- My house is full of depression antiques
From all the way, way back
late last week, man
It’s a D E P R E S S I owe I O N
I ain’t a gambler but I bet
It don’t get
Better
Well there ain’t nuthin much to do
But sit and watch the tube
Wait for the pill to come and kick the door through
On yer D E P R E S S I owe I O N
So sayeth the therapist: come back
…well if you insist
I was so broke
That I went and got fixed
The veterinarian was nice
But my doctor was pissed
It’s a D E P R E S S I owe I O N
Well I’ve always been a little bit sad around the edges
It ain’t nuthin to fix
And it ain’t contagious
It’s jus a D E P R E S S I owe I O N
I ain’t a gambler
But I bet
It don’t get
Better
Why is no one talking about the line "I was so broken that I went to get fixed, the veterinarian was nice but my doctor was pissed" That is GOLD!
🐈
Yes, but it can mean two things… He got meds that are animal approved, and/or an animal. Lol.
@@8dreamersfarm or he's "fixed" i.e. he got his balls snipped like a dog's by the vet😂
I don't think that he s talking about an actual veterinarian.. 😅.. I think it s just a nickname for some other kind of "doctor"
@@j.477I thought he did mean an actual veterinarian and it was a ketamine joke lol
I’m completely convinced Jesse can’t make a bad song. Every song is so uniquely catchy and touching. I love Jesse Welles
His old rock band was pretty meh but ever since he started doin all this solo country stuff he has been absolutely on fire with his writing
Check out his old stuff….you aren’t wrong, it’s just amazing to hear him do it in a totally different style
These are kind of reworked blues and folk classics but it’s the melody choices and lyrics that are really impressive. Wonder how many of these are works in progress that took years and how much of it was like a creative burst? Having written music most of my adult life sometimes it evolves slowly and sometimes you can’t get the ideas out of your head fast enough. He clearly has a deep library of songs to draw elements from so he’s keeping the riffs and chords simple so the message can be the center of attention. Just awesome stuff!
It’s pretty clear to see he’s cookin these up quick, but like most prolific folks, he doesn’t concern himself with something sounding too close to something else. Reminds me a bit of Loudon Wainwright III, but all you need to hear is his Boeing whistle blower tune to see that his creative fire is burning BRIGHT right now and he can’t miss.
ABSOLUTE PURE TALENT JESSE HAS…. BORN WITH IT SOUNDS….. GOD BLESS HIM AND PLEASE NEVER STOP WRITING AND SHARING YOUR GENIUS WITH US!! MUCH ENJOYMENT YOU BRING AND I STILL HEAR SOME JOHN PRINE SOMETIMES…. THANK YOU FOR MAKING ME SMILE…..
Depression has never sounded so good.
i love his hybrid picking so much
Feeding the guitar to the plants so they'll get stronger. What a visionary.
Aw that little toss and smile at the end just made me so happy. This boy is such a treasure
Depressioion
Depress-"i-owe"-ion
@@glitt3rpukeThank you, it’s literary merit!
😄
A depression song that's actually about depression, not about overcoming, being brave or how true love will fix it, which it won't.
A rare gem. Thank you.
Quit being a fucking baby
So hard to come by such authentic, well written music like this these days.
His walk ups and walk downs all done without looking or thinking. He’s probably writing the next song in his head, while playing this one. Genius.
Knew somethin was up when he didn’t have his guitar strap on….
Love the sound of that old Stella! Play’n it loose!
A lot of times, depression is a perfectly natural and understandable response to certain things...
My lord, the picking, the twang, the tune, the reality of the sound. It's what's missing in modern music.
This guy got stuck in the pipe when they were pumping out musicians in the seventies. He just just dislodged it would appear!❤
“I’ve always been a little bit sad around the edges It ain’t nuthin to fix and it ain’t contagious” hits so hard
I love this song ❤
As someone who's "always been a little bit sad around the edges", i love this and i love how much fun he has singing it... makes for a nice juxtaposition
Does he have fun? That's a hard smile if ever I've seen it. That's a smile that's tough to keep up
Welles' never dry! Pumping out great lyrics by the day
We love Nihilism Folk
Please bring out an album brother!!!! You'r raw acoustic stuff is up there with Nelson and Dylan. Its fresh, genuine and hits the nail on the head. Love from Liverpool❤✊
The hero we all need
But never deserved.
Nice to hear an old soul that isn't old 👍
I have the biggest crush on him 😂 love his little smiles while he plays
That veterinarian line is CRAZY 😅
That’s a jaunty little tune. What a star you are.
The guitar toss is an exclamation point to how my day has gone. It was uterly perfect!
