Ok. I gotta hand it to Chevy, they really know how to make a great car for a good price. What's not to love about the Camaro. Personally I own a 2016 Mustang V6 and have always wanted a mustang, but for the record if I had $65,000 to spend on a car the Camaro would be a tough bargain to best.

@@MysticBoltz yup... I've got this exact car and it's every bit the badass the C7 ZO6 is, and after driving both the ZL1 drove better IMO, with the brand new 10 speed auto even more so. There was the dealer allotment then as well and I got the last one on the list, mine had every option but the engine block heater. The LT4 motor is so responsive to even just bolton upgrades to begin with, I did however ditch the POS 1.7L stock supercharger and put on the whipple 2.9L, headers, pulley, exhaust, cold air induction and a custom tune for the LT4 for 640hp + or - 5 to the wheels and it cost just over $80k in total. It takes out hellcats and mustangs, and the '17 ZO6 and others over the years and lost a few as well. Over the years it's also beaten several Porsches too for a third of the cost this thing punches way above its weight class. For the money and bang for your buck the ZL1 is very, very tough to beat.
I like how he completely fails to mention the magnetic ride control that makes it a superior handling vehicle vs any Mustang at the time he did this review.
Yeah, he didn't say anything about the visibility either.

I’ve done 31,000 miles and 12 track days across 3 states in my ZL1. What I really enjoy about my non 1LE is its daily drivable and a track weapon. I’m within .6 seconds of the 1LEs at AutoClub Speedway. After 10 years of Lexus this car is everything I wanted!! 🏁❤️🇺🇸
That's great but you wouldn't be within .6 seconds of a ZL1 1LE if you drove both cars. You're citing a difference in driver skill. The 1LE is MUCH more potent on a track. The ZL1 is better for daily or highway driving though.
That engine start up and exhaust! I love this car so much. I remember at the houston autoshow they brought it and I flipped out.

It won't let you shift into 2nd or 3rd gear when you are rolling in first gear at around 5 mph, or it won't let you shift down when you are near the red line.
It is really not an issue when driving, I only noticed it when I touched the shifting paddles by accident and that message showed up

I love the 2015+ Mustangs but Ford made them a little too big and about 300 lbs too heavy. The new Camaro doesn't look very good and isn't as practical as the Mustang but it is a great drivers car. The 2018 Mustang has really narrowed the performance gap though...
I love my mustang but it’s no where as fast or quick as these new cars without a doubt 😂 I love it though, good starter these 99-04 mustangs are, and they sound good too! Got a Pypes off-road h pipe and Flowmaster super 44 mufflers on mine, sounds fast, just isn’t that fast, well it is for me since I only drive a 97 Ford Ranger before getting this.

I'm so glad you have such a positive opinion about my fav car, and I'm impressed too about how many stuff it has
I had the opportunity to drive a few of these when I sold Chevys and believe me they are beasts. Spent 3 days at a Chevy track event and besides the ZL1 and SS trims I also got to drive its biggest rivals..Mustang and Challenger. Mustang felt a little better on the turns and the Challenger was more roomy with a better outward visibility. But the Camaro just had a perfect blend of everything a true muscle car guy wants.
Interesting story about the "flowtie": During a track test day, one of the engineers (can't remember his name) was wondering why the engine was getting close to overheating after only a few runs. He noticed that the bowtie might have been getting in the way of airflow to the radiator, so while the car was cooling down, he popped the bowtie off, then used a dremel to hollow it out. His modification allowed the car to make more runs and stay within acceptable temps. So they kept it.

I've been a fan of the Camaro since the '07 Transformers movie, been in love with it from that point on! The ZL1 is not the kind of Camaro I would use or need, I mean, a 650 HP car is not for just anybody, obviously! Unless you use it on a track on a regular basis. But the base Camaro would probably suit me just fine as a commute car, you know, to go to work and back home, but I'm a bit of a showoff, so I might have a little fun with it with loud music blasting for the speakers, actually, I already do that with my own car! But I have to say, I simply love the look, it's agressive and to me, one of the coolest cars ever made, I certainly like the look of the Mustang and even the Challenger, but the Camaro hits the bullseye for me, maybe one day, I'll get one myself and enjoy it to the fullest, as it should be! Nice review, Doug!

You get all that on a base model 320i or C300 which is the most basic bmw and Mercedes.
Mike Wrx haha oh man you're extremely biased if you actually think you get a carbon/aluminium interior when buying a base model bmw. I'm from germany myself and in fact many driving schools use base model BMWs over here and them base models don't even have leather seats let alone carbon fiber and aluminium panels. Some german cars don't even have air conditioning if you don't pay extra cash. No offence but it is how it is. Us germans make jokes about having to pay extra for pretty much anything even if it's something ordinary like normal leather seats.
ZL1's are about 75k now near me. I considered a used one but then decided I wanted a new car for once. My new Mustang GT was about 60k. I settled that that. Everything was cheaper a few years ago. I wish I was in the market for a muscle car then.
I have watched a lot of Doug’s reviews - he seems to laugh the most in the ZL1 review. That REALLY speaks to how special this car is....

This car, paradoxically, is a slow burner. When you get inside, it's weaknesses show first ( gimmicky plastic, bad visibility. Yet, as you start it up and then drive you forget about the first impressions
Maybe one day I'll have one. Mean while, I run a 4th gen Z28 in the UK. The back seat folds as down as well and reduces the interior space by 50%. It's bumpy and firm ... largely uncomfortable for a 6ft 2 guy, very reliable though, goes like stink but the plastics rubbish. I love it! What a great car! You can always rely on the US for an insane great muscle car. So glad Chevrolet thought up this monster.

-Steering is very precise.

A 7 is a good score, and keep in mind his system is biased toward supercars and ultra luxury cars so his standards are higher.
Rode in my boss’s 2021 ZL1 last night, I’ve driven the first generation ZL1 from 2012 but the newest one has almost 100hp more and you can tell the difference immediately. The 2012 wasn’t nearly as aggressive looking either, the newer ones look badass. It was a total blast. That 650hp supercharged V8 has got some real balls

Have to agree with Walter. The 60's to the 80's (and a very few select cars from the 90's) were the true golden age of cars. Those times real revolutionary cars came out. Although impressive, cars like this Camaro will never be looked back at as an iconic car.
