Why would trench warfare be a thing when they already have advanced tanks and high tech flying machines. That is literally the reason trench warfare stopped
They don't already have tanks. The first time Tanks are even mentioned is in the last few episodes. As for the high tech flying machines. they're new. Many nations don't even know of them yet. And no, trench warfare has not stopped, it's just not as useful as it once was. Now it's only used in defensive combat.
I haven't watched the anime, but in the manga they begin with trench warfare and are slowly transitioning to something more akin to ww2 combat (mostly the empire). They began to use the mages as paratroopers, using navy as artillery support, and most recently abandoning their trench frontline to bait Francois troops and going for a massive encirclement movement. I think it's more of a matter of time before they adapt out of trench warfare

Not quite. You're looking at it wrong, as it's not a cleric against god, it's an atheist refusing to pay respect to a supreme being that is not benevolent, and not omniscient. That being gives him/her hell for an entire lifetime as a result.
Actually Tanya isn't refuting the existence of being x, she is denying him the title of "god" since for Tanya, a non benevolent nigh-omnipotent entity isn't a god but either a devil or something in between, that she calls "being X". That's why she refuses to call his name or pray to him, because she refuses that he's an entity that humanity should pay respect to, just like you don't pay respect to the devil.
