Tutorial: German Short Rows

This tutorial shows how to work one set of German short rows in stockinette stitch.
Double stitch on WS: 1:14
Double stitch on RS: 2:24
Resolving double stitch on RS: 3:30
Resolving double stitch on WS: 5:05
Tip: make sure you work the first couple of stitches that follow the double stitch tightly.

DIRECTIONS:
- On the RS, knit to the point where you are supposed to “turn” (as per pattern). Turn your work so the WS now faces you.
- Sl1p wyif (i.e. slip one stitch as if to purl from with yarn held in front) , then firmly pull working yarn directly over right-hand needle from the front to the back of the work, rotating the slipped stitch until it shows two legs, then bring working yarn back to the front between needles and purl next stitch tightly.
- Purl to the point where you are supposed to “turn” (as per pattern). Turn your work so the RS now faces you.
- Sl1p wyif, then firmly pull working yarn directly over right-hand needle from the front to the back of the work, rotating the slipped stitch until it shows two legs, then knit next stitch tightly..
- Knit until you reach the double stitch (there is a “gap” immediately following it). Treat the double stitch as a single stitch, knitting through both its legs at the same time (like a k2tog). Knit to end of row.
- Purl until you reach the double stitch. Purl though both its legs at the same time (like a p2tog). Purl to end of row.

Hi ya 👋👋 I had a go at trying to knit the Trescao jumper last year.. ... Had to give up after multiple goes. Just couldn't get the hang of the GSR. I decided to put it to one side 🫣.... Thank you for this! This is so helpful. I'm working on the Elevenses cardigan collar right now and I've never done short rows. I was a little leery but this has given me the boost to give it a try. Thank you for making such clear instructions.
