Ever heard of Relativistic Newtonian Dynamics ( not MOND)
Português? :(
Albert Einstein (Relativitätstheorie) and Max Planck (Quantenmechanik). Both Germans and no german subtitles?! ^^ As a German, I am not amused. ;-) By the way, the music is much too loud.
@@stanlibuda5786 Many of my videos have German subtitles available. If you would like to help me add German subtitles to a video that does not already have them, please send me an email. My email address is available in the "about" tab on my CZcams home page (if you view it on a PC, not a phone). I will email you the subtitle file in English (which includes the timings). You will then be able to edit the file to replace the English with the translation, and then email the file back to me, and I will then upload the translation to my channel. Thanks.
@@EugeneKhutoryansky Thank you for the offer. But there is no need for German subtitles. There are enough German channels here on CZcams that explain quantum mechanics. In particular, the double-slit experiment (in German: Doppelspaltexperiment). Even if these are not as beautifully visual as you have shown them.
This channel has the most amazing physics videos
Thanks for the compliment.
I agree. Congratulations.
Very true
Jesús Herrera I have to play this video back several times. The complex conjugate traveling backward in time is new to me. 😐😐😐😐😐
@@John77Doe yes you are right. Just note that the imaginary axis is perpendicular to the 2D space time diagram plane.
I was taught the "shut up and calculate" interpretation.
That's the hard science, this video was not about hard science, but fairy tale explanations of it.
@@frankschneider6156 Yeah, sure, but to calculate you need to have the theory and to advance and create new theory and design new experiments you need to interpret. Or do you think Einstein came up with relativity by just shutting up and calculating with Newtons equations?
My understanding of Prof John Cramer's Transactional Interpretation is that it does follow the maths which may explain why, after 50yrs, it is claimed no experimental set up has yet contradicted its qualitative explanation. Is that worth having rather than being told to 'shut up'?
Looks like this interpretation is really common in universities, sadly...
@@frankschneider6156 You need to know what things like energy, momentum, position, etc. are before you can measure them and you need a testable framework before you can make predictions about what those quantities will be. Theory precedes experiment and it's often in the interpretation of phenomena that some of Nature's greatest mysteries are hidden.
I saw a cat reading the book so I thought “if a cat can understand Quantum Physics then so can I”. I watched the video and boy was I wrong.
lmao
You made my day 😂
😂😂😂
Yeah, Paul, but the cat has nine lives so it can assign one to each interpretation.
You and I don't come that well equipped for the job.
I'm a senior at UC Berkeley studying astrophysics, just spent two semesters on quantum mechanics. Your videos have helped my studies immensely, thank you.
Thanks. I am glad my videos are helpful.
@@EugeneKhutoryansky I just stumbled upon your vegan ethics page also, it is great. I haven't eaten meat since I was 5 years old, but I have always wondered why some people have an intrinsic sense of equality for sentient life while others seem to not have this trait. For some it is a product of upbringing, but for others including myself, it seems I was born with it as my household ate meat. Any thoughts?
Most people who are presently vegan, including me, grew up in households were everyone else ate meat. So, this is not because of upbringing, but rather in spite of it. People are able to reason logically for themselves, regardless of what type of family they are born into.
J C, the American Dietetic Association states: "Well-planned vegan and other types of vegetarian diets are appropriate for all stages of the life cycle, including during pregnancy, lactation, infancy, childhood, and adolescence. Vegetarians have been reported to have lower body mass indices than nonvegetarians, as well as lower rates of death from ischemic heart disease; vegetarians also show lower blood cholesterol levels; lower blood pressure; and lower rates of hypertension, type 2 diabetes, and prostate and colon cancer."
Just out of interest, what are they telling you at UCB about interpretations of Quantum Mechanics? Have they even mentioned EPR?
This channel alone makes me really thank the advantages that I get because of virtual life. Sometimes grabbing books alone about physics, math etc. does not help that much. There’s too much text with little images and let alone no animations; which really leaves me overwhelmed. This is how videos really help, and thanks to you I can get a little more understanding out of physics with every video that gets released
Too complicated to understand for me
Will come back in a few yrs to appreciate it better
Aditya Iyer one of the deepest words I’ve ever heard of some random dude in public chat. The most just don’t understand and want there own, stupid logic to be the truth 🙄
wdym man? Even the top researchers of quantum mechanics don't understand quantum mechanics. It just is that complicated in its nature. Not just complicated for you.
I keep coming back after every semester and things become clearer and I become more engaged.
Good good - then you're beginning the journey. "If you think you understand Quantum Mechanics, then you don't understand Quantum Mechanics" (Richard Feynman)
Have you tried again?
The title passes the vibe check.
Interesting topic. Thanks!

