I agree chasing pleasure and avoiding pain is an endless self feeding loop. Most humans have been in it thru history. I think many would disagree the country is free esp the native Americans and indigenous who went thru the founding of many countries.

If the body is only clothing for the soul and the soul remembers everything and the body nothing, then how would the body know what to do or correct in this life.
This is a longer discussion, of course. But the body is only an empty shell. The brain doesn’t remember, physically. But all input is only from the spirit. A little bit like the broadcasting station and the radio. The broadcasting station is the creator of the universe our soul is the conduit And our body merely receives input. But our body does have its own consciousness. There are also different levels of soul, so it’s not a black-and-white thing. The lower levels of the soul and survival instinct comes from the lowest level of soul, and is connected to the body. There are five basic stages of soul with higher levels of consciousness.

I think karma, at least in most people’s minds, creates a cyclical picture. You kill, next life you get killed. Of course, that’s oversimplified and most people don’t really believe it this way.
Tikkun on the other hand tells me of infinite progress, you kill, next life you become a doctor. It’s not about punishment, it’s about correction of the universe. That to me in the fundamental difference between kabbalistic belief and other eastern ways. It’s not an infinitely cyclic prison. It is a journey towards ultimate triumph over imperfections and the true release of the spirit. Echad … kol tov.
What is your view?
I will be doing an entire course on this topic. In about five weeks time. Four weeks after the crash course which is this Sunday, January 21. It’s on the schedule as the next crash course. Reincarnation, Karma and changing one’s destiny.
