- White Woman Surviving The Largest Women's Prison in the Philippines | Free Documentary Bites
The "Correctional Institution for Women" is the oldest and largest women's prison in the Philippines, founded in nineteen thirty-one. Designed for one thousand PDLs - "persons deprived of liberty" - today there are about three times as many. Prisoners range from petty criminals to drug dealers, from murderers to gang members. The guards are outnumbered. Your best bet at keeping prisoners under control: Strict rules that everyone must adhere to. Over and over again there are checks, to ensure no one has managed to escape. One hundred percent security is impossible! The inmates are allowed to deal with tools, gas-cannisters and knives. All potentially lethal weapons.
"The bedrooms and living quarters, the so-called "dorms", are spread over several buildings. Among the inmates are also so-called ‚High Value‘ PDL's‘. A huge compound, full of hardened criminals. In a jail where just a few dozen correction officers watch over several thousand prisoners, who roam freely during the day. For keeping control, the guards even work together with privileged inmates, that are allowed to punish the other ones.
This episode of Behind Bars tells not only his story, but also that of the inmates, and the environment of the prison and shows in impressive pictures how life behind bars works.

She has a surprisingly positive attitude for her circumstance.
She had to accept the reality of her situation, that she put herself in.
@alanguages most whitegirls that in prison for drugs in The Philippines are human traffic victims!
The guard is just off camera with a cattle prod
My wife is South African and this woman has no South African accent whatsoever. Sounds like she is Filipina. I think she is faking her positive attitude as well as it does not look pleasant there.
@its-all-good of course shes sharing a small bed!
Good advertisement and warning. Do not use or smuggle drugs in the Philippines.
Death penalty in other countries. In Wikipedia lists 37 of them.
In china you will die if she did that
Not really, too many chinese, police and politicians are involved in drug smugglings and they're still free because of connections...
Yep, in Singapore, it’s the death penalty. Their prime minister said that taking one life is too kind whereas the alternative is that the smuggled drugs will kill countless families and lives.
Do not date drug dealers.
MORAL OF THE STORY DO NOT SMUGGLE DRUGS.

This lovely south african lady is so upbeat, positive and friendly! She has so much potential. It is sad that she made poor decisions to get into this mess.
She’s been there so long she picked up the accent.
She is Pinoy now.

I think she's originally from a different country than South Africa. Her accent is not entirely Tagalog. 12:24 is more representative of the accent.
She's lucky bcoz Philippines no death penalty about drugs 😅if china Singapore Taiwan Indonesia Malaysia. RIP 😅
Was just about to say that because I was trying initially to figure out if she was American, British or Australian.
We all sometimes take freedom for granted. May God have mercy on these ladies. Especially the pregnant ones.
PH is a beautiful country with great people but you don't want legal trouble here. I always do my best to respect the law when traveling here.
Agreed 👍🏻
Totally. I live there. Filipino's very respectful to foreigners....but If you break the law (and I don't mean jay walking), you are going down like a ton of bricks. If drugs, there is a fair chance you won't make it to prison

Beautiful country and great people? Are you sure? 😂
So sad she threw away her life like that
I agree. I am sure her "fiancée" immediately abandoned her also, since it was his idea.
So sad that the Philippines has such a barbaric criminal justice system to sentence someone to 20-40 years for drug smuggling. That's way too harsh for such an offense. Maybe 5 at most is all she should serve.

It's really fascinating how these women have access to all these weapons that they can get from the kitchen and yet they don't hurt each other. If it were other countries like America, UK, or Nigeria for example, a lot of them will be dropping dead like flies due to fatal stabbings.
at least in america you can be isolated in a cell!
remember Heather Mack who actually thrived in that Bali prison but she's currently locked up in feds in Chicago and probably misses the Bali prison, even tho we hate her she was way better off there than in USA

Not many blks there. So, violence is low.
It's only the men that behave that way. Even in the US the women in prison mostly get along
She is lucky co'z ph dont have death penalty for a convicted drug courier!Unlike in Indonesia & Singapore!