I love this video. You should do more videos about each of these interpretations and the implications of if a certain interpretation is true. Or maybe even go into detail about what experiments could be done in the future which would lead to a better understanding of these ideas.
No this is Patrick love this idea .
Yes! Please!
probably the best simple explanation of QM interpretations I have ever seen.
Thanks. I am glad you liked my explanation.
The description of QBism is surprisingly and pleasantly accurate. I have been helping to develop this view of quantum mechanics for many years, and I have never seen it introduced so well.
Thanks. Glad you liked my explanation of QBism.
I used some of these videos in the last few years to teach my middle school students characteristics of electromagnetic fields, current flow, current/voltage and a few others. Now that I'm retired, I 'll miss searching for and finding such amazing resources. Most of these vids are (should be) award-winning quality. My sincere thanks to the folks who produce them for sharing them so freely, it made teaching much more fun for both myself and my kids, and really helped them to visualize some hitherto abstract concepts and principles. I can only bemoan the unbelievably miserly attitude of CZcams, which now will not allow downloading even for educational purposes. They GET the vids for free, and yet won't share them anymore, even though the authors/creators did.
Thanks for the compliment about my videos and I am glad that you and your students found them helpful. One of the reasons CZcams does not allow downloading videos is because both CZcams and the video owner make money from the CZcams advertisements, and if the video is downloaded, this is lost revenue. However, teachers can always show my videos to the students in their classrooms by playing them directly from my CZcams channel. And they can also send the link to their students, so that the students can also watch the videos on my CZcams channel from home. Thanks.
Retro-casuality along with the transactional interpretation seems to me to have the least amounts of assumptions and consequential paradoxes that arrive from it, it's the best theory in my opinion. Great video!
Glad you liked my video. Thanks.
@@EugeneKhutoryansky please sir please make a video on concept and cases of static friction direction because it is very confusing when the their are two object and one of them are in motion and we have to find direction of static friction
In view of the utility of the Transactional Interpretation a dedicated video would be worthwhile as it's not well represented on CZcams. The academic physics professor that proposed it, or associates, may be able to help.

How does it deal with stuff like Hardy's paradox (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hardy%27s_paradox) ?
You had me at "Quantum" with a Cat in the thumbnail. I must observe this to make sure the cat is alive.
The cat is alive and well.
But it could have actually turned up to be dead. Next time before you watch a video, please stop and consider it for a minute. Is it worth potentially killing the cat with a reckless observation? Or maybe it should better be left dead but alive?
Bruh it's just reading a book 🤣
The cat looks like it's simultaneously dead and alive.
What a beautiful surprise colapsing on my laptop...Thank u Eugene!
Thanks.
Please keep making these kind of videos. I absolutely love them. I will support you financially some time in the future on your patreon.

Physics Videos by Eugene Khutoryansky I have a question, which interpretation do you believe is most likely to be correct?
I prefer not to say.
@@EugeneKhutoryansky I'll put my bet on manyworld interpretation 😀

People watching the video will be able to see your subtitles by clicking on the gear symbol under the video, then clicking on "subtitles", and then selecting the language.
Keep up the good work! I love your channel.
Google/CZcams does a good job of translating subtitles, if already transcribed in one language - though it may not be 100% perfect.
Try this: Enable subtitles (click icon), Click on settings icon (gear wheel) and choose subtitles - then automatic translation - then select the language you wish translated to.
Love your videos, your animations are so descriptive + the speaker is easy to understand. Thumbs up^∞
EgonSorensen, I am aware that this option exists, though it is always preferable to have translated subtitles submitted by a real person. And thanks for the compliment.

