    I spent countless hours playing Karateka, Lode Runner, Choplifter, Number Munchers, Raster Blaster, Lemonade Stand, and Oregon Trail. Born in 1982, I was lucky to have a father who collected Apple computers starting in ‘77.
    I was particularly fond of the Apple IIc and the Power Mac. 🍎

      @@maniacmasturbator2411 Far worse was "Kabul Spy", where the only command that gets you beyond the draw-bridge is saying "erase bridge". Super lame humor by the programmer, and you'd be permanently stuck without being able to advance in the game if you somehow didn't guess such a ridiculously inappropriate response. And it was a totally serious game, where other humor/puns had no presence, so there was no way to guess that a nonsense command would be warranted.

    The Apple II was pretty amazing for 1977, when it was released, but by 1982, the Commodore 64 had it beat in video and sound, and at half the cost.

    • @handsomebrick
      @handsomebrick Před 5 lety +7

      Of course this was back in the days when computers were so different from each other that it was difficult to compare them, they couldn't even share software so they all had their own unique thing going on. And there were upgraded Apple II models in 1979, 1983, 1984, 1986, and 1988, as well as an upgraded Commodore 64 model called the Commodore 128 in 1985. And consoles always beat them all in gaming anyway.

      Commodore easily beat the II in gaming (except RPG games, where the 9 year load times on the 64 compared poorly to the much faster floppy disk system in the Apple II, graphics aside :) ). The Apple II had a lot more legs in other non-gaming areas though with eventual standard 80 column text and 7 expansion slots for who knows what. Both are awesome pieces of 8 bit computing history!

You would take turns to see who got to the end first. Sometimes you could step on a space that would skip you up a level and sometimes you'd have to go down a level. Can any of you old school Apple gamers help me ID a game I played in elementary school (so this would have been very early 90s but the game could be slightly older)? It was a sort of choose your own adventure/ branching paths game that was text based but with illustrations since it was meant for younger kids, and some probably had basic animations too. It involved some evil purple wizard who sort of looked like Alan on the Smiling Friends (but purple and more pointy looking), and at some point you found a genie that could change the bad guy into a good guy and have him do good deeds (or you didn't and the game continued differently).
