    What exactly does notching out do? Does it just mute the audio? If you notch out foil, and then you scan over a gold ring with a piece of foil above it, will the detector see through the foil and only detect the ring?

    nice job Hunter. With either one will the object still be detected but the machine won't make a tone associated with the item or items that were notched out and/or discriminated out correct?

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  Před 5 lety

      Thanks Mark. Depends on the detector I guess. I know some of them will still show an ID for a disced or notched out section. But the audio is just muted basically. Others will not show ID for those sections, and only show ID for the "in" sections. Others allow you to adjust the volume and tone pitch for the notched section. Hope that was what you meant.

    So if I notch out pull tabs I will miss gold rings?

  • @canyadigitmetaldetectingwi7897

    I have always wondered if there were other benefits to using one over the other. I have heard using discrimination you can lose depth. So is it better to run without discrimination? Does Notch or Disc still detect the metal being filtered, just not make a sound. My point I am trying to explain is that if the detector is processing a filtered/ disc signal just not sending a tone, is there still a recovery time between that and a good signal. So if you had a junk target next to a good target and the junk target was disc out, would the good target get missed because of it? Sorry if I went a little too deep for this topic.

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  Před 5 lety +2

      No worries Roger. Nothing is too deep and it is a great question. It will depend on the detector and process setup. Some detectors like the T2 have no notch and rely only on disc. The process is pretty good on it being pure digital, so it does not lose as much depth as say and analog machine like a Tesoro or Vista that uses high disc. AT Pro - T2/F75 - Anfibio - Nox...they are all digital so do not suffer as badly. The processor just knows how to deal with it better that an analog circuit. In a nutshell - yes - it is better to run zero disc. However, that can be mentally fatiguing and IMO the loss of depth being so minimal on some recent machines, I do not consider it a huge handicap in comparison to mental fatigue.
      As far as does the detector see the disced out signal - yes. If you disc or notch something out it often shows up on the ID still (detector dependent)...but just not sound off. So it must be processing the signal to provide that ID number. So in turn it will affect recovery and separation etc. So an adjacent target can 100% be missed if the target next to it is disced. You may miss the iron wrap around in the audio or something like that. Disc is not magic...it is more of a "do you want it" over "do you need it". If a person can live with the extra info without frustration....0 disc is almost always the best option. Hopefully that helps!

    I see you're using the Magic Coil again (watched your review of that as well). Strongly recommended to work with along with the stock coil for my new F75+? Does not seem too expensive compared to many others. Do you have any suggestions for the *best* sniper type coil?

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  Před 5 lety

      Yeah, for sure this size is great to go along next to the stock 11dd. Very similar to the 5x10, just stubbier. It separates as well as the 5dd sniper. So only benefit I see for the small sniper is around rocks and shrub where the 5x8 cannot fit. Performance is similar being 5 wide each.

    What do you d0 when you want include gold?

    • @thehuntergt
      @thehuntergt  Před 5 lety +2

      You dig it all above iron and focus on repeatable signals. Gold lands from foil to zinc...so a true hardcore gold hunter will dig every mid range signal that is repeatable.
