Lovely video Steve, very nice studio aswell 😍 must admit you seem super friendly and lovely and an all-round great guy! Keep making content, you’re amazing!
The newer ded200" s have some knobs for adjusting things without the menus. Wish I got that one but mine had the extra cymbal so I said, eff it I'm buying this thing! 😂
Good topic, informative and well broken down into digestible chunks. You know I've been running my Millenium MPS 850 Kit through Superior drummer 3 for the last couple of years. I've got an RTL of 4.5ms so playing in real time without listening to the kit sounds is easily achievable with the right gear. Would I love to have the space for an acoustic kit in the studio again? Yes I would but this is the very next best thing. editing a late midi snare and knowing it's going to line up in the overheads, the room mics and the bleed on the rest of the kit if you want it to is a feature I (my slppy drumming) can't live without. Nice one Steve.
Bonus trick with this thing. If I want to do the purdy thing, instead of going into the menus to switch the tome, you just switch the leads from the first and second tom and you can switch them back anytime!
I’m having a similar issue. On ableton the hat pedal is mapped to a Tom. A Tom is a cowbell. I don’t have abbey road drums, do you know how to change on ableton directly with the kits they provide ?
So what is the realistic latency for live monitor? As guitar players, we've been using audio interfaces with VSTs for years. Anything under 10ms should be fairly comfortable.
On the drum kit, you just monitor the onboard sounds in real time. But, you're recording Midi, so you can apply it to different kits as VST later. I'd probably skip trying to monitor a drum VST in some cases. Drummers are way more sensitive to latency, and some projects might require larger buffer sizes on some computers, increasing the latency. To answer your question, 1ms is roughly the same as being 1 foot from your speaker. So, at 10 feet, that's about 10ms right there. That won't bother most people. Computer/VST setups add about 10ms as well, typically. Not a deal-breaker. Under 30ms is a good goal, total.
Hey i have the donnor ded 200 max and ive used a midi to connect it to reaper and i simply just want to be able to listen to music while i play along but when i play the drums the song audio fades out as i play and the drum audio over takes the song audio.. is there a way to make that issue go away? Im new to drums and e drums and im trying to learn how to simply play along to songs without having any issues.
There's no sound over USB, mate. That's a Midi connection! Midi is to control virtual drum sets on your computer. To get audio, there is an Audio out jack on the Donner. Plug it into the Mic input on your computer, or else get an interface like the Behringer UMC204 for pro results. Let me know if you're stuck~ And watch this video from our other channel to clarify why you can't hear Midi over USB: czcams.com/video/3QZW-CUHS80/video.html&ab_channel=RecordingandMixingBasics
@@stevesrecordingtips7247 But the donner has a USB to pc . in the software it says usb midi. I cant get software to connect via usb and add different sounds like abbey road.
@@jamesthelesser9345 if you have the DED 200 - you may never get MIDI. it is well known they do not send MIDI off notes - capping at 32 poly. I have one, useless. Some seem to work just fine - but many, many do not. I have to use line to USB. There is no fix for the issue.
Saying Promo? You can just say it if you like. Think they sent it to me for free? That would be nice. It wouldn't be true. I used their 5% off promo code, though.
Informative and helpful buddy. Lots to think about!
Happy to share, Adem!

All we need to know about this new player in affordable studio drum kits. Thank you, Steve!
Thanks, Mate! Fun to play with this thing!
How well do you think it would work with ezdrummer?

Ableton can remap it really quickly. "Midi Learn." There are videos on it.

Are you using a compressor or a limiter in Reaper on your master bus?
Turn it off. That should fix it.
I'm having trouble getting this plug and play. I have Studioone 6. Cant get sounds via USB.
