      I've just removed the valve block to clean and test the solonoids etc
      I already used magnet on a stick to pull as much swarf from the selector sensor magnets in the box as I could.
      Solonoids tested ok for ohms, demagnetised them and cleaned them and checked they were functional then moved onto the valve body.
      Removed the torx bolts then put the unit on end to separate the two halves.
      I heard something drop into the bench looked down and the 2 clutch valve plungers and one of the plastic dowels had fallen out.
      I'm panicking now because they're different colour plungers and I can only find one small spring.
      One is silver one is black, I don't know which came out of which hole and whether both are supposed to have springs or not.😢😢
      The only diagram I can find shows 2springs but also shows different part numbers for the plungers and the solonoids themselves even though both solonoids on the job have the same part number on them.
      So I'm not entirely sure if the diagram is right or not.

    • @prawny12009
      @prawny12009 Před 9 měsíci

      Having watched another video it seems that the silver plunger goes in "csp1 valve" so the black must be for "cps2"
      The other video didn't show cps2 striped down so I'm still not sure if it is supposed to have a spring or not.

    Hi, just wanted to say fair play to you. Your videos are excellent and extremely helpful. I have 2 2010 ford galaxy powershift at the moment giving issues, your video's have been a huge help towards tackling them. Have 1 stripped now, the problem was when slowing down coming to a stop it was dumping into 1st gear way too soon causing car to rev up high, I changed the oil and external filter and car drove approx 1000 kms and it greatly improved but still faulty,drained the new oil and was filthy already, took it apart and valve body and all solenoids are very contaminated, no sign of any plastic pieces,

      @@YepThatsIt all the valves looked like new, I took them all out and examined them and gave them a quick clean with very fine paper and refitted them all, I demagnetised all the solenoids and cleaned them all with brake cleaner, tested them all both cold and heated up in a kettle in a zip lock bag,all good , I replaced the clutch springs and plastic guides( old ones were very worn and loose and starting to break up and also starting to gouge the metal) also replaced the plastic thrust washers(old were worn about 5mm short causing excess movement)replaced the internal oil filter, new main seal, cleaned all the shift magnets ect,bought new metal gaskets for where the valve chest goes on, hopefully get it all back together today.

    Hi sir, thank you very much for this clip, it was very useful. I followed all your steps on the Ford C-Max 2008 and I have a question if the resistance is 2.7 ohms for all the selenoids, does that mean that I have a problem with them and should I change them? Thank you

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  Před rokem

      hi, depends on the temp they are bench tested at. as temp goes up the resistance will go up as well. its good to do what you did, and compare to all the other solenoids as a reference. it is unlikely that they are all faulty. issues also relate to if they are worn/sticking or leaking. cheers

I've opened the valve body and it is very clean ...no plastic pieces inside. But, I have found tiny black flecks of plastic (I think) on top of the in tranny filter and in the oil. Is this likely to be from the clutch retainers? Can I clean out the solenoid s and flush the oil or will I need a rebuild ? Thanks again.

      hi, what is it doing when driving? they don`t have one solenoid operating on each gear. but sounds like one or more solenoids are either still contaminated, leaking or worn. have you got a fault code? in 4th scss, shss2, csss2 and csps2 is operating at high pressure......
      CSPS2 - Clutch/Shift Pressure Solenoid 2 (Even Clutch Pressure Control)
      CSPS1- Clutch/Shift Pressure Solenoid 1 (Odd Clutch Pressure Control)
      CSSS2- Clutch Shift Switching Solenoid 2 (Even Gear Pressure Control)
      CSSS1- Clutch/Shift Switching Solenoid 1 (Odd Gear Pressure Control
      SHSS1 - Shift Select Solenoid 1 (Forks 1 & 3)
      SHSS2- Shift Select Solenoid 2 (Forks 2 & 4)
      SCSS- Shift Cooling Switching Solenoid