Question of the day, Was it worth it?

@@Gilligansdreamlivin It obviously was not worth it, as she stated in the video she wished she never tried to drug smuggle. At least she still has her life and has hope.
The Philippines does not have the death penalty, yet. There was talk in the government about having the death penalty for crimes like murder, dealing and smuggling drugs. But it would only apply to foreigners and not Filipinos.
I thought I had a tough day today .
Although some were Murderers, and Violent Criminals a Lot of those Women did hardly anything! That Poor Woman Smuggling for her Boyfriend is Serving 20 - 40 Years to Life for a Little Cocaine. You have no right at laughing others. Have compassion towards others & feel for yourself in their shoes
Many prisons cannot house this many inmates.. they will need to reduce sentences or rehab inmates. Life sentences for drugs is "Not" the answer.
Still lucky she didn't get shot if she got detained under the former president's police brutality.
Why?
Feel sorry for her ,
We all make mistakes ,no one is perfect.
9 yrs ago is a long time , how old was she back then.
20 to 40 yrs ,so another 11 minimum another 31 max ,and her sentence is Life, that`s so sad..
Too much really. She’s suffering for the decision of a 19 year old
After 9 years in the prison, she talk like a filipino accent. Well done
She is South African (Afrikaan/Dutch) and her English may not be as good as she now caught a Filipino English and accent.
I wouldn't say "well done".... She is in prison
What’s confused me are foreigners living in the Philippines for years and not get the Filipino accent.

That's her original accent that is the south African accent. U assume she is American because she is white 🤦🏿♂️? 😂😂😂😂
Why is the government from her country didn't try to get her out through diplomacy? Philippines does it with the Filipinos who got in trouble in other countries.
Cause USA Government also Hate Drug Dealers, Drug Smuggler, and Drug Addict.
they are the reason why fetanyl and opoid is deadly in USA.
Diplomacy? Are you ignorant? You can only reduce the sentence out of diplomacy but never get out as a free man. Only GIs have that privilege because it's part of the agreement of both countries.
She is South African, no chance of intervention from the ANC government. You're on your own.
I'm not familiar with South African politics. But as far as I know, SA's is more corrupt and they don't exactly have a positive "opinion" towards white people.
She is not South African, she is European, she should contact her home land office I know she can get help there..
My advice never be a mule or carrier for anyone this countries do not play around when it comes to drugs they will punish you harshly even death
only poor criminals are punished. rich popular politicians dont. some of them even become president
This is why Filipinos humbly prefer poverty over prison.
On the other side of things, criminals feel safer in prison. 😅

Water and soap for personal hygiene is so much cleaner then tissue, just wash your hands afterwards, tissue is really primitive and doesn’t work very well.
I feel so sad for her journey, making it less option for her dreams to become a professional model but she ended up in jail in the Philippines because of illegal drugs. I pray for her to be free again. I know she is a good young and beautiful lady.
If you think the women's prison is bad, then search for men's prison in the
Philippines. At least the women have got beds to sleep in. The men sleep in
like cattle packed next to each other (no beds).
I feel for Debbie. She made one really bad decision, for the wrong man, and she has had to leave her family and former life behind for 9 long years with no idea of what her total sentence might be. Cleansing with water and soap after defecation is the best. Even same in india. We feel weird because tissue doesn't actually clean it just wipes, bacteria are still there which can get clean only with soap and water.
I have learned that as an American in my old age. I use a plastic cup filled with soapy
water to wet the tissue. I don't know why this was not taught to us as children and
young people. The majority of Americans still don't know this. Oh well.
@handsomeman-pm9vy yes, a dry toilet paper merely wipes. Not cleanse.
In the Philippines there is no soap for washing in Public CR ,only water so I bring always my own soap inside my bag😅

