    I'll never get the yellow paint discussion. With how detailed and highly populated (with random objects) environments in modern games are, I'll take an indicator I can immediately latch onto over clicking the interact button while bumping into every edge of the area trying to find where I'm supposed to go.

    • @azican92

      Agreed! I used to hear the argument about how seeing yellow paint or other markers would take away from the immersion. But you know what else takes me out? When my character model jumps face first against everything on a cliff face until they finally get to a rock they can interact with 😂

      I believe it's a point critics brought out and many of the hardcore people thought it's a good point. But for most games' most players the yellow paint is a good thing, it's just that most people don't say they are fine with yellow paint since it's the normal thing. Of course yellow paint in a FROM soft game would be weird tho.

    • @landonewts
      @landonewts Před 2 dny +3

      I got used to the yellow paint mechanic - and was grateful for it - in Horizon Zero Dawn. In games where you can’t just climb on anything in the world, it’s appreciated.

    • @TheDanteEX
      @TheDanteEX Před 2 dny +3

      @@landonewts I tried playing Shadow of the Tomb Raider with climbing paint disabled on my first playthrough and it was an exercise in frustration to say the least and re-enabled it before the tutorial section was even over. I will say, without the paint markers, the design layout of the environment all blends together seamlessly so I'd say that's impressive from a detail and visual design perspective. But yeah, players need guidance on these things. Horizon Forbidden West lets you keep the climbing bits yellow, but you can disable the Focus HUD glow, and I find that to be a good middle ground. You still have to pay attention to the environment, but any climbable areas are obvious when spotted. And the option of using your Focus to highlight these points still exists if needed. I absolutely love how much of the HUD in the Horizon games are technically diegetic. Like the way the signs are automatically translated by the Focus looks very cool.

      Exactly. It’s not as big of a deal as the internet would have you think. I don’t mind the yellow paint at all. It was super annoying having to click R3 in Horizon FW every time I wanted to see what was climbable.

      @bobspace69 Před 3 dny +4

      @@drgonzo123The problem with the yellow paint is it detracts from the game. It doesn't belong. And it comes in at a time where game developers had long since figured out a way to make things you can scale/interactive obvious but not look out of place so it never pulled you away from the game and start thinking about game design or feel like they're insulting your intelligence.

    • @ScoutSilico
      @ScoutSilico Před 2 dny +23

      @@bobspace69Developers used to NOT use yellow paint because it was obvious what was interactable in the level. Spaces were sparse and a crate you could break stood out, as did climbable ledges. As games looked more realistic they had to indicate which objects the player could interact with because everything blends together. Developers test their games with players during development and they usually come to the same result.

    • @aegresen
      @aegresen Před 2 dny +14

      @@bobspace69 Someone has an inflated sense of self. The yellow paint is actually important as a form of design, especially curation, when it comes to open world games. As someone who has had a hand in dev and QA, you've no idea how important it is to have such pointers placed for gamers, since most are bound to miss what are climbable and what are not; take for example games like Horizon FW where some rocks can be traversed while some cannot. I'd rather have a toggle like in Shadow of the Tomb Raider which gives players the option to have them on or off.

      Don't forget a Mandolorian game, or a new Bounty Hunter game. The original Star Wars Bounty Hunter was an underrated gem on the ps2 and a new game that follows Boba Fett as he takes on main story missions as well as side contracts where you can decide whether to bring your targets in alive or in a body bag (with the higher bounty being alive of course). I'm already thinking it could follow the open world sandbox aesthetic of the Hitman games where you can get creative in how you take down your targets (although I can't really see how Mike's patented exploding rubber duck take down would come into play). I mean, we already know from Jedi Survivor that Boba Fett still has plenty of badassery still in him despite how much Disney tried to ruin him (I mean, he did survive getting eaten by a Sarlacc...twice).

    -Ubisoft “open-world” shenanigans. I don’t expect to be able to go everywhere from the start but how much busywork or same-y missions will there be?
    -Open-world in general. Having an open world is only good if there are things to actually DO there and not just vast swaths of nothing going from one story point to another. Then it’s just boring legwork that may look very pretty but that wears off fast.

    TBH, the thing I was actually kind of hoping we’d get to see from Ubisoft was essentially a Star Wars version of Far Cry or Ghost Recon: Wildlands. Sort of a spiritual successor to Republic Commando, which seems like a pretty natural fit for the stuff Ubisoft does competently (and dammit I want some closure on what happened to Sev).

      Depends on when in between Empire and Jedi it takes place I think. Don’t know how it is in the new EU, but in the pre-Disney EU, Fett got sidetracked on his way back to Jabba with Han; every big name bounty hunter in the galaxy was after him to try and steal Han from him so they could collect the bounty, and several even teamed up to try and do it, but Fett was able to outwit them and get to Jabba.

      Most prop people, fans, and game devs seem to treat blasters in Star Wars as a plasma weapon, from the way that they look visually to how they fire. I don't know if it's officially canon but I'd say it's widely accepted at this point, so muzzle velocity of a blob of plasma is just whatever it's accelerated to.

    I'm definitely up for a game where you're playing a Han(nah) Solo instead of a stupid space wizard. Not all the previews have been as positive as this so I guess there are a few reasons for concern, but the general concept absolutely chimes with me.
    Also: "... the more recent Star Wars games, particularly Jedi Outcast, Jedi Survivor..." I obviously know what you mean there, and that title would have made perfect sense as the name, but the (also great) Jedi Outcast actually came out 22 years ago, so is hard to describe as "recent".

    The fact that Andy is presenting the hot new space game instead of Jane has me worried

    • @goofyfurball7311
      @goofyfurball7311 Před 2 dny

      I wouldn't be. Star Wars has never been hard sci-fi. It's not even as tech heavy as Mass Effect. But Jane has also said before that her space fantasy is the excitement of exploring and meeting new races, which is very much not Star Wars. Not saying she doesn't like Star Wars, just that it's not the type of sci-fi she usually gets excited about in these videos.
      Also, Star Wars is Disney, so it's very likely that Andy was the one who got the invite.