After driving for about 20 min the tcm gets to about 70 degrees. But the oil temp then goes up above 125 degrees which puts the car in limp mode. So I'm guessing the oil sensor is faulty. Hello. We have this transmission in MC Mondeo with 207000k on it, never been touched. Car ran aground on some blue stone pitches damaging underside of car (minimal). Did not touch the engine or trans though. Was only 50m from destination and made it there no problems. Checked underneath for leaks etc OK. Left to return home and almost immediately seemed to skip gears and engine light came on. Then after parking in driveway no reverse. Scanned with G scan and get Pressure control sol C stuck on and pressure control sol D stuck off. Erased codes and tried to start but car is now in reverse. Raised the front wheels and started in N, definently in reverse, does not like it when you try to move to P or D. Eventually light came back and forward gear was available but no reverse again. Is it worth changing/cleaning solenoids for this problem?

      hi, ideally you need to warm solenoids up to around 90 deg C and also test resistances as some fail when warmed up but ok at lower temps. to flush, its best to dismantle , clean and reassemble. however if that is too difficult, we demagnetize the solenoid and flush for best results. we also have a large ultrasonic cleaner ( unused for years ) and have found that if the metallic debris isnt able to exit solenoid easily, it will just get stuck inside it somewhere, even if it is demagnetized prior to ultrasonic cleaning. as long as you test resistances warmed up and flush as best you can, and solenoid isnt leaking or having steady operation through amperage ramping, you wont have a problem. cheers

      hi, depends on your scantool. sometimes it an also refer to 4th shft. you will be wise to not chase a specific solenoid and bench test them all ( make sure you warm them up as well ) as they can fail when they warm up too. if you place solenoids in a plastic bag and immerse in boiling water a few times -do not use a heat gun as you can damage the solenoid. maybe watch all my 6dct450 vids too czcams.com/play/PLQLkuOdKuFotLWdTOl3KCK0xpgTu7CEJH.html cheers

    • @PermanentWTF
      @PermanentWTF Před 3 lety

      @@YepThatsIt as I know, the biggest change in 451 compared to 450 was that clutch was separated from a dual-mass flywheel, making a flywheel dry. This prevents oil getting contaminated by dust from the flywheel, improving overall reliability. Since solenoid failures are usually coming from a contaminated oil, such design must be way better. And it should be easier to buy and replace flywheel or clutch since they shouldn't be sold as one assembly anymore.

      hi, here I was thinking/impression you were some dct guru testing my knowledge ! ( no offence intended ) is trans selecting through all odd gears shown on your scan tool or is it jumping some/ or shudder when going into some? and what is happening with reverse? on these transmissions as with most modern transmissions, there is never only one solenoid operating in one gear, always 2 or more operating.... without knowing more information I can`t really tell you...also if you have access to solenoid application chart, be wary that on different dct/dsg models different solenoids are used for application of solenoids and also named differently, depending on which manual you have some just indicate generic solenoid applications.....this is what stuffs up many people and also why most don`t muck around and replace the whole valve body-mechatronic unit...and then having said all that, on these transmissions you NEVER only test or replace the specific solenoid showing up as a fault on your scan tool....test them ALL and double test the ones your scan tool indicates. cheers

    • @YepThatsIt
      @YepThatsIt  Před 4 lety +1

      hi, even plastic solenoids become contaminated as solenoids are electro magnets. only difference is if the coil is moulded around the copper winding, the fine metallic debris can`t get in between the copper wire winding as much. the debris will still get in and around the internals and workings of the solenoid. the metal solenoids can be dismantled and cleaned, however sometimes the plunger guides wear out, so cleaning won`t fix problem for long. the coils can and will sometimes also only fail when warmed up, so really good idea to test them warmed up upto around 90 degC. do not warm up with heat gun as you will most often damage a potentially good solenoid. we warm ours up in like an oven where we can set temp to whatever we like and it is thermostatically regulated so won`t overheat. the power supplies are on line...look for variable DC power supply, ideally one with adjustable amperage too. we often also test our solenoids at max on our powsupp which is 30V ( for very short time ) after when we flush solenoids and retest...idea is if there is still any metallic debris in there that is magnetic, it will magnetize the debris and then solenoid will show up as sticky/binding again. you will then need to demagnetize and flush/test again go through process until you get a good clean solenoid that does not get sticky after higher voltage is given. you have to be wary though some solenoids arent tested with voltage but with varying the amperage/current. have fun cheers
