Why Do People... Hate the Magic Kingdom?
VloĆŸit

- Is the Magic Kingdom a bad park? People certainly seem to think so. If you compare it to other castle parks, whether it be Disneyland or the versions in Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong or Shanghai, I can see why people might prefer those for a number of reasons. As someone who prefers Disneyland to magic Kingdom though, even I think that a lot of criticism for the park is overly harsh and contrarian, overlooking the park's strengths, which there are a significant amount of. Magic Kingdom many not have the best versions of rides like Big Thunder Mountain or It's a Small World, but they are definitely unique. I also think that the park has the best versions of certain rides, which includes the Jungle Cruise, the Haunted Mansion and, divisively, even Space Mountain. This isn't to mention all the exclusive attractions to the park like the Hall of Presidents or the Carousel of Progress. So, weirdly, I'm going to be dedicating a video just to defending the Magic Kingdom, because it really does deserve to be treated better than recent discourse has chosen to do.

Disney's current strategy: "PUT AN IP ON IT! MAKE IT LAME!"
Yep... I've been seeing stuff about the expansions at Disneyland and asking if you're most excited about a Frozen land or a Tangled land or a Wakanda or whatever. None of the above. I'd be way more interested in seeing a more conceptual land like the old Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, etc. instead of a single-IP land. Even my favourite single-IP land - Mysterious Island in Tokyo - drew from a broader source of inspiration.
MORE SCREEEEEEENS!
Whatâs the wrong with IP?
If I go to Disney I want to be inside the movies I grew up with.
I truly donât understand the hate for IP.
@@solcarlosofficial Relying on IPs is a creative shortcut for the parks. This shows in the final product. For example, far more creative input went into Maelstrom than it did for Frozen Ever After.
@@solcarlosofficial I think it's less the IP itself, but more so that they're retheming beloved attractions with modern IP as quick cash grab. See: Maelstrom, Splash Mountain, Great Movie Ride, ect.
Also the fact that most of their IPs in recent years are bad
"And ruin one of my favorite rides"
I am with you on that brother. Its gonna be a very sad day when Dinosaur leaves us.
Fr dude and I freaking bleed Indiana Jones. I donât want it like this tho đ
I visited Dinosaur just after it opened and again in 2018. Still as good as ever, even though it shook my fillings loose. LOL
Has Dinosaur even been updated since it opened? Seems like every time I ride it nothing works properly and Iâm just sitting in darkness the entire time without being able to see anything else.
I know some people love it, but I really donât think itâs that good a ride.
My 2nd favorite ride đą
I loved Dinosaur and Iâm sad I wonât get a chance to ride it again before it goes. It sucks that universal will have the monopoly on Dinosaur themed rides in the parks. I would have loved for Disney to go for a more current understanding of Dinosaur and educational route as an update to the land that the Jurassic license doesnât allow over in Universal but alas that wonât be happening.
I wouldn't say the Magic Kingdom is a bad park, but the experience of going there is NOT at all what it once was. Poor maintenance, overcrowding, and Genie+ are all very real reasons why many people that go there feel as if it's a ripoff.
Overcrowding truly does make it bad. I went there last April and it was miserable. The heat is what it is - itâs central Florida - but the crowd was insufferable. Also, Genie+ is a convoluted and expensive pain in the ass.
Iâm so glad I was fortunate enough to have my first and only visit to WDW be right before the Chapek spiral really started. I barely have a desire to visit anymore.
The only Disney parks Iâve been to has been the âWorld and Epcot...many times â.
@@weston407 Genie+ is easy to use in my experience and compare it to $300+ for Universal Express that doesn't even help you get on Hagrid's faster.
It's not magical when you're crammed in with thousands of other people
I think the hate is that it should be the best Disney park in the world. There is no excuse for building a worse version of a ride here, it has the biggest crowds, most space and brings in the most money of any Disney park. It should be treated like the flagship park with interesting and unique attractions that are the best of disney.
Good point.
Problem is that will be impossible to ever achieve. Disneyland will always be the flagship Disney park for the simple reason it is the only park that Walt designed and stepped foot in. Magic Kingdom is cheapened because todayâs imagineers do not put their best into it. Slapping an IP on something is just that. And Disneyland is cheapened for the same reason. If it werenât for the fact of its history with Walt Disney it would be far inferior.
@@davids6898 I agree to an extent on the history view of the parks, but economically and publicly (especially internationally) magic kingdom should be the most important park. However, even if it is an IP ride they put in the park, it should be something other parks look at and think we would love that in our park.
@@wemdoelove Poseidon but even when he was trying to point out the good points it was always caveatted with this ride is actually better elsewhere.
The undeserved popularity of Magic Kingdom is exactly the reason Disney doesn't feel the need to make it better. People will go to Orlando no matter what because they make it a weeks long vacation so there's no need to give 100% on it. Whereas Anaheim is mainly a locals park, so Disney feels pressure to make it as good as it can be or the locals will take their money elsewhere.
Finally visited Disneyland this year as I have only visited Disney World since my youth. I have to say, Disney puts more love into Disneyland. It was cleaner, more detailed, and better ride experiences. The dark rides are a major plus to Disneyland as those are the soul of the park. When Magic Kingdom began removing those rides, it destroyed the charm it once had. Loved the fact many of the hollywood studios rides were in Disneyland. Hollywood studios alone is wasted money.
Agreed
i went to disneyland for the first time in 20 years despite only living 45min away and just want to know what's up with every dark ride now having extreme neon colors everywhere.
You forgot the food in Disneyland is a million times better than the mass produced slop served to the masses at MK
@@James_Ford4815do you mean the small rides like Peter Pan and Mr Toad etc? Theyâve always been painted in neon with blacklights so it looks closer to the cartoon and a lot of it hides the machinery that doesnât glow under the uv lights
What is this love of dark rides? Itâs like people love dark internal people movers. I donât find the lack of dark rides a problem at MK, I find the lack of thrilling rides a problem.
My Dad was 54 when I was born and had heart issues. At Magic Kingdom and Epcot there was plenty for us to ride or experience as a family. We went to Universal once and Dad spent most of the day sitting by himself waiting for us. We never went back because in that regard Universal was a waste of money. Disney will always hold a special place in my heart. It was a place all of us could have fun together. Dad died 6 years ago and Disney vacations are some of our fondest memories
I had a similar experience at Cedar Point, it was all extreme thrill rides or nothing. Disney is tops in fun for the whole family.