Thank you for mentioning the relational interpretation!
But is it different from the many worlds interpretation?
The book said “Stop testing on animals” XD
The cat was performing an experiment on us. Outside of the box thinking.
The cat looks like it's simultaneously dead and alive.
But we need animal testing for certain scenarios! Of course there are the 5 Rs that try to set guidelines for reduction of animal testing.
Eugene has many writings on this topic
Hello Madam Angela. I have downloaded this amazingly beautiful and calming to watch video in a folder labelled as Teacher Eugene Khutoryansky on the desk of my O.S. It is my new Year's Resolution that I would carefully watch your videos in 2023.
Having said that, I would like to admit that I was so consumed by Many World's Interpretation of Quantum Mechanics that I never thought that there are other interpretations of this marvelous subject of PHYSICS.
Thank you very much for creating this video for the audience. Please live long and prosper Madam Angela ⭐🌟🌠☪✴☪🌠🌟⭐✴.

I love the process of finding different tactics to save as much coherency in a web of theories that follows when stumbling upon a theoretical problem or inconsistency. It's like watching the shape, structure or interactions of an evolving concept adjust. Like a superorganism finding ways to preserve and develop itself by mating with different universal laws.
I love you Eugene and Kira.
This is super interesting! Thank you ☺️
Thanks.
Wonderful video. I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you for your time and effort, you deserve the best.

Very great video it's hard to find anyone tackling this subject with clear animations and clear descriptions.

Since I know there are smarter versions of me doing things faster and better, I am taking a break for the rest of my life in this dimension.
I laughed. Well done, sir. Well done. 👌🏻👍🏻 I'll remember that in times of hardship.
In order for that to work, you need to make a number of additional assumptions, which takes away from the main draws of your theory 😝
Actually you don't know that, that's just one of many interpretations.
@@baykkus Well, in another dimension, you do know that, and no other interpretation exists, except that one.
@@VidarrKerr haha well played
Retro-causality/Transactional is my favorite interpretation for sure. Quantum logic is also pretty cool!
My god, I was wishing for such a video for so long and this is just so good 🙏

Love your videos. I've always loved thinking about the advantages and shortcomings of each philosophical interpretation, and I'm really happy that you've made a neat and easily approachable video like this about it. I hope this can spark some more interest in people to think outside the box we are normally taught about, even if that may lead to some U-turns and dead-ends in our reasoning.
I look forward to your future videos, someday I hope to be able to make some educational and inspiring videos myself. :)

Loved this video!
Can you please make a Video on Noether's Theorem and explain how different symmetries result in different Conservation Laws of the Universe!
Thanks in advance.
That was wonderful! Clear, unbiased overview with just enough information about the quite different approaches.
I feel that even people without much background but with inherent fascination and curiosity could understand the ideas and maybe felt inspired to learn more. It's easy to overload the audience with advanced math or concepts hard to grasp without studying - or even worse, to produce content without any scientific foundation that just spreads more misinformation and feeds false beliefs; especially common when the topic is quantum physics. I like that you even touched upon the "soul theory" and respectfully hinted at all the complications such interpretation introduces.
Thanks for the compliment about my video.
This is the best video ever!
I love how objectivly you described all the interpretations. Showing respect for each and every one of them (even the "conciusness role" one) really gave me goos bumps...

its good too see someone apprieciates many angle of views on one object.. actually that is power of consciousness.. is well known fact that all those QM physicists studied Vedic scriptures like upanishad and bhagavad gita..so actually core and most comprehensive philosophies are to be found there... its really huge topic but if u want just reasearch philoshopies of Caitanya Mahaprabhu (15th cent.) form of language may be hard to digest but u need to be very attentive. My brain: "My time has come"
"The Ghost in the Atom: A Discussion of the Mysteries of Quantum Physics" is a great book on interpretations of quantum mechanics.
I have read that. Recommended! There is also Max Jammer's The Philosophy of Quantum Mechanics: The Interpretations of Quantum Mechanics in Historical Perspective. A nice read, but the author limits it to a basic single-particle or maybe sometimes two particle, non-relativistic, non quantum field theory, level of quantum theory. Still, great food for thought.

