@@PollyWannaCracker21 I have been crafting pretty much all my life and so I tried making my first wreath this last September for my own door. I loved the art of making it so much, I decided to make a wreath for 7 special ladies in my life. I also watched many different ladies here on CZcams, including Jenny, on how to make different types of wreaths. I had a friend ask me to make one for her and she gave me a picture of what she wanted, and I duplicated it for her. Jenny is actually the one that inspired me to start an etsy shop. I haven't sold any because of etsy yet. Most have mine have been local because every week I post my wreaths on marketplace and tell them I live in the area and that has brought me my most business. I also post each wreath I make on my Facebook page everyday and that has helped tremendously! I don't beg or all anyone to buy from me, I just show them my beautiful wreaths. I make each wreath in my spare time. I get interrupted alot since I have 4 kids but I just keep making the wreath until it's done.

The problem is, and what I daily tell myself, that the others I'm watching have been doing this for YEARS. I've been going a little over a month. One of the first wreaths I made a year ago (I sent you pic on IG) you were so sweet to just say, "nice bow," lol, lol, lol. I made my sister give me back that wreath and totally tore it up and gave her back a new one this year! It's amazing how much you can improve over time. I just wish I didn't have to redo things so often. I love having the VIP group!

You inspire me so much I want to make wreaths but I’m always afraid someone will laugh at my wreaths or think this looks cheap so I freeze up and don’t do anything
I really hate that you guys feel this way. I just joined Jenny's VIP group and have had no time to even start on it yet. I have projects to finish in my house, but I didn't want to forget knowing I might forget and THEN! I would have to wait until Spring! So I know I am in. A lot of my wreaths turn out great- and some not so hot. And wreaths are not all I do.
You don't have to come on here and start an Etsy shop and get crazy but you DO need to have faith in your talent. I'm not 100% assured in my wreaths or gnomes or whatever I have made. I show my things to my daughter and she has promised (and I KNOW she is truthful) to tell me if the item I had made is sellable material and if not- what is wrong with it. It does help... Maybe start with either mesh or grapevine wreaths, which ever you are best at. Get really good with the one you choose. You will do great. If you go on Etsy and look at some of the wreaths that are selling for 2 or 300 dollars and what some of them look like- you will be assured- there is something for everyone. Just don't worry if your wreath doesn't sell in the first day or even week. You will never know if you don't try! So let's do it! :)
Great info! I'm so bummed that I'm seeing this now and that missed the VIP opening. I've already learned so much from your wonderful videos on CZcams. I'm starting my own wreath making business and my goal is to start sell at shows in the fall and winter. I'm also a major proscratinator and I've been putting off making wreaths because im so anxious about it. I also get self doubt after looking at wreaths online. But after watching this I'm so ready to sit down and get to work tomorrow. You are an inspiration. Thank you for all the advice and info!

You are an amazing young lady! You always hit the areas where I am the weakest as in Procrastination my biggest enemy along with just taking the leap. I am (don't like to say this) 65 and have had a brick and morter store, pottery ship, candle shop alot of these thing I sold in my store. Raised 4 wonderful kids with Mt first one being identical twins. I was so stupid! I am a critical care nurse for most of my career. Almost nurse practitioner but very last class my mom became ill and had to pull out of the semester. You only have one mom. I'm saying I have many talents.....Procrastination.....that is my enemy. Having ADD adds to the circle of procrastination and then comes the analysis paralyzes. Great word. Age and learning the new programs as in social media is another analysis paralyzes.
I am saying all of this to let people know they are not alone. The best thing that has come out of this is YOU. I have watched so many videos of different people but you are honest and personable. You have a great way to engage people. Your education style is from your heart. I refer to you as having the gift of gab. I have taught nursing, been the director of nursing school. I have had to learn to have the gift of gab but it is not the same as yours. I call it a gift from God. Didn't mean to write a novel, I wanted to let you know how important you are to an arena of people....some just like me! So thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing the gifts that God has blessed you.