@@jonleibow3604 I see you guys are still Disney fans donât let the stupid negativity influence you guys into hating something you loved your whole lives
@@edwardjones1482 Don't let the reality that Disney doesn't care about you anymore get in the way of your memories of better times.
I agree about Universal vs. Disney, although Disney's falling into that trap. Horizons was replaced with Mission:Space, complete with barf bags in each pod. Guardians of the Galaxy replaced World of Energy. 20,000 Leagues under the Sea was replaced with a very lame 7 Dwarfs coaster which was built for Asian bodies; always fun to watch Americans try to shoehorn themselves into those tiny seats and restraints.
Universal has a lot of rides he can do especially studios tho ioa I agree
The one thing that makes Disneyland superior to Magic Kingdom overall: California's weather is unmatched compared to Florida's unpredictable weather and humidity.
I live in Orlando and I second that and Iâve never even been to Disneyland - itâs miserable here like 9 months out of the year đ„”đ„”đ„”
Yeah, Disneyland weather is absolutely a lot better. The people are much nicer and better behaved too.
Disneyland has less humidity, thus the churros are crunchier and tastier.
â@@LeftCoastDronesNot to mention, no alligators!
@@purplemist7 Yup.
It's so frustrating for Disney to continue to double down on strategies that are only harming their reputation and their stock prices đ
Odd take.
1) Their reputation is fine except among conservative trolls on social media.
2) Announcements that they are investing in the parks typically leads to stock prices dropping, not increasing. Shareholders don't give a rip about the parks.

@@weston407 Oh no. Not that.
Which strategies do you mean? If youâre referring to penny pinching and money grubbing then I agree.
@@Marden04 yup
While I admire you coming to the 'defense' of the Magic Kingdom - I think most visitors to Orlando will agree that WDW is no longer the attraction it used to be. With the opening of Epic Universe, I think people will be putting the Universal Parks at the top of their list - and only visit WDW if they have time and money left over. BTW, I don't think it is necessary for you to keep repeating the phrase ' in my opinion ' - I think most of us realize that these videos ARE your opinion.
I'm 100% sure Disney is shitting itself as opening day for Epic Universe gest closer and closer.
Once the 2023 TEA report comes out, I think that there'll be an interesting discrepancy in attendance numbers between MK and Disneyland. Last summer was pretty light and this one seems to be shaping up to be much worse, if what travel agents are reporting is correct.
Anybody that frequently visits both universal and disney knows that universal isn't even close to the quality of disney in any way... Except if you're talking about sickening screen rides and underwhelming rushed theming. But universal fans keep making the mistake of pretending, like universal even tries to achieve the same quality....They don't... their whole thing is Just to get the things open as fast as possible and then change them out every few years. They have surprisingly few legacy attractions that anybody cares about after the first few years.
While I agree that Epic Universe will take a good chunk of Disney's market share, to say that people will ONLY go to Disney if they have time left is...delusional. The target audience of the fantastical and thrilling Epic Universe is very different than the target audience of Disney's princess and cutesy theme. Let's also be aware that Epic Universe is a 2 day at most singular park, there will be plenty of time for family's on week long vacations to split their time between the 2 parks.
@@Jay-wk9xj But Epic Universe could open the door for Universal in a significant way - because lots of people keep getting priced out of WDW each year and go to Universal instead. WDW is increasingly becoming a park for the rich now.
The hate is overblown imo, but I can see why people donât like it as much. When you compare it to Disneyland, itâs clear thatâs got a little more love from the company than Magic Kingdom. The rides primarily, but also just how preserved itâs been, even in its theming. Magic Kingdomâs Fantasyland is pretty boring when you see how Disneyland has theirs. Also, the crowds have gotten so insane as of late. Last time I went I only got to do like 5 or 6 rides tops đ as a kid we coulda gotten the whole park done in a day, but not anymore. So poor crowd management is another issueâŠ
I still enjoy all the neat little details tho, like the ones you pointed out here :)
Why I hate it is that it's so miserable to get to (I don't think I've ever ridden the monorail where it didn't stop on the track for 10 minutes). Also it's SO FULL of strollers it's obnoxious and ruins the charm.
I'm an AP holder and the only time I go to MK is if someone is visiting and bribes me lol
Here's hoping the huge expansion will help solve crowds, but according to rumors, the "largest expansion in MK history" is only going to have like four rides, one of which is a clone from California, and then they're also potentially rethemeing the entirety of Frontierland and Liberty Square, which would close off a huge chunk of the park, AND they may be filling in the Rivers of America, which gets rid of two attractions right there. I have no clue how closing rides and spending a decade just to build four is gonna solve capacity issues lmao
If you can go to both of them to the extent that you can compare them, you're pretty lucky.
As Rolly Crump said, âIt was a lot of good architectural pieces, but I looked at that and thought to myself, âWhat the hell is going on here?â Disneyland has charm. Disneyland freaking hugs you and kisses you! When you go to Disney World and you see the castle, you want to genuflect ... and that disturbed me.â
While I donât agree with him fully, I do think MK is really missing that personal touch, and the good qualities are ruined by the horrendous overcrowding.
Disneyland AND Disney world seriously need a park capacity limit, and to just start turning people away or saying "PARK IS NOW FULL, TRY AGAIN IN 4 HOURS" - There is not enough space, and even if there was no ride could run enough to get 15,000 people through in a few hours. There seems to be a serious lack of communication and common sense from Disney Parks and corporate. It's going down fast.
Animal Kingdom is our favorite park! It has the perfect mix of rides, shows, streetmoshere, and great food- not to mention animal experiences & animation classes. Every detail is meticulously executed. With the subtle addition of Joe Rohde on the payroll again it seems they are committed to making this expansion as smooth as possible. (People were very opposed to pandora & look what we got!)
I still hate the idea of removing Dinoland, but I can't complain about Rohde being back. It still remains to be seen how much of a role he will have though.
@@PoseidonEntertainmentIf they retheme DinoLand to South America, I think it would be really clever to keep some version of Dinosaur intact. Carnotaurus is a South American animal!