I love a CZcamsr who actually just records themselves playing and singing, instead of singing to a studio track and pretending. Thanks Jesse. 👍👍
As a sufferer of depression I claim this my new theme song. I really like your music. Thank you for sharing
This song's timing is perfect. This has been weighing on my mind all day today
Fleeting moments of mania, produce levity, and help me forget how depressed I am.
Wow another amazing tune keep it coming man you are a legend already.
You can tell when someone is singing for joy over when they're singing for $.
“Perfectly good guitar”. 😂 (John Hiatt)
Perfect!
Man I don't know what I want more - for you to go on big stage or keep playing in the woods. Stay true!
I'd just like to meet him and give him a big hug for thanks
Gotta love the manic guitar chuck and the end.😅 with a smile of course. Talk about poetry in motion
that was exactly my thought. beautiful
These tunes have been getting me through a tough time, and inspiring me to continue writing my own. You're absolutely killing it.
Casuals will miss the genius. I'm sort of speechless yet quietly amused
I remember the last one a guy said how repetitive your stuff is. Proved him wrong with this one.
This one needs to go on spotify so I can bop to it at work. Keep going, Jesse!
Hey brother, speaking as someone who's been to that brink and back, even losing some good souls to that black void, I bet you it can get better.
You got all the tools you need to fix it, they are right there in your heart. Revel in your own talent, know you're worth it.
Don't sweat the melancholy, it just means you still got some soul left in ya. All the good ones keep a tinge of blue around those edges.
Great song, always glad to hear something worth feeling.
I didn’t have as much fun learning the lyrics to a song since they came with the vinyl back then. Thank you for writing them down for us. Got the first verse and the chorus down. 😊❤🎉
He's so good. Begging him to get all these up on the socials like spotify ect.
I don’t normally listen to this kind of music… but I liked this… no, I loved this
Tapped so fast
Jesse is really a breath of fresh air in the music industry.
Thank God he isn't in the industry yet.
@@_nelson_1958 anyone who makes music is part of the music industry unfortunately
oh he knew he was cooking with this one
That's some mighty fine pickin', Son.
I’m pay Jesse a grand a hour just to sit by a fire and have a beer and hear him play/ tell his stories
I was thinking the same, I’m in !!!
Homey has more pathos than John Prine. A curse for Jesse, a blessing for the rest of us.
It's done. You've got a Spanish fan's club. Thanks so much for your songs Jesse.
the world keeps turning no matter what we think of it, or each other, or the time we're living in. A friend once said to me that 'depression is an affliction of the intellectual' the more you're able to think about things and put shit into context, the worse it seems. Maybe - but the world keeps turning careless of us. That feller also told me I should write my anger down, put it out in the way you're doing but I have no talent. My guitar playing is remedial at best and my singing voice has a repellent quality unrivaled. You on the other hand, have got this. Stay on it, folks are HEARING you
Thats the point, once you have put it in context, it’s changed its face. You can’t ever figure this shit out, so quit trying and pick up the guitar. Cheers
All the best guitar players will say "meh I'm alright at playing" so just keep playing and put your heart and soul into it I don't play nearly as much as I used to and I regret it every day
Love you Jesse, keep em coming. You put all our unconscious thoughts into simple songs, and help us realize we're not alone, we're all on this sinking ship together!
Your style, your text, your you always make me pay attention. Thx for sharing this Jesse.
“I went and got fixed
The veterinarian was nice
But my doctor was pissed”
thats crazy dude lol
Real talk, if you put out a vinyl album, it's going right next to my Guthrie, Pete Seeger and Jerry Jeff Walker albums.
Also, I think I'm going to have to write a song about hoofing my recording accoutrements up a mountain to get clicks haha. I think you're from the south as well and if I had to record in a field of poke sallet, I'd be absolutely drenched in sweat this time of year, haha.
some good old country blues! thank you brother.
hybrid picking in the middle of nowhere lol unexpected legend
* *chucks guitar into a bush* *
There is real heart and soul in his music. Not like what you find from the soulless music industry.
Best yet. I want to wander about in greenery and stumble upon a Jesse Welles concert. That, will be placed on my bucket list for sure.
This is amazing dude! I thought this was a cover of something and was going to look up how to play it, but I can't find anything so I deduce that this is an original song? Holy shit man, you're from another time and place.
What a good song sounds like.
Damn do I love the facial expressions he makes while he plays! I can’t believe I am getting to watch this level of phrase turning, song writing and picking unfold right now right here. Just blowing my mind again and again.
