Make sure you check inside the diaphragm for blockage. I tested everything on my pool equipment, hoses, suction pressure, and they were all fine. Took the head assembly apart and checked all components, all looked fine. Reassembled, tried on pool again, not moving. Took head apart again to replace the diaphragm, pulled the old one off and found a piece of wood, probably mulch piece, stuck inside the diaphragm above the thin portion that could not be seen from either top or bottom view without removing diaphragm. I could have saved 30-40 minutes if I had checked that first. All good now!
The two work together very efficiently If your vacuum gets stuck by the stairs, try moving the weight rings. I think I found the perfect place for them after trying a few times. All in all a great pool vac for the price. I should have bought this a long time ago.
My barracuda works for short spasms and then stops. I have checked the diaphragm and hoses and doesn't seem to be any holes or tears. am confused as to what do next? Will follow your directions and hope I can fix it
I had same issue. For some reason the whole rod part that diaphram is attached to had come a bit unscrewed (i assume from vibrating over time it unscrews...but it was only in user a month). Anyway i just screwed it all the way back in and worked again ok.
We did all your tests and troubleshooting and still no movement on the vacuum...any other suggestions? Thank you for the video though, was very helpful
If the diaphragm opening gets wider, any tear, it gets slowed about a year, its time to replaced the diaphram. If your casette always get unscrewed, place a rubber band across casette thread, this will solve that problem. If you bought a cheap stiff Fins doesn't move or got stuck in the corner, copy from the old fins, cut 4 places this will lessen the stiffness.
My barracuda starts working but then stops after a couple of minutes. Replacd the diaphragm cleaned the filter and replaced the hose. What should I do next.

I have had perfect suction and good barracuda work ... until the time I replaced a torn diaphragm, It used to be yellow, the new ones are beige. Stiffer, and a tad wider. My problem started immediately. I have done everything, checked each hose section for leaks, measured the pressure at the skimmer box, at the end of a hose, and the problem boiled down to that damn diaphragm. It is rubbing/pressing to the inside of the housing, therefore slightly deformed, (not free as it should be) and a deformed diaphragm is unable to hold a correct slit (it is permanently open) resulting in no action. I measured the old (yellow) and new (beige) diaphragm, and that one is about 1 - 2 mm wider! Also stiffer than the previous (yellow) diaphragm. And folks, there is our problem. How to solve it? I am baffled, that the pool experts failed to notice this problem. Replacing that junk barracuda diaphragm - in mind with my observations above.
Hi there, I have a question. The automatic weir valve of my pool stays open when I turn the pump on not allowing a lot of suction to happen and this stops my barracuda from moving or being able to suck a few leaves at a time. Why is it staying open if there’s nothing in the pipes
My baracuda isn't working.. the suction is strong.. well i feel to strong that it's sucking the tongue to hard making the tongue stay closed.. please advise how do i sort this problem out?
Mine sucks, haha. Seriously, it moves about the pool, but the coverage is awful, maybe 30% of the pool gets covered. How do I get it cover the whole pool?
Or if, as in our case, the pool cleaner would hardly move because the bladder was stretched out (no holes or tears) from a crawfish who got in the pool the night before after a big rain, requires replacing the bladder
I have a brand new G3 and after it's been in the pool for a bit it stops moving. I have it connected to the Pentair Vac-mate but have tried connecting it just to the skimmer basket and it's still a no go. Any suggestions?
First, it was not a great design by Zodiac. The diaphragm is prone to tear. My guess would be a large amount of leaves and twigs would cause it to tear. Maybe the suction is too strong. Use the gauge that came with the cleaner and check the suction pressure at the end of the hose.
We have a new zodiac barracuda G3 cleaner. It works for a bit when we first put it in and then stops. Checked and no debris is lodged inside. We are think it’s not getting enough suction pressure. We have two filter baskets. Do we need to close the filter we don’t have the cleaner on? Maybe this is a dumb question... I’m definitely ignorant when it comes to pool care.
Hello Marla - It's possible that the cleaner is not receiving enough suction. The most common cause would be a dirty filter. The lack of suction could also be caused by too many suctions lines open. Try partially or completely closing the main drain line. Doing that should add some suction to the G3 cleaner.
I changed the foot pad still stays always in the same spot and also put a bump ring around and still get stucked the suction is fine diaphragm is new what could it be?Is the suction too high?Iknow it is not low because I could feel and hear the diaphragm 7 pops per second.
I have a zodiac T-5 and I have replaced the feet, both flappers, tried 3 diaphragms, checked the suction using the gauge (3-3.5) and it still the vacuum just sits on the bottom. What else can I do?
My Baracuda is not climbing up an incline like it used to. The diaphragm was just replaced, no leaks from hoses and suction seems good. I replaced two long pieces in it with no improvement and skirt looks OK. Could it be the foot flange? The unit is about 8 years old and pretty much everything else has been replaced. Thanks
It could be the foot flange. The foot flange has channels that wear down over time. When they wear down, less water travels through the cleaner and it starts to stick to the surface. This causes it not to move as easily. Also, the suction may seem strong but it may not be enough to move the cleaner. If you have the suction gauge that came with the cleaner, put that on the last hose and see if it has the proper suction.
I have a relatively new Zodiac G3, which is pulsating fine but not traveling around the pool, Skirt and diaphragm are both fine - no tears at all and nothing stuck in the cleaner. While pulsing, the cleaner seems to sit in a cantilevered position, which as soon as I apply pressure to the built-in counter weight on the front using the pool brush pole, the skirt reseals to the bottom and it starts it moving around again, until it climbs a wall, falls back on itself and sits their pulsing again. Even tried adjusting the hose weight, but to no avail. Help
Hello Kent - Do you still have the suction gauge that came with the cleaner? Use that on the end of the hose to see if you are getting enough suction. Some pool owners will put there hand over the bottom of the cleaner but that is not an accurate way to test the suction.

If the pool is very dirty, I'd recommend a leaf eater. Here is a video about using a leaf eater. czcams.com/video/aDcxMnUPgYw/video.html

The first thing I would check is the suction at the end of the hose. The cleaner should have come with a gauge that tells you if there is enough suction. Some people use their hands to test it but even though it feels strong, it may not be enough.
Wall climbing is different in every pool. Factors like the wall slope and suction will impact the ability of the cleaner to climb the walls. If there is enough suction and an easy transition from the floor to the wall, it should climb the walls fairly frequently.