@@PoseidonEntertainment I don't have a problem with them getting rid of Dinoland as it was always poorly implemented, but they should use the opportunity for something big and major...but they're not. The right thing would have been to keep the dinosaur theming and go over-the-top with it.
Nothing will ever top riding Carousel of Progress in MK. One of my favorite attractions with the best original song, itâs a must every time Iâm at the park.
Too bad Trump is in it. It ruins the experience to see that orange buffoon.
I donât know if anyone has ever mentioned it but I love the choice of background music on these videos.
I always put a lot of effort into trying to find something that fits
@@PoseidonEntertainment i appreciate the effort!
The best part of MK is that you can take a vintage wooden boat from the Polynesian to get there. Such a cool way to arrive at the park. I also appreciate that you can go in and ride the Haunted Mansion all year. Between the closures for the overlay and the overlay itself, riding OG haunted Mansion at DL is actually pretty difficult for a visitor
If you're staying at an MK resort then the transportation is great. unfortunately though if you're coming from off property or driving from another resort, getting there and back from the ttc is a nightmare with crowds and lines
@@cosmicthunder25 we were not staying at that resort. Anyone can walk through and use the transportation if they want to. It does take time compared to DL, but we enjoyed the experience.
@@Spoonfight that is true, though walking access from Poly to ttc was blocked when I was there last fall due to construction of the giant ugly hotel they're building there
OMG I hate the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay so much. It puts the unadulterated Haunted Mansion down for half the bloody year. You get a window of March to August to actually ride it before they make it Christmasy.
HEY PE - thanks for another great video essay. I absolutely love what you do! But I answered this question before even watching the video and you never explored the #1 reason in my mind: the crowds!!! I don't know when you got your b-role, but I cannot remember the last time I was in MK without it being shoulder to shoulder. When you add all of the context of your video together, and then wait in line on average 45-60 minutes to experience any of said attractions, plus an hour wait to get your hotdog at Casey's Corner, then a 30 minute wait to find a table to eat, then another hour wait for an attraction, plus a 20 minute wait to buy your souvenir, and a 30-60 minute wait to get on transportation simply to leave the park: you've realized that you've spent close to $200 to dedicate more than 80% of your day to waiting in lines. It leaves me with a feeling or defeat and resentment, and that is why MK is my least favorite park. But Hate?? I don't think I'll ever "hate" a Disney park.
When have you been going? The summer was pretty dead for WDW last year and travel agents seem to indicate that this year will be worse judging from the lack of interest that they're seeing. Fall appears to be the busy time for the parks in Florida now.
@@PoseidonEntertainment I tend to visit the central Florida area during the autumn, Christmas/New Years, or at Easter hahahaha I know, I deserve the crowds LOL but if what you say is true I will have to test the heat and try vacationing this summer instead.
The Disney parks parking lots have been very quiet in the past couple of years. VERY quiet. Even driving through on holiday weekends, they're nowhere near as full as they used to be.
Riding the monorail and/or ferryboat to the park is fine. However it's an absolute nightmare when leaving the park after the fireworks or at park closing.
Yeah agreed. I would rather just sit on a bench in the park than deal with the mass of people trying to leave. There are clearly way more people than the transportation was designed to handle.
Exit crowds are worst at DisneylandParis. The mobs push and shove to squeeze onto buses or metro trains.
Hey Poseidon entertainment. I loved the video today and how you attempted to portray all sides to this issue fairly. Iâm glad that there are CZcamsrs like you who try to look at all perspectives of these parks to give the most fair and nuanced opinion on the topic. We donât have enough people like you in the theme park space and I canât wait to see what you do next! đ„
I think MK has something that none of the other parks do: location. Itâs in this secluded, swampy forest. Kind of an exotic environment already. And then you see this castle in the distance, and as you said, that builds anticipation.
I agree. The surrounding area is really important to the experience. I also enjoy leaving the park for a bit and exploring the area for food and going back later in the night.
This also benefits the air quality too. As someone with minor asthma, the congestion around Disneyland was terrible for me and I got a terrible cough from it.
âI donât understand why people enjoy going to EPCOT at all anymore.â
Oooooooh this oneâs for me. EPCOT actually is arguably my favorite park, not because of the rides (though they play a part), but because of how its planned and the history behind it. Iâm getting my graduate degree in Urban and Regional Planning, and EPCOT has always fascinated me because of my love for planning human spaces. EPCOTâs history as a Garden Movement city shows its problems⊠some really major⊠but EPCOT always has been the most fascinating because it represents a continual effort towards international cooperation and planning for humans and communities. Its one of the few parks in the US where if you pay attention to it enough, you begin learning a lot more than just whatâs on Living with the Land and such. The whole park is a unique experience itself BECAUSE of its history and clear efforts baked in by Walt himself as part of his original EPCOT vision.
That's why I don't like the park though. Iger is working hard to erase the history of the park, turning it into another "Disney Adventure World" with some vague, "magic of possibility" corporate buzzphase flavor.
While I donât hate MK and I think the hate is over-excessive, I can agree that it has its ups and downs (mostly downs throughout the past few years), and I can see why people prefer Disneyland more nowadays.
Under the policies, I do think it's still a fun park. I just wish that it got more meaningful investment.
DL is Walt's ONLY park and the REAL Magic Kingdom. Walking in his footsteps is priceless.
DisneySea in Tokyo to me is generally the only Disney theme park (and perhaps only theme park in the world, period) that is worth checking out. That's due in part to the ethos of its owner, the Oriental Land Co. In turn, the Disney Co's park next to Disneyland, which opened the same year as DisneySea, reflects the creative incompetence and financial stinginess of corporate Disney, not just in 2024 but going back over 20 years.
Better see it soon then. The OLC are slowly but surely sliding down the same path as Disney is
"If you have Disneyland, why go to Magic Kingdom"?
Proximity? Have we forgotten that proximity is a thing? I'm on the East Coast. Specifically New York State. So, I'm a lot more likely to visit Magic Kingdom at Disney World than ever set foot in the State of California. So, I'll take what I can get. Hell, Disney could set up a rinky-dink fake Disney park in an abandoned mall in Massachusetts or something and I'd be happy with it because I'd be more likely to visit that than either Florida or California.
Iâve lived in central Florida my whole life and havenât been to Disneyland for that reason - I would love to visit it one day though

I absolutely LOVED this kind of positive video. Do more of those if you can, please! I've been less into your videos talking about Disney recently because I was starting to see too many negatives on Disney stuff, so I think that also bringing positive subjects (even if attached to nostalgia) helps bring more balance to the channel.
