    66 year old, here, retired. I’ve begun to rethink my wardrobe to include only clothes that are 1) comfortable, 2) good quality, and 3) elegant (even for walking the dog!) I need to dress for 3 seasons (spring/fall, winter, and summer). Having moved to a smaller space, and now that I live on a fixed income, I need to compose a wardrobe with the least number of items with which to create several outfits. Fortunately, I have a small frame that looks best in neutrals rather than bright colours. Yet knowing all of that, shopping for clothes is utterly confusing. So thank you for all your planning tips. The Pinterest boards idea is genius.

      Hi Dani, I am glad you found it helpful. The best way is to chose a colour palette with a limited number of colours. In my experience that tends to help most.

    I found out decades ago that if I wear 2 purples together, they might not go together, but if I add a third purple, they all blend. This works for all colors including blacks and whites.

  • @rosemaryaugustine130

    Michelle… so glad I found your channel. I had my colors done 25 years ago and I’m Winter color person… black, red, white navy… but over the years and 2 relocations later, my wardrobe is all over the place… since I travel a lot for work, I’ve gone back to black, navy, red and white and fill in with some of those other colors you mention… like yellow, beige or light blue. Since I’m letting my hair grow out, certain colors wash me out but the black, navy and red don’t fail me. I’m looking forward to the Pinterest experiment… approaching 74 and still working full time, I’m thrilled at the fashion sense you extend to us ladies. Thanks so much.

    I’m 71 and retired. My wardrobe is jeans and tee shirts. And flannel shirts for an over shirt or cool weather. I have two peasant skirts with a fitted long sleeved tee and low heels for church because I’m orthodox and I dress modestly for the Divine Liturgy. I have a couple of nice tops and the rest of the time I wear jeans. Hi, I’ve found as I age, the simpler the style, the better I feel in it? I also favour, quite smart basics, in solid colours too, I do not look good in swathes of material, or very busy patterns or frills. I’m petite so I try to keep it uncomplicated. 😊 it’s very easy to be swayed by what others say in your sixties, and I feel really sad about it as many of us lose our confidence too? However, if it makes you feel good? I say, wear what the hell you like! You’ve earned the right. 😊❤

    • @capsuleclosetstylist
      @capsuleclosetstylist  Před měsícem +10

      Hi Susan I could not agree more! The only thing we should stop wearing as we age is other people’s judgement! It sounds as if you have some great insight there. It is best to avoid too much fuss if you are petite and solid colours work best too. Thank you for taking the time to comment.

      The biggest help for many women would be to take photos of themselves in their outfits. When we see ourselves in a mirror, we can put an emotional veil of bias over what we're seeing, for good or bad, but it's different with photos. We're more likely so see how we really look, without so much bias. I would bet money that a lot of women think they look fat when they don't (that used to be me) and a lit of women think they look ooh-la-la when they look like mutton dressed as lamb. There are countless scenarios where women overestimate or underestimate how good they look in a given outfit. I can think of several fashion youtubers who don't seem to watch their own videos or they would never recommend some of the outfits that they choose to showcase - particularly in the last year, for some reason. I've unsubscribed from five different channels because they seem to have lost their minds. Just saying, take photos to see how you really look. Don't just depend on your mirror.

I retired a year ago from a career where I spent a lot of time outdoors and had given up wearing nice things or doing my hair and makeup...Now I'm inspired once again to up my style. I've recently let go of all clothing that didn't fit, was in poor shape, or didn't look good on me...I'm still left with a lot and would like to pare down even further to make getting dressed everyday easier. I got an aha-moment about dividing the month, which is something I kind of do already, without analysing. I work in a Kindergarten and dress for movement, comfort and robustness at work. At home I dress a bit more stylishly. That is Scandinavian stylish, not British, which to me is more formal. After a few years most of my clothes end up as work clothes. I'm thinking of having that call consultation.

    Rather than a mix and match capsule I find having 3-5 complete outfits for each type of activity for each season is simplest. Some items crop up in more than one outfit, but they don't have to. I do still have some extra items from previous outfits which I can use for variations if I want, but if I'm going out for a meal I only have to choose between 3 outfits. If one outfit is fairly plain I can ring the changes with different accessories if I want.

    I’m a slender petite and I won’t buy anything oversized, those styles just swamp me. I won’t buy anything really tight, either, or high in Spandex, which I hate, it gives me bulges where I don’t really have anything much to worry about. A classic fit is best, which skims and shows the shape, but doesn’t cling or squeeze. The biggest style mistake I see my fellow American women make is squeezing into clothes that are just too small, they just make them look fatter!

I sometimes get nice comments but I feel I buy too many odds and ends as I’m a bit of a spontaneous buyer, I’m trying to stop that. @capsuleclosetstylist  Před 2 měsíci +7

      Hi Sue, I am sure you do have redeeming features! Everybody does! So if you are petite limit your colours. Wear maybe one block colour with one highlight one in accessories. The current trends are awful so I am not surprised you do not like them! Try and keep the cut of outfits so that they skim your body rather than swamp it. Have trousers cut by a tailor so they are as long as possible dependant on the shoes you wear. I hope that helps!

    • @capsuleclosetstylist
      @capsuleclosetstylist  Před měsícem +3

      Eileen thank you for your comment. Most of the images I have used in this video are of women over 60 and older. In regards to skin colour and hair etc, whilst it can change slightly as we age, there is no one factor that goes into determining which colours suit someone. By showing clear differences in the images I have shown a small example of the differences out there. After 25 years of working with clients I know that frequently most fall between the cracks of the predefined colour palettes of 'autumn' 'cool summer' etc. I constantly work with clients who have had colours done based on those simple categories and they are not right. Therefore it would be impossible to represent everybody in such a broad subject. If you are interested in learning more about colour I am more than happy to chat to you in a consultation. You can find the link in the notes.
