I think that âwhipâ is a better stat to judge how well a pitcher is performing because âwhipâ basically shows the ability of the pitcher to keep runners off base and is calculated by walks plus hits divided by innings pitched⊠so letâs say a pitcher has given up 39 walks and allowed 148 hits over 176 innings pitched (39+148=187/176=1.06) 1.06 âwhipâ is elite level pitching, if a pitcher has a low âwhipâ then chances are heâs going to have a low era although a pitcher can have a high era with a low âwhipâ but all that means is that he probably allows a lot of homersâŠ
OHH YOOO that makes so much more sense (from a non baseball person POV) i love you and that makes sense, so do you think the lower the whip the more elite the player will be, can be, or is?
Most definitely the lower the WHIP shows how dominant the pitcher is, like the pitcher Jacob Degrom who use to pitch for the Mets never had a WHIP higher than 1.2 in his 10 year career and heâs a 2 time cy young award winner and known as one of the best pitchers in the game