Been watching your videos for like 2 years now and they are truly something else. Greetings from Brazil!
Visited Disneyland last year and struck how much better than WDW in many waysm
Growing up going to Disneyland, the Matterhorn coming into view was the big tease. I always loved that feeling hitting Harbor Blvd. from Ball Rd. Plus, you can see the Matterhorn from the 57 freeway.
My issue with Magic Kingdom is that it used to be soooo much better. When I visited a few years ago it just made me sad. I could see remnants of things I remembered that were really cool and unique and represented the pinnacle of what WDP was capable of , but are now gone and replaced with stuff that is boring and uninspired.
I've never been to Disneyland but hope to in the next year or so.. but I absolutely LOVED Magic Kingdom when I went there for my first time in 2022... with no basis for comparison I totally felt the magic and it made me feel like a kid again. Pirates was easily my favourite ride.. which makes me look forward to Disneyland even more since I hear it's longer and better!!
Disneyland arguably blows MK out of the water! I hope you enjoy it, my favorite ride is also Pirates⊠in Disneyland.
It should be noted that this is all comparison. No Disney park (Besides MAAYYBEEE Walt Disney Studios in Paris) is outright bad, itâs just not as good as others, or how it was before.
But yes, the park is still amazing
@@officialmonarchmusic That's pretty much what I hear from everyone lol.. which makes me pretty pumped for Disneyland. I love Disneyland so much more than WDW in general, you really feel the love in Disneyland park
Splash mountain in FL also had more critters and scenes in the outside parts. When I rode the one at Disneyland I was surprised that the outdoor sections just had fake rock work.
I hope they add stuff during the re-theme
Im a floridian, and I've not been to DL, but from the plenty of videos I've seen of DL and comparing it to MK, DL is better. MK is too big with little to offer for its heavy crowds, the park is HOT literally đ little trees or cover. They need to add more rides and take away VQ!
Same for all of the "new" things Disney's rolled out in the Florida parks. It's obvious they were designed by California people because there's no shade, no trees, and nowhere to sit and cool off.
I think that part of the reason that Magic Kingdom gets so much hate is that, at least from my experience, it is the Disney World park that feels the most hamstrung by the replacement of FastPass with Genie+. In other parks, you may only ride 4 or 5 attractions known a day, but they have few enough attractions that you probably got to ride most of what you wanted to anyway, and you finish early enough to go to Disney Springs or hop to Epcot for dinner. In Magic Kingdom, you only ride 4 or 5 attractions if you spend all day there and are willing to walk away from the most in-demand rides, and you end up feeling like you barely did anything, as there is so much stuff you had to skip. Itâs to the point where you really need to pay obscene money for one of those guided tours just to get the most out of a single day.
When I went to update my footage of the park the other day, it wasn't too busy but Winnie the Pooh had a 60 minute wait. That's the perfect example of how Genie+ just destroys the lines.
Just came back to your channel after a while and I gotta say great vid! I really enjoyed it
Insanely crowded, super expensive, predatory fastpass system, hardly any stand out rides, IP's milked dry over decades... To name a few? They should restrict the number of tickets that are sold on a single day to keep crowds under control and bring back the complimentary fastpass system, at the least. Whats the point at looking at individual rides if everything around it is just terrible? Plus, I dont think " forcing" you through 5 star $600/night hotels on your way to the entrance is very customer friendly. Showing the peasants a glimpse of a better experience really starts your day on the wrong foot, especially since you've already spend an arm and a leg to be there in the first place. But sure, that opportunity to buy a mediocre $13 hotdog brings back that warm and fuzzy feeling.
Even with the reservation system crowds were bad
@@cosmicthunder25 Just saying that Disney themselves are in full control of how many people a day get access to their parks.
Wdw is insane lol
I think out of any Disney park, MK could probably get away with having a reservation system. It's majorly a tourist park, so people are already planning their trips out in advance. If they limit the amount of guests it could really help the park. Maybe make it so annual passholders don't need a reservation too though, so that way locals have a reason to keep buying their annual passes?
Iâm going to get so much flak for this, but in my opinion, EPCOT center in its current form, is the only good WDW park.
I went within the last year and I think for me out of the 4 parks we went to, (both universals, Magic Kingdom and Epcot) Magic Kingdom was easily the least liked.
The biggest reason why I can easily identify is ride condition. Its extremely clear the rides are not being well maintained and many parts of animatronics and lighting ques just flat out don't work. You see it the most in fantasy land. And no joke, every single omni mover we went on stopped mid ride at least twice. Haunted mansion being the king with 6 times...in one ride.
That combined with the long wait times, large crowds and not many rides for older adults, it leaves the park feeling very...hollow.
And as mentioned, I don't like how long it takes to get to the park itself, especially if your off property as having to go through multiple monorails eats a lot of time. Doubly stressful if your one of the first groups for say Tron.
That and your paying Disney prices which just adds to the bafflingness of how the park is in that rough of shape.
â@enchantingkatie I do get that. At the same time though, when it happens on every omni mover ride usually multiple times during a single ride it does zap you out of it completely. I dont know if I was just unlucky but the amount of times it happen during my trip felt way higher than similar rides at other parks.
Magic Kingdom does need to address stroller parking.
and the explosion of "Rascals".
I agree, no other park has stroller issues like MK. Disneyland certainly doesn't.
@@PoseidonEntertainment maybe in addition to height restrictions, they should implement weight ones? LOL I've found my photos from the Russian space park. Just need to digitise them now....
Great video! Space mountain today may seem lame to people but to me it's one of the best ever. When I was a kid it was as amazing. From the que to the ride it has always been one of my favorites.
The two superior elements of Disneylandâs Mansion are the stretching room going down and the Holiday overlay. Tokyo resolved the latter, but the going down adds a lot to the scene. I agree with Small World, mainly because of the lack of a flume. We always called The Magic Kindom Bizarro-Disneyland.
The hate certainly does seem to be excessive. Although I'm considering Universal for my next Florida visit, rather than WDW.
Unless you like screens, prepare to be disappointed. I am a passholder to both and have been going to both for decades. Universal just lacks the ride diversity or the joy of just walking around the park. There are some good rides a Universal, but there's also a lot of mediocre or bad rides and many that need maintenance.