Jesse, don’t make them loose the K9’s on you dude, you can’t stay in the woods forever…….😑
Lol, really can’t express how much I enjoy your material and appreciate your talent.
Thank you
God bless ya’
This man is amazingly talented
Just found you randomly ❤❤❤ brilliant! Listening at a country pub on my own in Uk with bad signal. What a find! Looks like Jim Morrison sings and writes like himself ❤ thank you for sharing
This guy keeps amazing me and the rate of his production is like I've never seen! Subbed right away
Oh, I've been waiting for this one! Thank you, sir!
The changes are perfect!
I don't think it get better.
AND A GUITAR THROW!!!!🤘
Jeez he must have like three album's of material now! More amazing songs Jesse.
All one can do is tip my hat and smile. Always thankful that you post. Seize the day good sir!
Homie plays like Fuller and writes like Dylan
I’m in love with this dude.
Really appreciated this song and the lyrics, thank you sir.
I'm right there with ya on this un man!!! Superior lyrics......and I really dig that old style pick'n brother. Another excellent h.c. tune man!! ron
I want to see you succeed dude
I feel like you got a million subscribers / followers in your not to distant future and I am here for it! 🙌🏼
Thank you for your work.
Nice song! I see some poke weed in that background? It’s helpful for arthritis when it’s young. That red color is arsenic compounds. My granny told me it helped her sore hands, and she showed me how to cook it. Science article years later confirmed the plant was medicinal and nutritional…granny was smarter than I thought.
Thankyou for putting this out there! I’m gonna go research it and see if we get it up here in the Northwest.
It's always pokeweed.
jesse,I hope you see this, you are a good soul. you inspire people, you speak the truth, and you have the talent to make music that people can really, feel. please never stop what you’re doing 🤙🏻
Well, your picking certainly seems to just better all the time, but it's the pure musicality of your songs that keeps me here. Also, a cloudburst doesn't last all day...
Oliver Anthony's little brother got lost in the woods as a baby, raised by wolves, and now he's here. Because bood doesn't just turn into water. Good to have you back to civilization, m8. Well, kind of.
Glad to have him back. Wish it were some other place than civilization
That's right. It don't. But you don't have to not be depressed, to still see beauty and love some small aspect of something that only you know.
i needed this. thank you.
This is folk punk at its finest. Keep it up dude; I’ll be a fan till I die.
There is nothing punk about this. It is the definition of folk music. The lyrics you hear in classic folk tunes may seem tame and outdated now. I assure you they were edgy and controversial at the time. Tipper gore would have had a hey day with them. Stop trying to shove everthing into little niche bags so you can be cool.
music through out history has been about social issues. punk was just one form of it.
@@imxluke sure. But this isn't punk.
@@richardclark. gotta disagree, punk means a lot to me. I once thought GG Alin and the Murder Junkies wasn’t punk. Then a real punk shared his tastes in country, rockabilly, and blues. He showed me that Punk isn’t so much a sonic style, as much as raw, rebellion. Jesse’s lyrics are speaking truth to power, while smiling. That’s punk to me.
@@Imscottirl that punk, in your own words, shared his taste in other forms of music. They were not punk. Rock a Billy is not punk. He appreciated it, sure. But he wasn't it any more than iggy pop was a classical composer. And iggy loves classical music. Sorry if you can't grasp the separation in genres.
One of my favorites! Dude... how are you singing straight to my soul again, and again, and again....
They're songs for the times, and they definitely speak to this tragically screwed up generation of ours. The guy's a gem to be sure.
Mornin', Guitar throw was unexpected lol
You are a true musician. Amazing.
“My house is full of depression antiques from way back late last week”
I was gonna clean my room, but then I got high.
And then I clicked a Jesse Welles video, and then I cleaned my fucking room. You didn’t have to call me out like that 😅
Amazing songs. All of them
I want to buy an album from you. You’ve got nothing but bangers.
A real breath of fresh air sir Thank you 🙏🏽
Had me hooked from the intro riff
That ending g where he just chucks the guitar into the Forrest! 🤣
Please take care of yourself Jesse
Man that was a great song! You could tell Jesse really enjoyed playing that one. I'd say by the fifth video I realized Jesse might just be one of the best songwriters ever to live in our modern time right now!
Jammin with Jesse in the woods, on shrooms, that has to be peak joy🤩
A modern Arlo Guthrie
My favourite so far, but they’re all amazing.
Thank you for bringing your gift into the world. It’s medicine. ❤
This is probably my favorite track from you thus far. This is a sick tune
My man came through again.
Let me play bass in a track man ✊✊✊
The veterinarian was nice
But my doctor was pissed