It looks like a neutron. Amazing.
Retro-causality seems to make the most sense
I waited for this video for so long. :)
Thanks for these videos Eugene, I always enjoy them and I'm really glad to see someone talk about the possibilities here and not just trying to explain the copenhagen interpretation over and over again.
I was surprised to see the retro causality idea in the list, I thought I'd come up with that myself - not one of my favourites, but good to know I'm not crazy for considering it!
I'd love to help with these somehow if you need it, I'm a web designer & programmer with a strong interest in 3D graphics & physics simulations.
When I watched the Delayed Choice Quantum Eraser video, my first thought was on the possibility of there being a "retarded" and "advanced" wave function, much like in the Wheeler-Feynman Absorber theory as you have something very similar with the "retarded" and "advanced" fields that are time-reversal symmetric and the net field is the average of the two which respects causality. I should have known someone else already thought of it. Gonna have to look into the Transactional interpretation more.
Thanks Eugene 😍 from Egypt 🇪🇬

QBism is the most handwavy interpretation of them all. That’s why it’s my least favorite
Trumpism
I'd say that the consciousness role interpretation takes second place for hand-waviness, making it my second-least favorite.
@@torin1006 I mean it does sorta work with the simulation theory (keep in mind, my knowledge of this consciousness role is limited to this video lol) . The idea of a simulated reality just sounds so cool to me, that's why consciousness role was my personal favourite 😂😂.
@@LetsSink Coolness as a motivator for philosophy, wew
If you know some Bayesian statistics, it won't seem handwavy to you at all
In fact, I'd argue that for non-frequentists (which is a lot of scientists nowadays), this type of statistical interpretation is the one that makes the least assumptions.

Your content is mind blowing . This is the most comprehensive video ever . I was waiting for this video for a long. I have a request . Please make a detailed video on black body radiation, ultraviolet catastrophe, and plank's law in terms of both graphs and photons carrying energy boxes. The ultraviolet catastrophe is not explained very well by most teachers. What are plank constants? Plank length is raising questions. What is the smallest wavelength a photon can have? If the wavelength of a photon is less than plank length , is the photon then converted into mass? One website on google says that it is converted into mass. What is the highest temperature any black body can have? What is plank temperate? Please make a video on this. These are the questions about whose answers I am eager to know. I will be very grateful to you.
Thanks for the compliment. Blackbody radiation is on my list of topics for future videos. Thanks.
Years ago, I was stuck on the pilot wave idea. That actually is a watered-down form of what de Broglie called the Theory of the Double Solution. I found it intriguing. The wave from an event at a location expands out as spherical shells of peaks and valleys. Stuck onto this is a sharp tight peak, I called it the "nugget", but whatever, it had a natural frequency identified with the mass of the particle. The wave followed a wave equation with the same mass. The nugget had no choice but to ride along on the wave, moving outward. Eventually the nugget collides with some sort of sensor, absorbing system, something to be "observed". The wave just moves outward in all directions - no need for it to collapse at all points of space at the same time as when the nugget get taken into the absorbing observing sensing system. The wave could very well be perturbing other quantum systems.
But this idea had a bunch of problems. One is that it's just a specific form of a hidden variable theory. Those are all out by Bell's Theorem and experiments showing that reality doesn't care about Bell. Another problem is how to explain many particle systems. Two or three electrons - does each have its own wave to surf along? Or is there one wave that all three electrons as "nuggets" (my term not de Broglie's) riding in different places on that same wave? There were problems in thinking about how fermions and bosons differ, but if both, electrons and photons, were to be described by the Theory of the Double Solution, then... well, it was just a mess with no testable predictions or differences from simpler interpretations other than carrying a lot of intuitive intellectual baggage.
Years ago, I ditched the idea of the pilot wave / double solution. It was not useful scientifically or enlightening philosophically.
Animation makes it much easier to comprehend these complicated theories. Thank you for your contribution to the videos about quantum physics!
Thanks.
You nailed it.
Thank you so much, it is so enlightening.
And very useful for building up basic understanding, for further deep research.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks.
I'm glad to see someone actually mention the transactional interpretation. I've always loved that it doesn't arbitrarily throw away half the wave function on the assumption that it's "non-physical"
Great video!!!