IOA has four really good rides. Studios has two really good rides. The rest are okay or bad. Well, or poorly maintained like Cat in the Hat.
I say go for it. The attractions arenât the only thing that determines how good a park is imo. While Studios could definitely use more coherent theming and more creative attractions, the atmosphere of both parks is worth it. Some of the entertainment there is fun too! The Wizarding World lands are works of art when it comes to themed lands. Thereâs many interactive elements in Islands too that are pretty fun. Tho I am a huge Universal fan so I may have some bias đ
@councilofkarens729 do universal if you will go to epic universe
@@callanmischler2819 I'm considering next year or 2026, after it opens.
Definitely give Universal a try. There's not as much diversity in attractions as Disney, as Universal is more thrill-focused. But unless you have small children in your party (there aren't many rides at all with no height requirements), then you will still have a great time.
Disneyland is certainly the better park in many ways but Magic Kingdomâs Space Mountain is my favorite Disney attraction of all time
Magic Kingdom is still the best park at WDW, but losing Splash really was a big blow. It really was âour Piratesâ compared to DL. TBA might end up okay, but the differences between the Florida and California versions wonât be as noticeable as before. It also seems more geared to the Disney + show.

For me, the dealbreaker about Magic Kingdom is the water quality (and its nearby hotels, including the Contemporary). It tastes so awful and ruins the fountain beverages as well. Tried to get some tap water, awful. Tried to get a Coke from Casey's Corner, awful. You'd have to always drink bottled beverages to even make it through the park. Not to mention the whole Genie+ experience has left a bad taste in my mouth, especially for rides in Magic Kingdom itself. Nothing worse than having to pay an additional Lightning Lane fee for a ride you want to go on, only for it to shut down for rain. Worst part, I tried doing it AGAIN on the last day, but yet again it rained. At least I got refunded for that, but it still sucks.
On a recent visit to the resort, I realized how much I like World Showcase. If I had to do it again, I'd probably spend most of my time in Epcot, but unfortunately would have to take a couple trips to Magic Kingdom simply cause there's just too much material you have to do there (and maybe a half-day at Hollywood Studios, skipping Animal Kingdom).
As a Great Lakes native who tried to live in Brevard for 18 months and had the miserable experience of dealing with Central Floridian tap water...there is something *wrong* with the water there.
I've never had a problem with it. It tastes different, but not undrinkable
I can't say that I dislike Florida water. If you're used to it, you're used to it
It's just Florida water, bruh. It'll make you stronger. But fr, the first time my girlfriend and I had Florida water from a water fountain we were kind of scared to drink it because we didn't know that's just how it tastes here haha
@@PoseidonEntertainment Well my problem is that it tastes awful to me. It doesn't even affect the rest of the resort; the water at any other park or hotel on-site tasted perfectly fine. There must be something funky about the opening day places.
Tomorrowland, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise, HOP all make MK great
Disney: slap an IP on this low budget ride, get merch moola
Universal: use this IP to create a detailed world and immerse the audience, get merch moola
Disney rides aren't low budget, which is concerning, because they often feel like they are regardless.

Another beautifully done video. I've been a Disney park geek since I went to Disneyland in '89 when I was 8... so a long time. Even though I could only go every five years or so, already by 12 I was reading park history zines like The E Ticket, and sending away for maps of the other parks, etc.
So it was always a dream for me to go to WDW, but living in BC Canada, just so much easier and cheaper to go to DL. I finally went to WDW about five years ago--and a bit to my surprise I ended up spending more time than I had planned at the MK. It was great to finally go to EPCOT but, as you say, already most of the stuff I had grown up being excited to see was gone. DS was alright but I spent about half a day there. AK was beautiful but, again, not somewhere to spend a lot of time at. So I ended up really appreciating the MK *except* in my case it was *mostly* just like a lesser Disneyland, which I'd been to numerous times. The main enjoyment for me, I hate to say, was that a lesser DL is still a great vacation for me. But hardly a reason to go back any time soon.
But that said, for what it is, I agree with the thesis of this video, that it still has an awful lot to recommend it.
It was nice to go to Disneyland back in the 80's to late 90's no crowds!!
That was super freaking awesome! I really enjoyed this video and how you highlighted both the positive and negative aspects of the park.
Yeah, I went to Disney World a couple weeks ago, and I never want to visit a Disney theme park again. Iâll still watch videos like yours, though!
Me too. Went 7 times in different years, but won't come back. Disney destroyed itself.
Me too and I haven't been back to Disneyland since 2014.
I think people need to realise that not everyone is a local and if youâre travelling 16+ hours to get to the USA, and you want to go to Disney, youâre going to pick the park/s that have the most to offer size wise.
As an Australian who has been to both, I love Disneyland but for pure value - Disney World was my pick
I did enjoy the more positive tone of this video! Although I agree with most of your criticisms of the direction Disney has taken its parks, I still enjoy the parks immensely. And the fun Iâve had at the parks is what made me interested in your type of content in the first place. Itâs always great to have a reminder of why I keep going to the parks and recognize the impressive theming, rides, and experiences!
Thank you for talking about the scents! No one talks about those and its my favourite part of Pirates bumping it up HUGE in points imo.
Which makes me wonder, why not bring them to Disneyland's Pirates? Seems like a weird discrepancy.
My biggest gripe about magic kingdom is the complete lack of sunshading as well as shelter from rain. Magic kingdom has been open for decades at this point and yet it is basically a ruined day for you if you happen to get rained on there. All the rides are pretty much outdoors except for a very few handful of them and all of them Get shut down immediately once it starts raining. Magic kingdom notoriously has a huge flooding issues when it rains too much and they have never fixed it. There is a massive lack of actual shelter in areas due to a lot of the stores and food areas being very small or just barely small enough overhangs to protect the large groups of people that are there.
Compared to epcot, where there are large gift shops or large areas to stay sheltered in when it rains, Magic kingdom is Practically an outdoors only experience most of the time you're there.
