I have been building Triumph motorcycles all my life and I can honestly say this guy is the best mechanic I have ever witnessed! He’s taught me a few things definitely and he’s attention to detail is second to none ! Top man keep posting dude ! Thank you soo much 💪
Thank you very much Todd and thanks Lowbro Customs, I'm rebuilding my T100R from scratch and It really helps me to not miss anything.
Todd you have the patience of Joeb. You take the time to explain in detail all the nuances of the 650 unit. I've bought many parts and pieces for my vintage Triumphs over the years from Lowbrow. Thanks muchly and be safe out there.
Working my way through these videos, and they’re the best. Doing my first restoration on a 1966 T120R, and Todd is the Jedi Master. Couldn’t recommend these enough.
36:53 I have no idea how I ended up here but it's good to hear my grandads name again.
Super helpful. I am putting a unit transmission back together for the first time. Everything is going smoothly. Thank you Todd!
yes so when I bought my t140 last fall I was kinda freaking out fixing up after I had purchased it! I am a machinist by trade but not a motorcycle mechanic. I had not worked on a bike since the 80's when I was always wrenching on my iron head sporty...and thankfully I had a mentor who helped me back then. Well Todd is my online mentor now (did not have a computer in the 80's heh) So I am bringing back this machine back and it is thrilling for me. Just a great series and I try to always buy a part from lowbrow when I can. Just really a great series and lowbrow is a good bike shop I think for sure.
This guy was gifted to us by the triumph gods
Can’t tell you how much confidence Todd has given me. His explanation, and solid step by step no nonsense instruction is excellent. Thank you man.
I love this guy, what an awesome job!! Love all the videos. Todd just rocks, plain and simple.
This guy knows his stuff.
Very informative. Actually the best video anywhere for this type of build. Excellent.
Thank you so much what a big help!!!!
Your amazing, thank you so much for your lesson. I'm learning so much watching this series, just can't thank you enough. I really like how you keep everything so clean as your working on the motor, great lessons to learn.
Been doing up 650 unit twins for some years, and this is the best tutorial set of vids around. Explained in plain language, only a total idiot coudn't follow this.
Many thanks for this series of videos Todd, looking forward to the next one. I have a 350 cc but a lot of the information is also relevant to that engine too.
really like these vids. Please please do a T20 engine re-build!!!

Great video mate, you've saved my bacon, thanks again.
Another entertaining and informative video Todd! Thanks so much. I just got my TR6R cases back from vapour blasters so just about to start the rebuild!
Todd is the best and so is Lowbrow...
This is a really great series.
Definitely looking forward to the next episode.
Thanks!
Just brilliant as usual....thanks so much. Don't suppose you want to do a series on T150v rebuild eh?
great video Todd! thanks for the cup and deck of cards for christmas
Ya, great series Todd
Awesome as always thanks Todd and Lowbrow
Brilliant videos - many thanks for all your hard work. Really helped me rebuilding an 1972 TR6R Tiger. Only difference is that my gearbox has a leaf spring to hold the cam plate in place.... no wonder Triumph changed to a plunger! It's a bit nasty. I found it best to set up the index in 1st Gear not 4th. As the leaf spring has to sort of nip under the cam plate as the inner cover goes on. Otherwise your methods an advice are cracking.
Other way round mate. The leaf spring came in with the oil in frame models, like yours. and mine, an OIF Bonnie 650. The spring works much the same but it was a few pence cheaper to make.
@@stevecunningham8960 Well spotted! Not sure why I said 1st. But you're correct - 4th! Cheers!
Could you guys do a video on rebuilding a 5 speed gearbox? Like the T120V?
Roll camplate to 4th gear notch straight down.
Align quadrant top slot with shift shaft hole ...quadrant is down not quite all the way...and push inner cover home.
Thanks!
You really helped. Was having a very hard time indexing and you saved me a lot of time. Very well done video. Tom
Thank you so much! Sorry it too us so long to see your comment and donation and reply! I am very glad that it helped... I use our video each time I index a Triumph transmission as well, it is good to get a refresher and then get it done right the first time :)
The clutch lever is super hard to to pull in on my 1971 T120R. The person that I got it from has put another clutch on it. I've had it all apart before to inspect why it's so hard. It seems the springs are very strong. I know that if it sets for awhile it's very hard to roll it with the clutch lever pulled while it's in gear. I have to roll it several times to get it broke loose with the lever pulled in.
Thanks Todd love your work .!
Can you do a video on timing a bike that has the mag/ Lucas ET system?
Not sure if you've seen these British made kits - superb improvement on original ignition etc. No more contact breakers and condensers or the Lucas charging system... Fitted it to my 1972 Tiger. Ignition is a D+CDI with single coil. Charging is only to charge a small battery. Works very well and timing is a one time job when installing. Very impressed. www.electrexworld.co.uk/cgi-bin/sh000001.pl?WD=stk%2d102&PN=STK%2d102D_%2d_Ignition_Alternator_Kit%2ehtml#SID=826
Enjoy your videos on this project. A lot of good info for those who've not done this kind of rebuild. I do have to say you are pretty conscientious with most of your methods and procedures. However, some constructive criticism on your treatment of various seals. Shaving a bit of rubber from the OD on installing into tight bores is usually not a problem as long as there's a good tight fit. But driving that kick start shaft through that seal with a mallet was not a good idea! Cutting that ring of rubber from the seal's ID was really not ok. The ID is the critical area of any lip or o-ring seal, and punching out a portion of the ID as was done here is a mistake. If that seal doesn't leak, or at least weep oil, you'll be very lucky. The correct move would have been to admit the error and replace the seal. Then spend a bit of time dressing the shaft end so that it will enter and slip through the seal without damaging it. Why spend all of the time and effort, then damage a seal and not replace it?
That seal is flat on the inside edge I did not harm it as this engine has been run for 2 seasons with no leak at that location although I agree with your general statements unfortunately some of the reproduction parts may not be correct dimensionally
Absolutely brilliant stuff! Merry Xmas form England!!
My 69 tr6r grates when changing gears, clutch basket new and adjusted.
What do you think. Thanks nick.
Todd, what size socket are you using to torque the high gear nut? 1-5/8 is too small and 1-11/16 is sloppy. Great series!
xopher flett what size socket was it?
How do i get intouch with you Todd,i have a 750T140V triumph, an i need some help please send me ur contact
