How can people be losing inches off their waist if they are in a caloric surplus cause they are “running the program” and they need to get as big as possible fast?

If you're overweight and do the program, your waist will shrink as the weight on the bar goes up. The caloric surplus is hanging off of your torso - no need for excess food.

A lot of these people are completely new to lifting weights so they’re seeing results whether they’re in a caloric surplus or even a deficit. So let’s say that they start the program and their eating habits have not changed at all from before they started the program, they’ll lose weight from 1. Burning calories during the workout, and 2. Burning calories from their resting metabolic rate now being higher due to the increased muscle mass.

Or they could eat less, start weight training, and do some cardio 3-5x a week for 20-30 mins. If a person desires to loose fat and get in shape focusing on getting as ”strong as possible as fast as possible” is unnecessary and may even be counter productive.

I have followed SS for years and I like its philosophy, but, when I see these videos I can't help but notice how they don't look like they lift. Even worse than that, they look out of shape. The fact that SS idea of training is based entirely on strength, even if one can be interested in aesthetic too, it's something I don't agree with.

We make you stronger. Looking "fit" has to do with how you eat and your parents' DNA.

Being a bloat lord is not fit. Looks tell a lot about one’s fitness.

@@richards6431 lots of power lifters are "bloat lords" and they are perfectly fit for powerlifting.

I mean, I do agree with you, but this is something that I’ve heard Rip and other nutrition focused SSC’s (like Robert Santana) talk about. They talk about how being too lean and ripped isn’t a focus of the SS plan but also that you don’t want to be over fat and they’ve discussed when it’s appropriate to focus on losing weight. So even though not everyone involved with the program displays that, it’s something that the SS methodology does delve into.

@@xmoogoox Don't get me wrong, I like SS and I follow its principles myself, what I say is that it should incorporate some assistance stuff done with a little higher reps, like many other programs do. Strength is obtained with higher reps too, we are not powerlifters right?