I went two years ago with a moderately sized group of friends And we were even prepared for the rain yet We all still got soaking wet and our feet soaking wet as well Due to the flooding in many areas of the park. If anything the cast members there as well are the least nice of all the other parks had been to over the years And they actively do not help guests when they need it unless it's a medical emergency. Not one crew member offered any help or protection to any guests even families with babies in strollers against the rain where on multiple Occasions when I've gone to epcot i've literally seen cast members take off their own ponchos and give them to park guests to protect them from rain before.
I remember the central hub used to have a TON of trees but they cut them all down to make it easier to see the castle projection shows.
this is pretty inconvenient in a place like florida, actually lol. it's either hellishly sunny or rainy.
Is.. that not an issue at any park?
Plus when your a florida local like me, you get used to it.
Rain just means shorter lines :3
Better than Cedar Faire. The only areas in the parks with shade and seating are the designated smoking zones.
Another reason it's maddening that, for example, they have so few Fantasyland dark rides compared to DL, etc.
100% agree with it having the best version of Space Mountain in particular. The ride being a bit rougher and less refined is part of the experience and what makes it enjoyable. The atmosphere of the queue and its stellar background music is another highlight along with the counterpart dioramas as you exit.
Yeah, I would love if Tomorrowland embraced the sci-fi aesthetic of its post-show walkway.
Always love when you upload
Keep it up!
Love all your videos man but... we just got back from California, we live in Orlando, and prefer Magic Kingdom to Disneyland. We loved DL but when we went back to MK it just flowed better. Can't wait for more videos.
Anyone who seriously thinks Magic Kingdom is the worst Disney park has clearly never been to DCA 1.0 or Disney Studios Paris.
Don't you mean "Disney Adventure World Park"? lmao
@@charliemacsart That name is a nothing burger, lol. It's not going to fix the park at all.
@@pierce7993 I know, it's such a bad name lol
I donât think that people really mean that. This is the name for worst park in FLORIDA, or the worst one in AMERICA at the most
I know people give Disneyland a lot of crap these days (and a lot of it is deserved) but itâs still undeniably the best Disney Park in the US. With how small it is compared to Walt Disney World, it manages to have more rides and entertainment overall. Thereâs no need for 4 separate parks because you can do everything you want in one day at Disneyland. I could enjoy a whole week at Disneyland whereas I couldnât spend an entire day in a park like Epcot or Animal Kingdom. Also the weather in Florida is absolutely terrible.
Agreed. When I travel to Disneyland, it's often for a week and I never really get tired of it. The few attractions that I like at DCA are a plus, but I spend most of my time in Disneyland.
Agree completely. We just came back from a five night visit to Disneyland/California adventure. Although the arrival day we only rode about four t attractions and had dinner , the other four days we did rope drop and stayed til at least 11 or midnight. And that is at 76. The ease of going from park to park and land to land is just effortless and the weather really helps. We had a couple of rainy days, a couple of very sunny days where grizzly peak was very welcome and a middle of the road weather day but all better than most Florida weather! Iâve just had days when making it around Epcot was a slog or even up the hill to tron was tough but I just felt the variety in close proximity in California couldnât be beat. We even watched fireworks from a bench near small world and couldnât help comparing it with the pushing and shoving at magic kingdom.
Also Disneyland has the better version of Fantasmic which wasn't mentioned in the video.
You know itâs a good day when Poseidon posts đ€©
Please be quick with a Liberty Square video! Your brief description of the land here made me think you can absolutely do it justice!

@@ftrwrwbg Carousel of Progress is a classic though, and the only attraction at WDW that Walt directly had a hand in. Buzz Lightyear is good but it could use an update imo

Preferring to hop on that instead of Tron? I canât understand it. For some reason the slowest and dullest rides are always the ones the hardcore people want to keep for all time. Knowing a lot of these people are ones who grew up with the parks like I did itâs weird to try and understand where the line is drawn and what can be replaced with a new ride and what canât.

Maybe I'll have to go and try something else. I've been a few times and have found it consistently disappointing for the hype that it has.
I haven't watched the video yet but I can bet it's:
Crowds
More kid-focused attractions
"Outdated" attractions
Having to take boat/bus/mono
"Inferior" versions of rides at Disneyland
The monorail and ferry is the best part of getting there
@@RossBaby91 it was great once upon a time, now it takes forever
It's funny how every point you listed minus crowds was stated as a positive aspect of MK in the video lmao
I think some of the things you mentioned are positives. The changes made to the park only made it worse
I think that your guesses might be way off lol
I think the reason i dislike Magic Kingdom so much (aside from the obvious crowding issues) is simply due to the Seven Seas Lagoon.
What was once a way to fully immerse yourself in the world of the Magic Kingdom has become a cumbersome and tetious slog to get in and out of the park. It puts a major damper on the beginning and ending of a day, and the last thing i want after being in a 8+ hour day in the heat is another hour+ wait to even get to my car.
A symptom of the crowds
I agree, it's so overcrowded, that its become clear how over-taxed the transportation systems are. Sometimes I'll walk to the Contemporary and take the resort monorail, or when it was possible before the DVC Polynesian tower construction, I would just walk, even if it ultimately took a lot longer. I would prefer to take my time than to wait in sweaty crowds full of obnoxious people.
A positive Disney video from Poseidon?! Love it!! Now do one for EPCOT, I dare you heheheâŠ
In all seriousness, I enjoy your content a lot and I wholeheartedly agree to look at both perspectives of the state of Disney parks-the good and the bad. I admit MK is my least favorite of the 4 WDW parks. After growing up with the California park throughout my childhood, I came to MK in my mid 30s and was expecting a better version but left slightly disappointed. While there are some rides that are better in MK and some are better in DL, you reminded me that I tend to take for granted how well the theming is in MK. Which Disney has historically done well at, especially in their castle parks. Now itâs making me think what would it take for MK to jump higher in my personal park preferences for WDW. (Side note: I really wish Disney didnât stop making those mini Fantasyland dark rides because those are so fun to ride when I go back to Disneyland in CA.)
I love Magic Kingdom's space mountain. It feels like you're getting shot and slung around in a 10x10 ft tangle of track in a box. (In the best way) My group stayed in the park way late, and I got to ride it like three times with little to no wait. Only ride in my entire Disney trip that caused a wardrobe malfunction (broke my decorative pants chain thingy)
Disneyland's Space Mountain is awesome, but it's perhaps a little too predictable.
