    The key to a good crossover is rarely the crossover itself. It’s the fake that comes before the cross that makes it effective. And in order for your fake to be effective, one of 2 things needs to occur: 1. You have an extremely fast move to the position you are faking or 2. You have an extreme deception in your fake (pivoting all your weight convincingly to the fake side before shifting back towards the real move) this isn’t easy because if you pivot all your weight to one side, you will be slower to be able to now switch to going in the other direction, which is why the best fakes are usually from super fast people/moves that force the defender to commit their weight very quickly to be able to defend against the move that is being faked. So basically it’s less about your handle and more about your agility, however, ball handling and deception are still of great importance.

    • @CoachFrikki
      @CoachFrikki  Před rokem +46

      Good points. The secret is faking forwards, not to the side. That will shift the defender easier. And makes exploding the other way much faster & smoother.

      Maybe that’s why I could never get the Philly/hesi cross to really work…. I always faked to the side rather than forwards.

    3:50 fun fact to clarify the "push out cross " is originally known as the "in and out crossover" very effective and can use it to play tricks on your defenders eyes when you combine it with a "pull up gather"

    • @MrCHRIS-lv1fw
      @MrCHRIS-lv1fw Před rokem +7

      Push out cross and in n out cross are two different crossover moves.
      Push out cross basically means you push the ball using an in n out move to get the ball out of your frame then cross it over.
      Meanwhile in the in n out cross you need to sell the in n out first then counter it with a cross

      Took me a while to realize the difference but theyre not the same. With an in and out you're faking the opposite direction of the hand the ball is in. And then you can cross to counter the defense sliding over which would make an in and out cross.
      With the push out cross you're doing the in and out move but you're moving in the direction of the ball hand and you're not trying to sell the in and out but the drive.

    Watching this video, you can also learn from a defensive perspective. There are certain ball handlers with which you have a better chance of success if you are more aggressive, ie shade them to one side, get in their shot pocket, etc. I'm not saying you'll stop them, but you certainly can make them work for every point they get.

      BTL setup would be to go between the legs, then hang the ball and do a hesi.
      Hesi btl could mean a few things - did I use it in somewhere. Could mean doing a hanging hesitation then counter between the legs.
      Different trainers use different vocabularies. Put your own words on these moves that help you create a system that's easy to understand and remember: Setups, moves and counters.

    At 5:39 you said use the push crossover if there's of space between you. When you say between you, do you mean a lot of space between you and the defender? I'm asking because I always do the push crossover when the defender is sagging off and I want to attack. It's been very effective for me, especially when he's back pedaling.

    • @CoachFrikki
      @CoachFrikki  Před rokem

      Yeah space between you and your defender.
      The push cross works best if you have space to work with, you can run with momentum at your defender and throw the ball far out to the side.

      @@CoachFrikki I have been studying the usage of the off arm in your other videos. I got into the paint and finished a lot through contact yesterday. There's multiple ways to use the off arm. You can grab his back elbow, give a quick swipe, or you can play extremely close to your defender. Everyone's grab, hold, and seal will be different, according to body build and hand speed. The players who can get their arm in front of the handcheck with a back elbow touch or a slight grab of the elbow are the light, elusive, and agile players. The tank build players such as the Tim Hardaway's or Isiah Thomas of the bad boy Pistons like to crowd and control the moving space of the defense with an arm bar. I like to close the gap and dig my off arm into his chest like a tight arm bar and then bump him before going up. Sometimes I like to get my off arm infront of the handcheck and cradle the ball far from the defender and do a last second nudge or even slightly hold on to him while doing an extension layup off one leg. It prevents the shot blocker from either jumping altogether or barely getting off the floor. Have you seen anyone cradle the ball with one hand and tightly bump with the offarm without pushing off? If so what do you think of it? Effective or no?

      Knew I was gonna get roasted for that haha. Seriously though my 2 main reasons were
      1) Not a huge fan of the way he does his "killer" BTL crossover. His BTL crossover is quick and hard while jabbing forwards. It's really hard to keep ball control and balance while accelerating from that position. I prefer teaching a slower BTL dribble setup (gives the defense more time to fall for the fake) like I mention at 2:06. It's more effective in my opinion from experimenting with both ways and watching Harden cross everybody up with that slow BTL dribble.
      2) Almost every damn clip of him was in a bad quality
      No disrespect Tim Hardaway though. He's a legend and I'll put him in a video soon.

    • @leogonzales4634

      @@CoachFrikki I wouldn't say that's more effective. Hardaways dribble was always between the legs then cross. It's was predictable, but no one can stop it.
