OMG i was at this race as well it was also my first 70.3 , they say that bike course is flat IT IS DEFINATLY NOT FLAT LOL! and the first hill on that run was a big kicker however the locals in the neighborhoods cheering us on really helped a lot
It definitely was not flat. Made me a little nervous to try the courses that say rolling hills 😳 congrats on the race!!

I did Triathlons for 8 years. ½ and full distances.. I never had a Crash on my bike and I did at least 2000miles outside every year .. But I love to see people struggle and overcome fears .=) all best of luck in the future .=)
Congratulations guys! You both did amazing! You inspire me to try my hand at another tri. I did my first several years ago before having kids. 3 kids later I have no time for training but I know one day I will.

So this is crazy I was just scrolling on youtube and this video just popped up on my page. I also just did ironman 70.3 haines city (which was also my first 70.3) and can so resonate with everything you are saying! The way you described how challenging this event is was so well spoken. I also fell off my bike (except less than 5 minutes in) and scraped up my knee pretty bad. It definitely was such a stab in the back like the race was hard enough already. I think its so dope you guys live in a van, thats a dream of mine one day... Anyways congrats on finishing, it is such a huge accomplishment and maybe I'll see you at a future race!
Kelsey, I am so proud of you! I am actually crying (as I'm stuffing my face with ridiculously fattening and delicious cookies). I don't why, but it hit me watching after you got thru the swim and then all the way through the end. I think because it reminded me of watching my son's father training and then competing in the Lake Tahoe Relay Run. The comradery and excitement of the whole thing with not just his team but all that were in this just inspired me. So I organized a women's team and did my very first intense run, 10.5 miles at 7000 feet altitude. I had only just started running at all, that January with my first run being a 7 miler. About a month into training I tore my hamstring really bad and had to back off of training. But I didn't wait amount of time I was told to and was back training within a couple weeks averaging about 30 miles a week. I was the second to last to finish being the last leg on my team. But I had so much fun that I did it again the next year. My team came in 2nd place in the women's division this time. The feeling was exhilarating! This was a long time ago, but the memories of this just came flooding back as I watched you in this. You should feel really good about yourself my niece. You didn't quit. You didn't let your anxiety or fears stop you. And congratulations to you as well Jamie, you are killing it! You both have been inspirational and it warms my heart to see you both in these videos. Much love from your aunty!!