If they proceed with the rumored re theming at MK I will be completely done with that park. Epcot is over. I keep my pass just for AK but spend most of my park days at Universal. And Iâm not happy to say that. There was a magic that only Disney had but that genie has escaped itâs bottle. Not to be found again. At least in Orlando.
I donât get why everyone thinks those ideas would be bad enchanto and coco have potential and people have been wanting a villains land for years
Despite being decades older Disneyland simply has the superior versions of many attractions. Pirates/Space Mountain/Haunted Mansion/Autopia/Small world all definitively worse and MK barely even has any Fantasyland dark rides to speak of. MK also has quite possibly the worst food of any Disney park which is saying something. I get they have to deal with the greatest volume of guests but would it kill to have quick service that isn't county fair trash tier food anywhere?
I will say MK is much more equipped to handle massive crowds with its spacing/layout and generally has better shows/fireworks, but it also loses points for generally being a nightmare to leave any time after dusk
All that being said, I don't really disagree with the thesis of your video. The park is consistently enjoyable for mostly everyone and doesn't have a major glaring issue that Epcot/AK/HS suffer from. Also tomorrowland is just better in general with the functional peoplemover and all.
Also appreciate your point about getting to the park being much better than Disneyland. Bay Lake is absolutely beautiful and kind of acts as a buffer between the outside world and the park no matter how you get there. Disneyland's parking decks and walking through the miniscule Downtown Disney just don't compare
Magic Kingdom food is particularly bad and it's always funny when I see someone refer to Columbia Harbor House as a "hidden gem". Also, people love to praise Skipper Canteen and I've always found it underwhelming for the amount of love it weirdly seems to get. I haven't eaten everywhere in the park, but the only place that seems like a good value is Liberty Tree Tavern, which has been consistent for the price.
When I went to Disney World for the first time (as a lifelong california resident) I was both blown away and deeply dissatisfied with my experience with the parks. Epcott was this place I'd only ever heard of from my father in stories of him going as a kid, and seeing it for myself made me relive old childhood fantasies of going. For my mother and I who were there it was a grand experience in food.
We did a park a day over the course of 5 days, and I won't go into the whole trip but magic kingdom ended up being the only park we left early. That was due to the fact that
1. It was packed to the brim
2. I didn't fit in half the rides as a 6'4" young man.
I think it pales in comparison to disneyworld, and for my birthday this year I'll be at tokyo disney, so if I remember I'll try and update this comment with my thoughts from there.
W for picking florida space mountain as ur fav. that ride has a unique dated charm to it but in the best way. i hope they never retheme it and mess it up bc itâs perfect
I like the ending hallway too, especially the Horizons reference. It's a vibe that the rest of Tomorrowland needs to get on board with.

DAMNNN i think you are genuinely 1st LMAO
The smells in the MK pirates is everything. Don't forget the gunpowder smell when you see Barbosa and the general Bromine smell
This was an excellent video. Honestly, regarding the castle parks, I definitely understand why Disneyland is seen as the better experience overall (I've yet to experience Walt's Magic Kingdom, being from the East Coast, but the Magic Kingdom we have here is something pretty special to me), but you are absolutely right in the Magic Kingdom having a lot of unique experiences to offer on it's own. One thing I do want to say is that, regarding the railroad, I do find the back stretch along Florida Swampland to be really neat, as it's some of the last vestiges of that on Walt Disney World Property, so getting to see what the Magic Kingdom once was in it's most "natural" state feels pretty neat. Plus, I think Walt Disney World may be on track for a new golden age here soon, with a creative back in charge of Imagineering, I think we might see a lot of things change at Walt Disney World for the better.
I'm really not optimistic about what will be revealed at D23 at all. Disney needs to stop spending money on parks until Iger leaves and I don't agree at all that Imagineering is going to start producing great stuff.
6:55 The short that Casey's corner was themed after is also inspired by the poem "Casey at the Bat" by Ernest Lawrence Thayer
Yeah, I do like that the restaurant isn't just exclusively an IP tie-in, but has actual culture behind it.
WDW is fun from time to time, and the weather doesn't bother me too much unless it's wildly humid Ă_Ă! Disneyland does have alotta unique cool stuff i love seeing it :D
but I deffo enjoyed this vid and your opinions about all this! Great vid!

@@PoseidonEntertainment That would be cool also you're so good at finding and pointing out the little details that parks use in their theming and set dressing and World Showcase comes from the last era of Disney where it felt like they cared about that stuff.

What an incredible video, Poseidon! I absolutely love DINOSAUR, so I'm with you there.
DHS is my least favorite WDW park, but MK is second. DAK is my favorite and EPCOT remains second.
Lots of interesting MK points though. I absolutely love the Hall of Presidents, by the way.
I strongly agree that Haunted Mansion in Magic Kingdom is better than the one in Disneyland. The scale at Disneyland feels bigger to me however, the Magic Kingdom version just has more both in the queue and within the attraction
Magic kingdom is my favorite park! We always make sure to eat at Caseyâs corner!
Hopefully iâm able to get a trip to Japan in the next year or so!
I certainly enjoyed going once in the off season when i was able yo cheese the old fast pass system but I don't think I'll ever go back.
Disney world still holds a place in my heart due to me not visiting Disneyland until I was 14. Also growing up in the Atlanta area, we always would drive down. Magic kingdom was always the first and last park we did to bookmark the trip and we did that last December for Christmas and I swear, I felt 10 again. Idk if itâs nostalgia blinding me from some of these problems or I just genuinely enjoyed it. Probably just take this opinion with a grain of salt since I donât go every year, but I loved magic kingdom still.
I have never been to and haven't had Interest of going to Disney since I was a kid. Kiddie land central, went to Universal last year with the school band, was stellar. They do what Disney can't
I still canât believe they put the hat box ghost by the endless hallway of all spots. If they canât put the animatronic in the attic they could easily find a spot following the seance, like in the cemetery.
Needless to say it conflicts with the narrative: Madame Leotaâs seance is supposed to call forth the spirits to materialize and take visible form.
Before you bring up the corpse in the coffin, said entity has a biological form, and even then the character is still mostly concealed for dramatic effect
I enjoy Disney, and I also see the points you make. As a person in the midwest, i am conflicted by disneyâs nostalgia, current bad decisions, and the states (cough cough Florida) where they are
pps: I've been An AP since 1982...back when they took your picture for your pass and you SIGNED IN at the Cast Member Entrance. :)
Everytime I try to get a Hotdog at Casey's, its impossible with the ridiculous wait times đ
In fairness, I don't ever go to parks when they're crowded, so I don't really see them at their worst. I imagine it's horrible in there.