Oh boy is this me! I started making wreaths, just for me, last summer. I made them with really cheap flowers, but it looked OK. Then I made some in autumn...again just for me, and they were rubbish! 😆 I tried making them super cheap and it showed! Then at Christmas family members asked me to make them some. This time I stepped it up, I used good products, I watched dozens of CZcams videos, I follow every wreath, craft pages on Facebook, and they actually came out nice.....but i did them for free! At my cost. After Christmas I stepped it up, I've found suppliers in my region, that sell at trade prices. So much cheaper than anything in the shops where I am, and so much nicer. (U..K) I bought a better glue gun! I bought a better wire cutter, I got to work making myself lots of wreaths, floral displays in various containers, my home and garden are filled with my crafts, my family continue to ask me to make them some, so I do....for free.....and I've definitely improved...BUT I CANNOT bring myself to put myself out there and sell my crafts. Even though this is exactly what I want to do. I keep saying I'll watch a few more videos and make a few more free ones for friends and family before I'm ready to sell them. Even I'm fed up with myself!

Since my dominant hand is injured, my wreath is still a work in progress. But of course, I had to start with a magnolia wreath! I'm struggling with getting the leaves to lay well. I did have a question: Are you left-handed, or do you work from that direction on the grapevine because the stems go in better?

Thank you as always for your guidance and encouragement. I have a question about wreaths I see on sale on Etsy with signs included that I have seen at Hobby Lobby. I am afraid of getting in trouble with Etsy by including a sign purchased at a place like Hobby Lobby in my wreaths. Is this considering taking manufactured parts (like faux flowers), and assembling it into something new, or is it considered reselling something that isn’t handmade or yours? The Etsy guide isn’t too clear on this. Thank you!
That would be considered making it into something new, as far as I know. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Commenting on what you said about making to order. Just starting out, that's one of my issues with purchasing supplies. With expense, I don't know how much to buy. If I only buy enough to make 3 wreaths then I get more request, I worry that I can't find more of same supplies. I know this is probably a mind game but that's where I am.

What is the cheapest way that I can display my flowers in my craft room? I currently have them in plastic containers which is frustrating but I do them labeled by season.
The cheapest way would be to just use what you already have! It may not be pretty but it’ll work. 5 gallon buckets are great for holding florals!

How do figure the amount of greens and flowers you need for different size wreaths?
Well I keep a lot of greenery in stock, so once I get an order for a different size, I can make it. Then once I’ve made it, I know exactly how much it needs. Also, if I made a greenery wreath before, for example, and I want to make a wreath out of a different greenery, I can guess based on how much I used of the previous greenery and how the size and coverage compares. I hope that makes sense!

Thanks so much! So glad you liked it. The best thing is to go above and beyond their expectations. Make a high quality product, package it nicely, write a hand written note (maybe include a coupon code for their next purchase), ship it out quickly, and have great customer service. Get back to any messages they send you quickly. Above that, if you have time, you can keep them updated on their order through convos. You can message them a nice thank you after their purchase, let them know when you send it out, and then when it arrives ask them how they like it and let them know how they can leave a review of they want. I know that sounds like a lot, and I personally don’t have the time to do all of that. However a lot of customers will appreciate the extra attention. I never go and ask for a review. (Etsy reminds them a ton to do that) but mentioning that they can leave a review and linking an Etsy article on how to do that may encourage them to do it. Plus they’ll be so impressed with you at that point they’ll be more likely to. I hope that helps!

I would suggest Etsy if you’re just starting because you’ll get more organic traffic and you won’t have to rely on just yourself. Big Cartel is more of your own website, like a more simple version of Shopify, and Etsy is a marketplace. I have a video in my channel comparing Etsy and Shopify, and I think that would also work as a comparison for Big Cartel. I hope that helps!

