of him.
But what made the whole ordeal even worse was when Toriel and Asgore divorced. To kris' eyes his family was falling apart at the seams and he was all alone, with no one to actually talk to.
When kris was in the dark world we might have just seen just one of his needs which was Ralsie or Asriel he wants to have his younger brother back, susie's need was non other than the whacky meme lord and still framed walker lancer himself, I mean the way he walks just seems like someone imagined him up and didn't bother to give him walking animation, let alone care to, and I think that fits susie's character like a glove, someone who doesn't give a crap about the fine details but wants something to be visionary to see or interact with, lancer represents susie's need for acceptance for who she is and what she likes. just like susie, lancer is an outcast but respected out of fear for one reason or another. In the next chapters we might not just see Ralsie this time around or at all but next would be kris' other family members.
and sense this will probably be Noelle in the dark world, It must have something to do with her father and sense that both kris and noelle are having family issues it would stand to reason that this would be the cause of being in this dark city. kris will have an adult figure as his partner going down this path in this dark world to represent his need for guidance in this sea of hardship. darkeners are probably just extreme manifestation of ones many problems and needs taking reference of objects or locals.

Most likely, the city is in the dark world. In the picture we got for Welcome to the city, Kris is wearing their dark world clothing; which would make sense since in the official art for this song, Noelle is wearing different clothes.

I've seen a lot of these comments say that 'Lost Girl' refers to Dess and how she's missing, which is a great theory, but where is she lost? My theory is she's trapped in a Dark World. She may've wondered into one randomly and got trapped. with no way of returning because a human can't seal it.

I could tell the first moment I heard this song, Noelle's heart was aching and isolated. I didn't know quite how, because I hadn't interacted with her father, and had no idea his condition was so dire, her mother so strict, or her sister missing, but could almost tell from the second I saw her and that bright smile that she was hiding something painful. And this song just brought all of it to the surface. Resonating with a mournful sweetness, one of a kind soul that's hanging on by a thread, pushed and shoved around by the terrible riptide of life. A smile that was once genuine but now serves to hide her tears. She's too selfless for her own good, still trying the best she can despite all the pain. It almost makes me tear up.

I knew i'd heard this melody before- It played on one of the secret sites connected to the Spamton sweepstakes. The page had a red guitar on it. The song that played was the exact same as this one, except the main instrument was an acoustic guitar.