Never got to eat there. And seating area is nonexistent. I dont count the small outdoor area.
So last week, I went to Universal's Islands of Adventure and then a few days later Disney's Magic Kingdom.
I guess as an adult who enjoys both themeimg AND thrill rides, you can't really compare the two IN MY OPINION.
At UIA I rode Velocicoaster for the first time. At Magic I rode Tron for the first time. One of these was amazing, and one was a big nothing.
my experience at magic kingdom was great because I was able to ride nearly every ride apart from the flat ones in a single day. I also wanted to visit it since I was a kid because the castle was larger than Disneyland (which ive visited more)
But my experience there makes me glad I live near Disneyland lol, I just wish they had Cosmic Rewind over here
Nice video. Glad to see a balanced perspective on WDW. One additional consideration in terms of comparing MK to Disneyland is Cinderella's Castle versus Sleeping Beauty's Castle. The MK version is superior because, while both have some internal storytelling elements, MK's version has Cinderella's Royal Table. While expensive, it is a unqiue and well-themed experience, especially good for kids, and pretty good food for the adults.
I haven't been, but, like all things MK, I've heard the food is awful lol
We went to WDW is 2022 and I dragged my kids to as many classic animatronics shows I as we could manage (Hall of Presidents, Carousel of Progress, etc). They are great. I am always nervous they will go away. In someways I feel they capture a more positive and aspirational take on what America is about than you can find anywhere else.
I always like seeing the mural while riding through the Contemporary Resort.
I absolutely agree with your opening statement regarding Hollywood Studios but I disagree regarding Epcot. I understand Epcot was initially focused on educational dark rides BUT with the rise of smartphones, that's a very difficult thing to make engaging these days. Epcot's overarching theme is progress and the world in which we live. In that sense, I still feel like Epcot still works as a whole.
I don't understand why smartphones have any effect on the effectiveness of the original rides. Yeah, you could look up historical transportation methods, but you'd be missing all the humor and specific artistic direction of World of Motion. Its thesis and support of that thesis are also different than what you would find scrolling through an article. The ride also had a specific, optimistic message about how the discipline of motion advances society.
Nothing about current Epcot says progress to me. It's becoming another "Disney Adventure World" that feels like a dead shell of a once great park. The core has turned into an Apple Store with extremely superficial references to real Epcot ideas, whether the city or the original park. The theme of the park has been marketed as "the magic of possibility", which is, what, a corporate buzzphrase?
@@PoseidonEntertainment World showcase is full of culture, entertainment, museums, and yes some Disney rides. But Rat and GFT fit their respective pavilions while FEA is a bad fit. Circle visions and American Adventure are great. The Land pavilion and Test Track fit the OG model as does the Seabase aquarium, Space 220, and SSE though it can use a refurb.
@@PoseidonEntertainment Because with smartphones, it becomes impractical for Epcot to consistently stay futuristic in terms of showcasing the latest technology. People's attention spans have also taken serious hits as well as the fact people don't want to sit through a history lecture while on vacation. I know there's audioanimatronics and a good script but there's a reason Test Track and Frozen Ever After have long queues while Spaceship Earth typically doesn't see that demand.
I've always seen the overarching theme of Epcot as "the world in which we live" with the front half being dedicated to technology and progress and the back half dedicated to the culture of the people who inhabit the world. I've never heard anyone else use "the world in which we live" so if you wanna disregard that idea altogether, so be it. That being said, Spaceship Earth, Living With The Land, Mission:Space and Test Track 2.0 all still feel very dedicated to Epcot's original intent.
In the case of Nemo and Guardians of the Galaxy, Disney needs to balance the fact that they are STILL a *Disney* theme park. I would make the case Cosmic Rewind, while not educating in any meaningful sense, still works fine in Epcot for me (and definitely better than Nemo) because they're selling the initial concept as a pavilion showcasing technology from another planet. Epcot for ages was written off as boring in terms of ride line up (and we can say as Disney parks fans WE loved Epcot for XYZ but the reality is, the general public didn't appreciate Epcot the way we did) and Guardians really helps combat that. I can forgive the ride for being not super dedicated to progress because it still feels blended well into the park. You can disagree with that. But that's my take.
I'm baffled by the hate that Journey of Water gets considering that it does make a meaningful attempt to deliver on the educational mission of Epcot. Plus, as a walking trail, it absorbs crowds without drawing in new ones. The Orlando parks seriously need more attractions in that style.
And I think Ratatouille, a movie that was very tied to French gourmet cooking culture was a perfect fit for the France Pavilion.
But hey, that's all just me.
My gf and I love the TTC, we love the whole experience every time we go as passholders
It's inconvenient, but also exciting. The ritual of getting there is a good part of the park experience.
growing up i always assumed i would inevitably make a pilgrimage to disney world. within the last half decade everything i've learned about it changed that. i can't imagine spending thousands to travel cross country and not get to see and do everything i went for
I like the detail of the brown strip of pavement in the middle of the street in Liberty Square. Gross historical fact, but fun detail. In the days before indoor plumbing people emptied their chamber pots by throwing the contents out the window . The streets were sloped inward so it all collected in the center to flow away.
I don't believe that's actually true. I think it's a decorative element that just happened to lend itself to that idea.
Though I donât always agree with what you present, you make well thought out arguments for/against your observations.
That being said, I have a *slight* disagreement with you on the Haunted Mansion. Though I do agree that the MK version is superior to the DL version, I definitely prefer the queue version of the painting and the busts at DL. Onride, the MK version passes by too quickly, whereas the DL version seems so much creepier walking past the paintings as they change in a more intimate setting, and especially when the busts follow you at such a slow walking pace.
I like how you also mentioned how the kinetic energy brings life to ANY area of the parks, especially the Tomorrowlands. That kinetic energy brings life , not only to the rides, but the whole area you happen to be in. Best example: the canoes. Something moving will always draw your eyes to something you may have never noticed before.
Great video!
I see your point about the HM queue. I'll disagree in that I do prefer the actual ride scenes, but I definitely see the merit of what you're saying.
