    Nice review. I got my 2024 GMC AT4 2500 HD 6.6 gas in June...ordered it in April. Loving it. Got rid of my 2018 Silverado 2500 HD Z71 Duramax (Had a ton of electrical issues) plus with all the emissions crap, DEF, Fuel filters, expense of the duramax, decided to go back to gas. Plus my trialer loaded is maybe 5000lbs. I just can't go back to a 1500 series truck after owning a 2500 since 2005 with my first being the 2004.5 LLY 2500 HD Duramax. I have been running 87 octane in the new one. Not sure if it makes that much of a difference to run 89 or even 91??? Thoughts on that? Around town and in traffic I'm getting 11-15 mpg. straight freeway, 15-18, best was 21.2 for a 25 mile average, 18 mpg for 50 mile average. I know my duramax had an overall average of 16.7 for the last 15K miles I owned it. Best round trip I did in my 2018 was 685 miles, 20.18 MPG, CC set at about 64-65. Drove from Orange County CA to Goodyear AZ and back just to see if I could make it on one tank! LOL, I did. (My wife thought I was crazy but she's a good sport) If I can average between 14-15 with this, I'd be stoked, but it's gonna probably be less. I might try a tank of 89 then 91 to see if any difference just for yah yah's. Anyways...great content. Thanks

    Just did a drive with my 2024 gmc 3500 at4 and used the adaptive cruise control. Went from southern New Hampshire to tampa Florida. Seems to work way better than the adaptive cruise control my 2018 Honda ridgeline black edition had. I thought it worked great on the closest setting. The occasional asshat that cuts you off can be annoying. But I usually saw them coming and would brake before the adaptive cruise control had a chance to jam up the brakes

    I had a 23 with the 6 speed and now a 24. I will say the 6 speed did accelerate a little quicker to 30-40 mph IMO but the 10 speed is so much more refined and does a better job towing. Also it has no issue passing at highway speeds.

    2022 Ford F-250 CrewCab Lariat FX4 7.3L to 2024 GMC 2500HD CrewCab AT4 L8T. GM has a better ride (independent front suspension vs solid front axle) as well as a much smoother V8 (L8T feels more refined). 10 spd 'Allison' shifts smoother. Definitely feel like GM has the nicer, better engineered gaser HD truck. Looks too, but that's just opinion.

    @jb reviews try and turn off the traction control to test and see if torque management is holding it back if you hold down on the button for a few seconds it should disable all the traction and stability control. But it may be slower if it can’t get traction who knows.

      Exactly! If I were the dealer I'd be pissed! Pretty much ignored break-in suggestions - for first 500 miles, avoid rapid acceleration, don't rev over 4,000 RPM for gas engine. Pointless test until engine is properly broken in, which this one may never be now.

    Guys I tune GM Vehicles for a living. I can sum up what the issue is in very simple terms for these trucks. Especially the 6.6l L8T. The problem is a few things, but 2 stand out the most. You need to run 91 or higher Octane. GM vehicles start out using the high octane spark table when you start the vehicle. If you have a low octane fuel the engine starts to spark knock. Timing is then pulled from the low octane table until you cycle the key and start the whole process over. The low octane table is trash in these, meaning next to no timing. You should always use high octane fuel to get the most timing and performance. The 2nd issue is they don't allow power enrichment until over 5000 rpms. This is a huge issue only second to the spark problem and sometimes I didn't get power enrichement at all. You can get around the spark issue with the High Octane, unfortunately you can't get around the enrichment problem without a tune. I just tuned a 2022 6.6l L8t, only mods where K&N panel filter. This truck had the 6 speed 6l90 transmission. When I was done with the tune (Engine and Transmission) I picked up over 1.5 seconds to 60 mph @ sea level. The 3rd issue is the transmission shift points and tq management, once again no way around that without a tune. These are actually really quick and fun to drive trucks once its tuned properly.

    • @JetTech1966

      That whole breathing thing really doesn't make a difference with these trucks. I installed an S&B CAI on my gasser and other than a little more intake sound, really no benefits. It's looks great and sounds great, but the factory intake works just as good. But I do agree torque management has to be coming into play.

  • @matthewanderson9912
    @matthewanderson9912 Před rokem

    Heard my name lol. So I’ve done the calculations for you so here you go.
    1st gear top speed with a 3.73 is 31.07 mph. A 4.10 would be 28.27 mph
    2nd gear is 52.17 mph for a 3.73 and 47.46 mph if it had a 4.10.
    3rd gear is 72.43 mph for a 3.73 and 65.89 mph if it had a 4.10.
    So both would hit 60 in 3rd gear. And that’s not too much of a surprise because a 4.10 to a 3.73 is not that much for a difference. So it would be hard to say if it would have an advantage here. I could argue it both ways honestly. I think the 3.73 would be ahead because in 1st gear it’s over 2 mph further ahead at the top of the gear. But again, no way to tell without just doing it.
    And to be fair I think your first 0-60 in your truck was 11.6 or 11.8. So it does stand to reason if yours gained about a second after you drove it some this AT4 would also. Just a thought.

Buy a tuner and start replacing some engine parts to free it up and I bet just like its predecessor the LS engine woke up to an insane power spike with no issues.

TFL did the same thing in a 6.6 Silverado and compared it to a Ford 7.3 using 87 octane. The differences were severe. People need to stop being cheap and put the right fuel in the truck.
