  • I’ll be reviewing a Husqvarna 450 Rancher Chainsaw today. We’ll take this out of the box and get it ready to cut some wood. After the unboxing I'm going outside to cut up some wet logs. This is a fallen black walnut tree incase anyone was wondering. My wife ended up making a bunch of sweet cutting boards from these. I hope you like these videos.

I just have to point out that you should never walk around while the chainsaw is running unless the chain brake is engaged and you are holding the saw so the blade is facing to your rear. This is an important basic safety rule you should get in the habit of doing. Only release the chain brake when you are in position and ready to cut.

Thanks for the heads up. Unfortunately I learned this lesson the hard way.

@@NicholsCounty Sorry to hear that. I didn't want to be a pest, but I cringe when I see people walking around trees with a running chainsaw across uneven terrain. When I began using a chainsaw, I had some older guys watching me and giving me criticism about things I was doing wrong. I'm really grateful for that. Then I watched this series on faller training that helped some more: czcams.com/video/i2Aktms_4Pg/video.html

No be a pest. It can save someone's life. My problem was right after I was sawing I would switch the chainsaw to the left hand and let it swing to my side while the chain was still moving. It cost me a pair a pants and not so bad cut. I'll be more vigilant with the chain brake. Thanks.

I have the 445 model, same saw as the 450 with a little less power. Some problems with the design are; the single bar nut is prone to loosening, the air filter is too small, and the chain brake is a wonky design. The saw starts easily when cold but can be a bear to start when hot. Overall it’s not a bad homeowner grade saw for the money. If you buy one try to but it from a equipment dealer rather than a big box store. BTW Craftsman saws are made by Husqvarna.

Some times when I stop it for a bit I have to re prime the gas and choke it to start it up. I'm sure you did that so, best to just try again inside until you figure it out. It's probably nothing.

Bought a 450 today. Started right up. Fantastic job. Stopped for a bit to clear the debris. Went back to start it and it would start then cut off. A thunder storm came in and forced me to stop. Any reason why I had some complications restarting?

On chainsaws like this I just bought one and I’ve never used one before so I was curious with the bar and chain oil reservoir does it automatically lubricated while using it or do you have to do something thr make it go from the reservoir to be used like a primer or something or does it just automatically lubricated in use once it’s filled

I've had my 450 rancher for about 5 years now. One of the toughest saws on the planet! Saw still runs great, recently though my new 572 xp has taken it's place. Anyhow I just wanted to let you know that you will burn that saw up really quick if you don't back off on the chain tension a bit. A saw should never ever bog like that @ initial startup after tensioning. An over tightened chain will cause the bar to heat up and the motor to work far harder than it's supposed to 😬. That's one way to grenade an engine. One correct way I learned is to start off with the bar nuts or nut with the 450 lightly snugged up, then pinch the tip of the bar and lift up. Without letting go, just barely bring the chain into contact with the bottom of bar. Then spin your scrench around and tighten up the nut. Before starting the saw, check to see if the chain slides nicely in the guides without any air gap on the bottom of the bar. Hope this helps. I'd hate to see such a nice saw throw a bearing due to an over tightened chain. 🙂 Thanks
