    Thanks for the great video! Been using TTP as per your advice and enjoying it a lot. As for Verbal CR, I have been having trouble with the streaks. I can manage the consecutive Easy/Medium streaks, but the 700+ streaks becoming really time consuming. For example, for Method of Reasoning 700 questions, it is taking several days and even just one insanely hard question throws off the streak. Did you perfectly follow the streak each time? Any input on this would be appreciated because I've been feeling overwhelmed and feel like I'm spending a lot of time obsessing over these streaks whereas I should be moving on to new content.

    • @Dcummins
      @Dcummins  Před 4 lety +1

      I think you need to apply judgement.
      Method of reasoning questions are asked less frequently than strengthen/weaken for example. If you can get a streak of 5 700 level questions on those then I'd move on.
      But, I'd constantly revise flashcards containing questions that break your streak and the reason you were unable to see the flaw in logic or whatever it was required to answer the question.
      Also, try alternate to other things then come back to it. Sometimes that helps.
      Its a very hard method, but it works. I spent a week on 700 level Weaken the Argument questions prior to getting my 710.

    Dan, thank you for the video. I´ve completed so far around 50% of TTP. It´s really, really good.
    I have a couple of questions for you. I hope you can help me.
    1. Did you complete 100% of the TTP course?
    2. After finishing with TTP, is there any other supplemental quant material that you´d recommend to keep practicing? (For example, GMAT Club Tests)

    • @Dcummins
      @Dcummins  Před 4 lety +1

      Yes I completed 100% of the course; however, I think there are some questions in the TTP question bank that are revealed only in custom quizzes, so the overall proportion of the course completed may be less, but yes I completed all modules, all tests.
      A lot of people ask this... I understand that its a long course, but it works as good as it does because of its rigour. You can't cut corners, as those corners you cut will ripple into tiddlewaves of weaknesses down the track.
      After you complete the course you need to fine tune and refine your weak points.. doing new questions blindly is pointless.
      Develop the concept and accumen as you progress through the course, then refine weakpoints afterwards.
      In saying this, I did use GMAT Club Quant tests aftwards, but only for WEAK topics. I manually selected the topic, then worked my way up in difficulty on the questions. The questions on there are fairly tough though, so don't be demoralised.

      Firstly it’s not the resources you use. It’s your logical approach to the test in that you do a bit of content and then an insane amount of questions to tweak and master that content. Hence the streaks method.
      Now that I’ve clarified this.
      For the content I used Aristotle SC. I used Manhattan in my early days but didn’t find it that useful.

      @Dcummins  Před 4 lety +2

      Thank you so much Sagar! I've been really run down with consulting work, but I whole heartedly plan on making more videos to help everyone.
      I think formal logic is taught at least in some regard during CR. Powerscore's book teaches formal logic in some areas. For example, they talk about the various argumentation flaws in 'method of reasoning' and mention 'ad hominen' among others.
      I think the most important piece of advice is to take a topic by topic approach. Topic + content ---> then shit load of questions that topic to develop proficiency in it, but start at sub-600, 600, then 700 level difficulty.
      The thing I've noticed is that people don't really appreciate just how many questions it can take to actually understand a concept or nail proficiency. I have a non-native student that used the streaks method and burnt through all the sub-600 Modifiers questions to get a streak of 15 questions consecutively correct. After this, he never got another question incorrect because he knew how to answer the questions i.e. it was just programmed into his brain

    Hi Daniel, as we alternate between quant and verbal, do we have to finish each topic or can we pick up we’re we left off the following day?
    How many hours should we be studying each day?
    And do you recommend studying before work or after work?
    I typically study for 2 to 3 hours after work, but maybe my score may improve if I study before work???

    • @Dcummins
      @Dcummins  Před 4 lety

      Hey Tiffany, good to chat to you the other day. You can pick up where you left off on a given topic.
      In terms of hours, I recommend trying to knock off a few objectives and let the objectives determine how many hours you should study, not the other way around.
      Before work is significantly better...almost not comparable. In my experience, even if you find you have the energy and motivation to study after work, your retention is usually shit. Also, interpersonal interactions throughout the day stick inside our subconscious and re-emerge later in the day. You might go pour yourself a cup of tea and thing 'damn, tomorrow I need to speak to John Smith about report xyz'. These interactions cloud our judgement and block retention to some degree.
      The biggest thing that improves someone's score is taking a topic by topic approach. In fact, there is so much noise around what this actually means that I might need to do a very brief explanation video.

    Thank you so much for your videos and study strategies. It truly means the world! Quick question: Are you saying that we review a given subsection's content then complete the given streak questions (all levels) before moving on to another topic? If so, as time progresses will the topics we studied first not start to fade in memory?

