  • I thought i'd do a demo of this head as there doesn't seem to be any online. Made in England circa 1975, JMP model 2098 and to my knowledge the first master volume head, as well as having an effects loop. Unusually for a Solid State amp it has an output transformer, so the head impedance switch needs to be set to the cabs. This is what is referred to as a transformer coupled output, and some feel it gives a closer tone to a tube amp than without one. On the following model, JMP 2195 Marshall did away with it, presumably to save money, and In my opinion the tone suffered. Two channels, 1 is bright, 2 is normal, and 1-2 is mixed input. I'm going to run through the settings, clean and dirty, engage the boost and cut and see how it handles an overdrive(OCD clone) on top, at the end of the video. Cabs aren't actually Sunn's, they're Yamaha 4x8 towers from the late 60's/early 70's but sound great.
note it's in a custom sourmash Plexi headshell modelled after the early to mid 70's Marshall JMP head cabinets.

Thanks sir! I had the dials at noon for the demo, but normally i'd run it with mids and bass cranked, treble and presence to taste. It's a good amp! I really like it but I use a preamp in front to tweak the tone. The stock tone is ok but it doesn't respond to volume roll off very well.

@@colonelbrando at the time i hadn't taken off the knobs to reposition the dials, they were a little out of whack! If you look around the uk or europe you can usually get a good deal on one, but getting very expensive on the other side of the pond. They do make excellent pedal platforms!Rock on sir✌🏽
