I vote heavier silk satin for luxurious version and linen for less formal. The dress looks stunning. Those pearls are really a cherry on top that bring everything together. Brilliant as always. I'm tempted to make my own now :).

You should try cartridge pleats on a skirt that thick next time! It would eliminate the bulk in n the waist. That fabric would be perfect for it!!! And its a historic method
She did that, just her attachment method was diffrent. But I agree that this would have solved here issues 😊
She did use cartridge pleats. Did you mean a different kind of attachment method?
Or maybe crossed these pleats with other pleats? I wondered of box pleats would have given similar fullness, but made for a narrower waist.
The fabric is sumptuous, but watching this reminded me of how often I had to dust the lint out of the interior of my machine the last time I used it. It's the price we pay for beauty sometimes, right? Always a pleasure, Frieda. Thank you, as always, for your beautiful videos.

The cinematography and the dress are absolutely incredible, of course, but I'm also struck by how neat you are as you sew. Each part being collected in a box just for this project is just another level of organised

Yes I agree, gathering the velvet was risky but I like that she did the riskier thing and I think it looks great! As for bulk, I thought it added bulk in the right places to add curve to the hips
I think it always shows a love of a subject when someone cares as much for the details that are not seen, just as much for the ones that are on show. The dress is beautiful. We'll done.

Die Videos sind so wundervoll gemacht. Es ist fast wie in einem Historien- und Kostümfilm und verzaubert regelrecht. Zum Schmunzeln bringt mich immer die hörbar deutsche Aussprache ❤ Es gibt kein Nähkanal hier der so hochwertig und ästhetisch ansprechend umgesetzt ist und zum träumen anregt. Jedes Kleid wird zu einer Geschichte und mit Gefühlen aufgeladen. Einfach traumhaft, mein ganz grosses Kompliment 🎉🏆💐
i totally agree with making the inside as beautiful as the outside! it's like a special gift to myself or whoever receives the garment! and it love the teaching element of your videos. i always see a new way of doing something!
My vote is for a soft linen or a matte rayon twill! We don’t typically think of these as luxury fabrics, so i would love to see them used in a couture gown with beading and/or embroidery

Beautiful dress, I love the color of the fabrics both inside and out
Love the end result! You should try it next with a fabric called Rasmir, it's sturdy, but looks like satin. (Don't get confused with the "Light Rasmir").We use it a lot for our couture and wedding dresses, and it's pretty affordable too! (Fyi I live in Greece)
It is lovely, I think staying on theme with a linen would be nice.

The dresses you sew are always so elegant and I absolutely love the purity of their designs.
This way one can clearly see the quality of the fabric and construction. I wonder on which occasion you might be wearing them but I can't imagine it isn't something grand like a ball in a chateau.
well, that's very wrinkly fabric, according to Young Frankenstein( the movie)😀 that's how much I know about fabrics...

Incredible that you manage to iron the valvet without crushing it. I always use my special valvet board covered with nails like a nail mat. Love your video and your dress ❤

A beautiful design once again, Frieda! I love how you took inspiration from the 19th century, but made an elegant dress that can be worn now, and added your signature pearl design :) I appreciate your insights into the pros and cons of the heavy velvet. It looks beautiful but I imagine it was even harder to work with than you let on. If you are going to make the dress again in a different fabric, maybe a lighter wool would work nicely?
This dress is beautiful, as are all your designs. I recommend crepe back satin, silk georgette or even, depending upon how luminous you want the dress to be or not, a lightweight wool crepe.
I think a ligth weigth wool would be stunning. It would have an elegant drape, but also a bit more informal than the velvet. It would also be a nod to the historical fashion, were wool was one of the most common fibres used.
I forgot to mention, how much I appreciated learning your thread tips! Even if you didn't do it purposefully, watching you make the seam using 2 spools of thread at a time and not cutting them so it isn't wasted, fantastic tips!!

Dear, dear Frieda! Everytime I see one of your videos, the strong wish to be able to sew grips my heart. I know that there needs to be a lot of practice and training, but I still wish I could just sit down and reproduce one of your beautiful dresses. Maybe one day… I‘ll learn how to 😉
I don’t have any clue of sewing, so my questions might seem a bit silly, but I hope you (or some other talented folk here) can help me:
1.) Do you use a special fabric for the mock ups? And what do you do with your mock up dresses after you finished the real one?
2.) Where do you keep all these beautiful dresses? I wish it was possible but one can’t just wear a dress like this while shopping groceries… 😅

Not sure if you consider it fabric or not but I think it would be fascinating to see what you can sew with lace. Lace can look so many different ways depending on how you use it. You are so incredibly talented that I am sure you would create something stunning!

I love the new take on the historical inspiration! I think this fabric is beautiful, both in color and in weight. I kinda like that the thickness of the fabric references how stays needed to be made of thick fabric to be supportive and hold their shape, so if you make this dress again, I’d love another thick fabric, but maybe one without a pile so it’s not quite as thick as velvet. Beautiful work, as always!

I'm going to propose silk taffeta. The crispness of the fabric will enhance the pleats without making it too bulky, and you can go towards a regency look or a very modern style by picking some duochome shiny one! Anyway, another beautiful dress and a great video :D

Your design is gorgeous! And I'm always loving the beautiful cinematography of your videos (as a film student I'm amazed!) I haven't had any patience to create my videos with more thought in the video aspect but you inspire me to take that time someday when I can replace my missing tripod.. ANyway, love seeing your creations and the final reveal was beautiful with that model! Although thick fabric made it a bit difficult, I think it's so useful to see it!!

@@friedalepold Haha love it!! I've definitely utilized random objects to stabilize a camera! I did photography/videography for many years as a side hustle but sewing is a newer thing. I sense myself wanting to combine my talents and your videos have truly inspired me to make it happen sooner than later! Once I catch up with my pre-recorded content I want to start upping my production creativity, mainly because I just love it so much. It's just so pleasing to watch. :D

It's lovely, but i agree that velvet is such a pain in the butt to sew. I second the idea of satin. Though the pearl details definitely compliment the velvet more.
The velvet dress is exquisite!! I love watching you create your designs from sketch to reveal! It is like watching a fine ballet. Choosing the pattern of the skirt can have different reasons. In this case I used velvet, which has a clear direction of the fabric. In order to make a skirt with more volume I had to use panels with the width of the fabric and sew them together in order to follow that direction! I hope that answer your question! 🥰

What kind of pencil do you draw your patterns with?
Do you mean on paper or fabric? On paper I am using a Koh-I-Noor Toison D’or most of the time - on fabric whatever works best:D here it’s a ballpoint pen