    • @Dcummins
      @Dcummins  Před 4 lety

      Excellent question.
      The aim of the streaks method is to master the content. With Verbal - in all honest once you master the question sets during what i've referred to as 'saturation' you will effectively develop a fairly high baseline level of skill. The streaks won't be achieved uniformly, so some will take you longer to achieve than others.
      Weaken the argument type questions, for example, were a weak point (the irony i know) for me. I spent almost a week training to nail 700-level weaken the argument streaks.
      You may need to apply judgement and move on if you find yourself spending this long on one particular streak.
      The streaks that are harder to achieve will in effect be your weak areas, so once you complete the streaks i.e. complete saturation you will then enter the practice test / refinement phase, during which you will really focus only on weaker areas or areas in which you struggled to achieve streaks.
      Hope that answers the question.

    Hi Dan, your advice has been extremely helpful. I have cleared almost all the 500 and 600 questions by topics (both un-timed and timed) according to your method, which is to get 10 questions correct in a row. However I am stuck with 670 Q48 V34, and I am not able to do the same for the 700 questions. For example, CR weaken argument questions, my record is only 8 correct answers in a row, and I only get to that level after days (I usually could get to that level for easier questions in just a few hours). Streak on 700 questions just seem too difficult to achieve. What do you suggest? Thanks

    • @Dcummins
      @Dcummins  Před 3 lety +1

      A streak of 8 700 official questions correct on a specific topic is still pretty good. Try for 10, but if you set a limit of one week on just 700 level questions for that same topic and at the same time start up the next topic.
      E.g. if you are stuck on 700 level weaken the argument questions (I was as well) then keep working on it, review your flashcards everytime you break your streak, then after 3-4 days of being on the topic you still haven't hit your streak then move on to the next CR topic, for example, Strengthen the argument. Then at the end of 1 week if you still haven't hit that 700 level streak but you get close (as in your case you hit 8 questions) then just drop it and move on. If you don't get anywhere near 10 questions correct on a given streak difficulty e.g. 4 or 6 out of 10 correct, then you must focus on the topic until you get it correct. Once you get 10, you can get 11 and so on.. the process does work.
      The transformation you undertake in the process of achieving streaks is rewiring your brain to undo poor habits, reprogram new ones. Because in order to achieve a streak you must let go of bad habits and learn new ones necessary to do so.

    2) Does TTP separate their tests and homework questions based on difficulty level? I just completed the Veritas Prep Course and followed their study guide but I still bombed the GMAT
    3) What if I do quant in an hour but I don't get through that quant topic, do i go back to that same quant topic after doing an hour of verbal or do i move on to another quant topic?

    • @Dcummins
      @Dcummins  Před 4 lety

      Hi Tiffany,
      1. Per Day? 2-4 hours if you have a full-time job. 4 hours is really pushing it. Per week, anywhere from 20 to 30 hours per week
      2. in TTP tests are separated from concepts, but questions are integrated into the each concept as you progress through a given topic. This enables you to actively learn. You could have bombed for many reasons. It’s often not the way you approach the test as opposed to the resource you use. TTP just dictates that its students approach the test in the best way.
      3. Yes precisely. I suggest taking an objectives based approach as per the video, so some objectives could plausibly take you a few days to complete. So, I suggest that you try and mentally aim to at least progress through the objective. E.g. If your objective is to complete learning the Geometry chapter in TTP, then you could break it down into 4 distinct milestones: 1. When you you complete 25% of the course; 2. When you complete 50%, 3. 75%, 4.100%. Then, you could break down your proficiency phase (completing tests and achieving streaks or success criteria in those tests) in similar fashion.
      Hope this helps

When I used Veritas prep, I followed their regiment despite only getting around 50% to 60% correct on the homework for each concept.
      2) do you honestly think TTP helped you because you had already been studying for so long? If you could redo your studying all over again, do you think you could have achieve the same result with just TTP and tutoring?
      3) do you do anything to calm your anxiety during studying or in the actual test. I just got my result back yesterday and I got a 430, so my anxiety is through the roof right now.

    Dear Dcummins, while we utilize the tracker for streak method, is it fine to switch to a different topic when say, I have successfully completed a streak for 600-700 level questions under CR - Assumptions? • @Dcummins
      @Dcummins  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi Sagar, thanks for your question. Its best to stick to the same topic within that Sub-section. I.e. don't do both assumptions and, for example, strengthen, at the same time as you need to master the method of solving each question type before you proceed to learning to solve the next question type.
      You need to apply judgement though.. you cant spend months or even weeks on the 700-level assumption questions for example but you can spend 1 week on them (I did this and it as it was a weaker topic for me). If you find that you can't get a 700-level streak by a particular time, say 1.5 weeks absolute max (1 week for just 700-level assumption questions is pushing it, or any topic for that matter), then move on to the next topic. Flag that topic as a weaker topic and come back to it to eventually get the 700-level streak.
      Only do this for 700 level streaks though. Easy and Medium questions you MUST master to get a 700+ level score. But 700 level questions you just need to get at least SOME correct.
