- The Purple Mattress is famous for the hilarious commercial featuring what's known as the “human egg drop” test, a stunt designed to show the mattress is so supportive and comfortable that eggs won't break when a body falls on top of them. Inside Edition’s Chief Investigative Correspondent Lisa Guerrero wanted to see if the human egg drop test really worked, so she tried it out herself. Supervising the test was Professor Ali Sadegh of New York's Grove School of Engineering, as well as stuntman Bob Cotter. Right away, Cotter realized there was an issue. #InsideEdition
I love how they felt like they debunked the video. She didn’t crack one egg, than when they hired a behemoth to fall off a latter than only one egg broke. If anything I’m getting a purple mattress

They showed the egg test passing on her three times. Get someone heavier than normal and had them perform the test in a manner that was different from the commercial and only break one egg in the process and the claim it doesn’t work... It feels like they went in wanting a certain outcome

They also put the eggs side by side on his back with no gap in between. So, I think the eggs were putting pressure on each other and that’s how the top one broke. If they were spaced out, none of them would have broken

I don’t think that would work. The problem is that the mattress is too thin to safely break someone’s fall before they hit the bottom. You’d basically be free falling onto the box spring regardless if the mattress is there or not. That’s why they had to double up.

I have this mattress, it's quite comfy but the best thing about it is how cool it feels when you're laying on it. It's wonderful, especially during the warmer months but can be a lil chilly on you during the Winter.

Two small layers wouldn’t stop you from getting your back hurt if you fell from that height if the mattress was only on the floor. So yes, it’s mainly because the bed was on a foundation... Just like in the commercial. If you take the bed from inside the commercial and placed it on the floor, yes, your back would be hurt still. And the fact that they got a cheaper mattress with less layers and still managed to not break the eggs, that’s amazing.

I own a Purple mattress because of those commercials. I've tested it myself and it's the real deal...not sure what this video is trying to imply. I'm a 200-pound man and I've stepped on the eggs, jumped on them and fallen on them and I've never had a single one break. Best mattress I've ever owned, going strong for over 6 months now.

This test is misleading. A vertical egg can withstand a lot of pressure because of it's shape. Turn that egg the same way you smash it on his head and I'm betting they break every time.
