He is not only an inspiration for mountaineers :) He is an example of a incredible human with purpose and integrity behind everything he does. I wish I was like him on so many levels.

Amazing man. Every statement he makes resonates as absolute truth, on any level. He is the best a human being can achieve and live by.

Messner was first. Messner sold his things so he can climb all those mountains. That's why Messner climbed the mountains in 16 years and Kukuczka in 3. Also, Messner lost his brother-this had a huge impact . Yes you are right, the Kukuczka pace was better, he climbed faster. But.....Messner climbed Everest without supplemental oxygen.
      Kukuczka needed oxygen on Everest.

@@hydranim7325 Yeah but Kukuczka climbed more difficult routes such as the "Polish Line" on K2. By many experts, considered probably one of the hardest, most challenging lines possible in high altitude climbing. Both were superb climbers and certainly not far off from each other. However, Kukuczka has done more "first accents" on new very technical routes, even some of them during winter. I am NOT SURE if Kukuczka had more raw skills than Messner, but he did took much greater risks to accomplish the very hardest routes. While Messner was the more interesting climber, often with a deeper sense of "self-evaluation". Messner relied on his instincts and whenever he felt it was too dangerous he would not shy to turn back. That is exactly why Messner is still alive while Kukuczka is not.

@@Augenhose I think Messner himself called the Polish Line on K2 'suicidal'.