Hi Jenny, how do you start your Etsy shop/business? I'm a beginner in making wreaths, and I would like to sell them on Etsy, but I don't even know how or where to start.
First you need an Etsy account, then you can start a shop. I have step by step instructions in my VIP group that kind of walk you through that, but the doors to that are closed right now. But honestly that part is pretty self explanatory. Just walk through the steps, give them your info and all the things they need. Then you set up your first listing. I’ve got a whole playlist of Etsy tips you may find helpful. But I would suggest having some wreaths all ready to list with nice pics.
Hi Jenny I'm Dee I've watched a couple of your videos recently on packaging a wreath and pricing although I'm not at that stage the info was nice to know on June 25th 2022 I was invited to sit in at a craft fair and to my surprise I sold my 4th of July wreath
it was the 5th deco mess wreath I've ever made so sitting here tonight watching the video and listening to the topic I realized I'm everything you mention I love floral design but I have lots of fun with deco mess but I'm scared to fail at any one of the two yet I would really like to learn the craft of both I've given away so many arrangement but selling one felt great as well So the lady that bought the wreath like all that I had displayed but wants to see me make more so that she can see a variety should I step out and make more or quit and just keep giving them away and I'm a perfectionist and I'm stuck ????
Hi Dee! That’s so great you sold one! Yes do both if you love doing both! I’ve got lots of tutorials here on CZcams to help you. And don’t be afraid of failure. It’s not failure, it’s just learning experiences. If you make something and don’t like it, you can always take it apart and start over. I’ve done that MANY times!
I understand that some wreaths are thicker than others. Do you order all different sizes such as 4”, 5”, 6” or 8” boxes or one larger one and cut it down?
I order just a couple different depths, and cut down if I need to.

I've taken a break from my Etsy shop because it seemed like no one was finding me on Etsy. I would type in key words to search for my own stuff and would find it on page 5000! (Maybe a slight exaggeration)
Oh friend, I’m so sorry you got discouraged. I completely understand how frustrating that can be. Etsy is definitely a marathon, and it can take time to rank in search. But I’ve got lots of strategies to help with that. Also, due to personalization, your search results looks completely different than someone else’s. So who knows where your listing would show up in their search.

Oh wow that’s a lot of wreath! I would display your showstoppers out front to attract people t on your display. And have different price ranges (which is sounds like you do since you have all sizes!)

Don't know how you could add shipping and I think it also depends on where the location it's going to and without knowing who's buying it you would have no idea where it was going to so I'm not sure how that would figure out

These are the things I'm trying to explain to my husband he's like what are you going to do with all these wreaths I say I don't know yet I'm still learning with each one I have totally took a couple apart and redo them he is ready for me to start trying to sell them cause I have them every where he went and took pictures of them and posted them I was furious but people responded and I didn't know what to say on the price of them plus there's some I have to go back and check for security and open spots I've made some pretty ones I guess but I'm getting overwhelmed

Do you have an LLC? How are the taxes set up with Etsy?
Etsy pays state sales tax on your behalf for most states, which is so nice! But you are responsible for doing your own taxes. Etsy does send 1099’s out also, and has the fees, shipping, etc nicely organized for you in your finances section in your Etsy account. It’s a huge help when it’s time for taxes.

Hi! It’s a monthly fee, but I don’t like to put the price out there because I may raise the price eventually. Whatever your price is when you sign up will be your price for as long as you’re in the group, though :). I will say it’s under $30 a month

When finally putting it all together, I invested over 3,000 to make 700.
I still work full time, and also take care of my mother who I have moved here locally.

Yes, online definitely streamlines things and takes your creations to a much wider audience. It’s normal to be scared! But do it anyway! 😄 You’ll thank yourself later.
Hi Jenny. I buy wreaths from Etsy even though I could make them. The quality of florals at the stores is questionable. My biggest complaint with purchasing on Etsy is the state they are in when I receive them. Believe me, it vari es immensely. I am totally annoyed when I have spent $150.00 for something I see beautiful and it's smashed more than fluffing will fix. At that point I will not purchase again from the seller. I always send them a message about the issue, but give them a good review. I realize stuff happens, but hoping they will change their process for the next customer. I've had a seller tell me , they cannot find or get the right size box. I tell them about box stores. Of course I'm sure there are many sources. To Me the customer is VERY IMPORTANT.

Materials have become very expensive it’s hard to make a profit
As your cost goes up, so should your prices. Because if you don’t, yes, you will lose some profit. But everything is getting more expensive, so it’s inevitable that your prices will need to as well.
