How are they getting away with murder? They're going to have at *least* twelve and eight years in prison, longer if they continue to say they didn't do it.
It's worth remembering that they were thirteen years-old when they committed the crime. They were scarcely more than children and should be afforded some latitude. Yes, it was a horrific crime but nothing can be done to reverse it now; not revenge, not anything.
      RIP Ana

I can see keeping the children’s names anonymous until they are convicted. But as soon as they are found guilty, their names should be plastered everywhere for everyone to see. People need to be informed about dangerous criminals regardless of their age. These boys will return to society at some point and they do not deserve anonymity.

That's part of the progress. You commit the crime, you get punished and afterwards you paid your debt to society and can live your life like an innocent person (mostly).
I personally don't agree with that approach, but it is what they're going for. Might lower the chance of people reoffending, but the society has to take a risk for it.

Totally agree. And the boys dismissed from seeing autopsy/injury photos? My jaw hit the floor. WHY, their tender little minds couldn't handle it??? WTAF!!! Boy A DID those injuries to poor Ana!!! He should've been MADE to as reminder the terrible he did! Even her poor parents endured them. Yet they're excused like privileged rich kids? I do not understand this. One is her MURDERER, & the other stood by doing nothing when he was her last hope.
The hair-brained leniency continued into sentencing. For Boy A the time does not fit the crime! The judge adds insult to injury saying they've a chance to get out while still young men & continue on w/their lives. Unbelievable. I found this very disrespectful like "OK, that was bad let's move on to your brighter futures". A slap in the face to Ana & her parents. It devalues her life they ultimately took.
There is clearly something fundamentally wrong w/Boy A, having strong desire to kill at that age then making matters worse sexually getting off on it!? Mark my word even if he serves full term there WILL be future problems from this person. He should've gotten at least 50 yrs no parole. At least then either he won't be as physically capable of repeating this heinous crime, or at least odds increase he'll die some sort of karma in prison before release(trying to be optimistic here!).
This story was so heartbreaking & really hits you in the end. Major credit to the creators of the channel, they couldn't have done a better job piecing this complex story together. Am sure I wasn't the only one on pins & needles over the wknd anxious for the rest of what happened.

Boy B is as worrying to me as boy A.
He lured Ana to her death. Supplied the masking tape and had an excuse ready. Had his DNA on a bloodied stick and had an excuse that he dropped it after picking it up but didn't use it. The guards wanted all 16 hours of interviews with him shown because of how calm and calculated he was. They deemed him highly manipulative. When he was questioned by the guards on the evening, just hours after he "witnessed" a brutal and bloody murder and sexyal assault he was calm and a believable liar.
It reminds me so much of the Jamie Bulger case. The police focused in on Thompson as the instigator at the time, because he was outwardly colder, even commenting on his dead eyes etc, and treated Venables more softly because he was more innocent looking and more childlike. It was Venables who reoffended on release and needed two additional identities because he bragged about who he was. While A is certainly guilty, there's something about boy B that's deeply troubling also IMO

I will never understand how they protect the identities of kids who have done heinous and brutal crimes. They shouldn't be protected nor should they be allowed new identities. This was no accident or a impulsive action. This was in Boy A's mind for a long time, he clearly fantasised about hurting Ana. Once he found out she actually liked him, he striked. Got Boy B to go and knock for Ana so he wouldn't be a prime suspect for her disappearance, because he knew she wasn't going home once she was in his presence. Taking advantage of her affections, probably agreeing to be her boyfriend and then said he wants to take her somewhere / show her something and lured her to her death in that abandoned place.
To me this type of crime and the brutality of it, there is no hope nor any redemption for such a person that committed the crime. He should be locked up indefinitely, the thought of his identity being protected and getting out to then having a whole new identity provided "for a fresh start" is absolutely nightmarish. Something needs to change.

Her parents were super strong throughout the entire ordeal (from the time she went missing, to their final victim impact statement). My heart goes out to Ana and her family.
What really pissed me off about this whole thing is both murderous boys' identities being withheld. I hate how the justice system protects killer kids! If they're "grown" enough to plan and carry out such horrendous crimes, then they're grown enough to have their names and faces revealed to the public, and should NOT be allowed to be given new identities! I hope those two thugs NEVER get released from prison!

For a child to be capable of doing such things there has to be something majorly wrong, nothing that rehabilitation will cure. Time & time again we let them out for being a 'changed person' & 6 months down the line there's another victim. Yes, I have some reservations about the full culpability of Boy B. He was embroiled in the plan, and his mind was full of horrible stuff he'd learned online, but I'm not sure he fully understood that the plan was reality not a fantasy. It's likely, IMO, that the possibility of actual murder by Boy A was utterly beyond his comprehension and there was no intent to kill on Boy B's part, so I'm also surprised that his charge was one of murder. The jury was unanimous, though, so clearly didn't share my reservations.

    • @FlameFlickers
      @FlameFlickers Před 2 lety +16

It's illegal to post details of their identities online but that doesn't mean people don't know that information. I'm Irish and I know both of their names and have seen their pictures as have many, many other people who followed this case. This was a murder that shocked the nation and was headline news throughout the investigation and the trial. The police freely admitted afterwards that Boy B essentially convicted himself. There was a ton of evidence pointing to Boy A's guilt but, despite intensive repeat searches, not even a single piece of DNA or any other evidence could be found linking Boy B to the scene. Without his own confession, he would never have been convicted. Whatever his level of culpability was, there is no doubt that a much larger portion of the blame rests on Boy A.
A big factor in granting them anonymity was the fact that there was such a public outcry at the horrific way that Ana was killed, there was a very real fear that, since any potential vigilantes couldn't get at the boys themselves, they would instead target their families. I know one of their families moved from the area shortly after the conviction. I'm not sure whether both have moved.

They deserved life, they took a life, therefore they don deserve theirs.
Why did Boy A get less time, he's the actual killer?
They don't deserve to be returned to their families, as the reporter said, Ana will never be able to. Ireland needs harsher punishments for violent crimes. They do not deserve a 2nd chance. I believe in a eye for an eye. Murdering someone deserves the harshest punishment, LIFE behind bars. Their families should have to grieve a loss just like Ana's. She was senselessly killed, taken from this world for no reason. Those boys are evil. They understood perfectly what they did. At 13, you fully know right from wrong.
