    A week or two back I put together this HX Stomp XL pedalboard and it prompted an obvious question - "why not just get a Helix LT?" In this video I'm going over a few game-changing tips to make the absolute most of every preset you design. The fact is, I've been completely happy with the Stomp XL as my all-in-one rig. With an external expression and extra footswitch, there's not muh more I'd want to be able to do in a single preset. Honestly, most people probably do not need the Helix Floor, LT, or Rack and would perfectly served with one of the smaller HX Stomp units.

    Here's a few more tricks:
    1. You can use an expression pedal as a foot switch. One thing I do is I can "swell" in the gain on an overdrive block as it turns on.
    2. Command center. I have one button mapped to long/short press to switch between snapshots. Another switch is mapped to switching to another specific preset.

      I somehow JUST discovered that not long ago. You can assign a bypass function to an expression pedal, selecting at what point it flips over, and even can set a time delay once it passes that point. That definitely opens up a lot of interesting possibilities - a rotary effect with chorus or other modulation as the speed ramps up maybe.

    I use the Stomp for my all around rig for CCM stuff; for greater ease of use, I use an external tuner, dual external footswitches and use snapshot up (command center) as 1 button to use the others as bypass effects

    I bought a small stomp to build a board for p&w around. In the time it took to arrive in the mail I found a local stomp XL and tried it out. I’ve found it to be the perfect size and layout for my needs. I run 2 ODs into it and a delay and reverb in the FX loop and a volume pedal in front of it all. Super small rig but enough buttons to activate everything I need.

  • @Scott__C

    Just saw this and I agree. Most folks will never need all the power of a full on Helix. You could actually run 2 guitars and a bass through it, but at that point, I'd just get each person a Stomp XL. Most folks have clean, OD and lead sounds with effects peppered in each one. The amount of processing power needed for most of that has been surpassed. Boss also use their own processor which I think is more powerful than the SHARC, because the same one is in GT-1000 and the GT-1000 core. It'd be crazy if they put two of those in a rack mount unit.

    Excellent, insightful, and useful tips as always. Thanks
    I'm using the regular HX Stomp, and on a few Presets, I've assigned 2 Blocks to the same footswitch so they will alternately swap which Block is on. Is there a way to additionally turn on/off "both" Blocks using the same footswitch?
    I'd like to have all these options on the same foot switch if possible:
    1. Block A on
    2. Block B on
    3. Blocks A and B on
    4. Blocks A and B off

    • @AlexPriceMusician
      @AlexPriceMusician  Před rokem +1

      I've actually tried this too but it's impossible within a single preset with the bypass function. However if one of those blocks has a mix or intensity control, you can set up a parameter adjustment to go from minimum (ass if the effect were bypassed) to the desired amount (the effect can be heard now) and it'll achieve the same thing.

    You could use the command center to make a hybrid rig, with a switch to snap up and one to snap down, and set the others to stomp... just another idea

    • @AlexPriceMusician
      @AlexPriceMusician  Před rokem +1

      One of my favorites! Combining footswitches and snapshots on the Stomp XL is easy since you can do it in global settings. czcams.com/video/A0gReHM3pnE/video.html
      On the original Stomp, you have to go to Command Center to do this.

    I have another question for you. I've bought a new more portable laptop with windows 11 pro installed on it. I'd like to use HX edit with the new computer. Do you know how I can migrate all my HXstompXL settings over to my new computer? Also, does HX Edit play nice with windows 11?

    • @AlexPriceMusician
      @AlexPriceMusician  Před rokem +1

      Hey Dan - should be seamless. HX Edit only exists to communicate with your device. Everything that's already on your Stomp XL should show up when you connect to your new computer and install HX Edit.

    Добрый день, Alex! Вы не могли бы подсказать, - вот пришла мне новая бас-гитара Squier Affinity Series Precision Bass PJ Laurel Fingerboard с интернет-магазина, - красивая и внешне качественная, НО - довольно сильно фонит! Прикоснёшься рукой к крутилкам или к струнам, сразу тишина, убираешь пальцы, сразу высокочастотный фон! Дело не в шнуре, и не в усилителе, так как менял по всякому, не помогает. При игре стоит шорох и раздаются щелчки от прикосновения к струнам.. Такая картина - это же ненормально? Гитара стоит 400 долларов.. Или же и другие гитары, подороже, также создают фон!? И можно ли что то теперь сделать с этим? Очень жаль отправлять обратно в магазин эту гитару...

      @AlexPriceMusician  Před rokem +1

      I’ve considered it, but I like leaving that to level presets. It’s there and available on every preset then and not locked to a parameter adjustment value. Also I prefer the volume pre-wet effects

    i wonder if Line 6 new that the Helix line would be hijacked by us worship leaders... every time i view a youtube about it its always someone using it for worship... HAHAHA love it. it also could be that were the only ones still using music gear anymore seems like guitars are a thing of the past with this new generation.
