My apologies for my absence but I’ve suffered from some burn out and I also had lots of things going on in my life and also family members who required my attention. I have been caring for my parents for over 7 years. My mom passed in October my dad is 94 with alzheimers so far my dad is still in his home. It is an honor to care for them and it's exhausting overwhelming and financially draining. I HAD to retire early. I have no kids or husband and very little support. I have hired some caregivers. It is more than a full time job. May God bless us, as we navigate this time in both our lives. Best wishes in your new adventure....
I was in the same situation as you. It was exhausting. I also retired early to cope. I lost my mother, second brother, and my father in 3 years. There were a lot of extenuating factors that made it very complicated and tiring. The worst was the lack of support. Our society has become too selfish. People need to reach out and help other people by showing some compassion, and the government needs to understand that family structure has changed and people can be overwhelmed with responsibility. I wish you and your father some peace. Despite the workload and stress there were some very funny and perfect moments in the mix that has left me with some heartwarming memories.
Enjoy your break 😊 My husband and I have helped with aging parents because we have remained in our home town. We own a furniture store here. At the end of each day, my husband says “Thank you for participating in today’s Senior Games!” 😂 Keep your great sense of humor ❤

I downsized after my husband's passing from o a little over 10,000 sq ft. Im going to be 70 years old. My parents are gone over 25 years. I now have a condo easy and breezy. Best of luck with your home and prayers to your family.❤❤❤❤

You are so right! I took care of my mom, too. I felt it was an honor to do so, just as she felt about taking us kiddos. She loved being our mom. It is truly the full circle. Also, when we are caregivers, it helps us with our future grief because we know that we cared for them. It’s the final gift, to both the caretaker and the parent. Gifts from and to each other! 🩵💕🩵

My accountant says it doesn’t pay to go back to work part-time if you are retired and of social security age…you will end up paying much more in taxes….possibly volunteering or helping aging parents will take up your time…and remember to save days for yourself like “spa days”…taking care of yourself is number one! You have a beautiful home and hopefully we will see your new home soon! Good luck to you! 💐💖

If you take soc security at 62 then yes it affects what you earn but if you wait until you are 65/66 then it doesn't affect what you earn at a job.

So sorry you are dealing with so many issues right now. My mother passed away in January 2019. My dad had already been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. By the grace of good we have been fortunate to have 24 hour care for him at home. My sister and I live in the same town as my dad. Every day one of us goes to visit our dad. It can be very stressful at times. My advice is to take care of yourself. While your parents are still able, talk to them and ask any questions you may have always wanted answers to.

Taking care of our aging parents is indeed challenging. It is also a great honor and a privilege. Unfortunately, that part of my journey ended April 1, 2024 after my mother passed from complications of chronic kidney disease. Figuring out what to do next is even harder. I understand the challenges of aging parents and have been dealing with that for several years myself. They are in Florida while I am still working and living in New England. Caring for our parents is a privilege, but not without exhaustion and guilt. Taking care of yourself as well is not selfish, but necessary to maintain your strength and sanity. I highly recommend Roz Chast's book, "Can't We Talk About Something More Pleasant?". She walks us through her process with her parents, including humor, sadness, & many truth-bombs that we will all recognize. Love to you!

Exciting for you! Enjoy your new home and having taken of both my parents in their later years along with sister-it was tiring and sometimes frustrating but we didn’t mind though it was tough. We lost both our parents-my mom recently so I appreciated the time I did get to spend with them.

I also took pictures of every corner of my home when I moved, having a video is optimal and something you’ll treasure. I’ll be interested in seeing your new home after it’s redone. Caring for aging parents isn’t easy. It helps to have parents that are willing to leave their home if need be and move in with or move close to you.

I retired 6 months ago and I am loving setting my schedule everyday. If it is raining I don’t have to get out or walk between buildings as I did at my old workplace on my college campus. I am a homebody so I enjoy staying home a few days per week. But getting out to volunteer at my church or other charities a few days per week is a nice change. My yard is getting in shape too.
It has been an honor and joy to watch you progress over the years. You offer great advice and really care about helping us be our best selves. Our arms are outstretched welcoming you back ehen you are ready.

Congratulations on both your retirement and moving into your dream home! You Are blessed. Treasure the time with your parents. Both of my in-laws are now gone, and we're grieving the loss of my father-in-law who was my dad. We've been working on his estate and clearing out the house for sale. It's a very challenging season of life, and I totally understand the burn out.

Would be interested to hear what you have been going through and how you have managed your burn out. I suffer from burn out when I overdo it - and I am retired. You could take up Bridge when you stop work completely. It gets you in and is good for your brain. Take care 💕

Congrats lady, fantastic, you made laugh with your steamer and the tower I had done that in the past! My only advise as far as taking care of our parents is to be next to them. Elderly people suffer Geriatric Depression and the worst thing is no being active and with new projects like dancing, reading, writing, and exercise! However, the best medicine for them is love, time to play, and attention! God bless you enjoy your new house!

I'm 65 and in the process of massive decluttering and house repairs - for a downsizing move out of state. I haven't moved in 22 years and you're right - it's soooo different now when trying to prepare to move. It's not only physically draining but emotionally draining. It's taking more time than I'd like. I feel like I'm working at this in slow motion. Hopefully by mid-summer, the house will go on the market.
Hi Beth! My life has been really crazy lately too. We are building our dream house, but the process is very hard and stressful. I feel like I am losing my health, mental and physically, and of course all the money. It's approaching time to move, lots of things to select, donate or throw away and deal with it is very scary after 31 years in the current house. Regards from Brazil!
