    Man, this was a great surprise! Top album recently from BOC, and its great hearing Buck's banter about it here. Great chat and craic from you both. I still think that one of Buck's best moments is the live rendition of "Veteran of the Psychic Wars", from '81. Theres a video you gotta see on YT. An absolute must see- a reaction would be insane! 😃👍🤘 Mid song, the defiant march through the ice cool, frayed frontlines suddenly take a brilliant ascent upwards to the starlight, as the drums rev up, and Buck blasts off his fretboard. Series of rocket boosted tremelo picked notes blaze across the sky and for the next coupla minutes, all you can do is sit back, close yer eyes and take it all in. Its bloody fantastic. Tanks again for this cool conversation.

    Great interview! I remember seeing the BOC on a Sunday night in a BAD neighborhood in Oakland. Place called the Omni Theater. We had just seen Pink Floyd like the previous month. The Crowd was VERY responsive that night and the Band responded in kind. Halfway through, my wife leaned over to my ear and said “Pink Who?” One of many phenomenal shows of the 46 (and holding) shows I’ve seen with the BOC. First saw them in Cincinnati Gardens in 73? Opening for Rod Stewart and REO Speedwagon. I was so impressed I’ve gone and seen them every chance I got. I sure hope to see them perform the new stuff, because it’s phenomenal. Cheers!

      Like many veteran '70's fans will tell you, it's the initial Black & Blue triptych & it's double live testament, that are the chosen recordings‼️
      Regardless, "The Symbol Remains" is proof the Oyster Boys aren't just a nostalgia act, living off of past laurels...a really great record❗👍

    Outstanding work Fil! Can't thank you enough for this interview with Buck Dharma. Just as I always thought Buck would be, a nice guy, graciously answering your questions and ready to speak favourably about his bandmates. Have you seen Buck"s guitar tutorials on his own CZcams channel? BOC have found an excellent new member in Richie Castellano who besides being an excellent musician, has a good grip on modern recording, audio and visual technology. (Have you seen his Band Geeks cover of the Yes classic "Roundabout", with each band member playing in isolation? Well worth a look). Liking what Buck said about he and Richie as "two lead guitars". The Blue Oyster Cult move on in their own inimitable way and "The Symbol Remains" forever. Buck's son Zeke did some co-writing with his dad on the new album. I wonder if the BOC will always be around, with new like-minded members playing the songs from the band's beginning and carrying their music forward (like Kraftwerk who now have only one original member and say they are not a band but a "movement")? I hope that we see BOC back on these shores in the not too distant future. BOC for the RRHoF? I think 2021 is the band's 50th year (not including their Soft White Underbelly/Stalk Forest Group incarnations) so maybe it's time. Thank you again Fil for your work on getting this interview with Buck Dharma to CZcams. Stay safe and well.

    It was great to see Fil light up as he spoke with Buck. We are so far removed from the days when hard rock was a mainstream staple that even guitar oriented bands are harder to find nowadays and it’s not uncommon to find bands that don’t even have a guitarist. It was fascinating to hear Buck talk about their recording process and having the same sound engineer for several decades. Which raises the question, what are “bedroom” bands of today who produce and mix everything on their computers missing from their sound that a conventional studio produced and mixed recording provide?

      @@stevenwilkinson1265 I agree with you. Not sure if the movie chose the song or the song was made for the movie “Heavy Metal” but for some reason this song doesn’t get the accolades as other BOC hits. I’m thinking the latter.

    You are adorable, affable and intelligent. What a combination. I just stumbled on to your channel, and I will be coming back often. BUCK DHARMA!!! Criminally underrated guitarist. Thank you very much for this interview. It is about time some one recognized him. God knows the RRHOF won't ever. So it's up to us. My comment below was somehow scrambled up and I don't want to take up more room by trying to fix it. I am struck by the incredible array of artists you have included. Patsy Cline? John Fogerty, wow! Love it.

    One of the times I got to talk with Mr. Roeser was at a place called "Night Town" in Destin, Florida back in 1986 on the "Club Ninja" tour. We had a chat about the then new technology of digital recording and CDs. I am not really surprised he has kept up with technology related to music.

    • @StaceJohnson
      @StaceJohnson Před 3 lety +6

      @@wingsofpegasus Absolutely! The whole album feels like BÖC, and songs like Tainted and The Alchemist slot right in next to the old Michael Moorcock-penned Elric songs. Richie's a great fit because he has the chops and the respect for the material. And not only that, to lead engineer the album, perform on it, share songwriting duties, and stitch together that Godzilla video, all during the pandemic, is amazing. Big kudos to him. Without his talents, the pandemic timing might have completely killed the band's comeback, but with him, they've been able to remain productive. Have you ever watched his weekend live stream, Fil?