Think of this, for an herb that's very beneficial and, was discovered in Asia, a decade plus two years is way too much for some harmless marijuana. As my girlfriend being from Urdaneta, her and I have had these discussions on cannabis 10/9 and she never wins! 👍🙃
😊
God bless us all ❤
Interesting how she has completely adopted the Filipino pronunciation of English. Age 32. Been incarcerated 9 years in the PI. That would put her at age 23 when she went to prison. Is this her same age when she first arrived in the PI? Typically a 23 year old will retain their 'accent' even when moving to a location where the community speaks the language differently. I wonder if she has purposely adopted the Pinoy accent?
I love this channel ❤
I heard the best way to do time in that prison is to keep your mouth shut, head down, and mind your own business.
8.3 kg is really really serious, if her government help her and a good lawyer she could be out around 10 years. Soo sad

Someone get her out of the prison. 9 years is just too long and crazy drastic. Some are killers but only get 5 years. Higher people are really corrupt. Of course, she has no one there to support her, she'll stay longer. Only if I have the money, ill get her out. Rich people's family will be out in a fee months.
Your comment would probably be different if she was black. Get over it.

Well, Debbie is really learning a tough life lesson and this will really change her entirely. Prison is never a good place for anyone but if you break the law then this is just one of the many consequences you'll have to face. On the brighter side of her situation, she is deprived of many things she used to enjoy before and yet she lives and have 3 meals a day. Consequences.
As long as they all behave appropriately...its better than walking on thin ice were someone tries to bully other inmates...they are already paying for their crime..no need to judge them so much
Just thinking Cambodia you get caught with a joint or less of marijuana is automatic death penalty.. what could be so bad that this many Asian ladies are in prison.
She has the accent
She fell in love with the wrong man, a man who was going to profit from her foolishness. Affirmation that women pick wrong men then wail about it later. It's as if the men who wouldn't use them are undesirable while the users are. If only women would learn from themselves. Genesis 3 is alive and well.
This is their nature, they will never change. That's why you need fathers to protect them from poor decisions, but feminism decided this is not needed anymore.
It's. Very hard for her a foreigner to have this kind inmates very hard for her to stay there

She's a good looking woman, Its a shame a waste !
She definitely acquired her accent from her cellmate whom she always talked with. A cellmate from Visayas or Mindanao maybe.
It's very hard considering her family can't visit her
She knew what she was getting into. Someone lied to her. What type of wedding she needed that she had to deliver drugs to pay for it? What kind of man will want the woman to be his wife to run drugs?
Knowing places like this existed is what made me grateful to be in a USA prison when I was there. HALLELUJAH JESUS IS GOD

South African model nabbed for smuggling cocaine
By Dennis Carcamo | October 25, 2013 - 10:37am
A South African model was caught with 8.5 kilograms of cocaine at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA), the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) said on Friday
What was her sentence
@@gage4375 The same article above showed that she was charged with transportation of dangerous drugs according to the Republic act No. 9165, Section 5, Art II: "Section 5. Sale, Trading, Administration, Dispensation, Delivery, Distribution and Transportation of Dangerous Drugs and/or Controlled Precursors and Essential Chemicals. - The penalty of life imprisonment to death and a fine ranging from Five hundred thousand pesos (P500,000.00) to Ten million pesos (P10,000,000.00) shall be imposed upon any person, who, unless authorized by law, shall sell, trade, administer, dispense, deliver, give away to another, distribute dispatch in transit or transport any dangerous drug, including any and all species of opium poppy regardless of the quantity and purity involved, or shall act as a broker in any of such transactions." Though maybe her itinerary gave it away Peru Argentina Dubai Manilla Oh wait. the news says:
“Reyneke’s arrest on Oct. 23 upon her arrival from Dubai on board an Emirates flight was the result of the bureau’s enhanced intelligence network.”
“Customs officials at Naia were already alerted about her arrival and the possibility of having illegal drugs in her luggage."
So it was a giveaway, someone ratted on her. All the times i have been in the philippines customs has only once checked my luggage.
What is most surprising though is that the few photo's of her arrest picture her as a black woman with black rasta hair. Nothing like the girl pictured here in this video
