  • This is how I got around my lost key problem without spending any money.
Now any one can just start the truck with any key.
WARNING: This is for folks that don't mind if their vehicle is not secure. my truck is a work truck that I store in a garage.

Philip, after the hundred something videos I watched on how to do this you're the only one that actually nailed it on how to remove or turn the ignition with no key. thank you! your advice was great!

@@happylucky29 Someone tried to rip my 1998 silverado, if I drill it there would that damage the housing as I want to put a new ignition in.
Thanks! Get back to me asap!

@@uprite88 the holes are in the ignition switch. If you change the ignition switch the damage is contained in the ignition switch.

If you take plastic box off below it has 2 small screws holding it on and turn thing in the box will start truck and turn thing in steering column to unlock steering wheel and nothing is needed but a small screwdriver

Do you remember what drill bit type and drill was used? I’m trying the same thing to fix my truck but can’t drill very far.

Well, now that you can turn it to accessory, you can remove the cylinder and replace it.🙂

So you just lucky guessed the two precise places to drill 5/32 holes to unlock that cylinder and unlock the transmission and the steering wheel at the same time ? That was some extraordinary luck. Because there are two other spots around 12 and 6 o'clock that must have been similar to those two you did drill at 9 and 2 o'clock that you didn't drill ? That kind of luck is very unusual don't you think ? I appreciate to learn about this through your up load. But I think there has got to be more to this story.
I've seen cars that theives have torn up steering columns to steal cars before to get to the rod that is what that lock cylinder actuates. And I've seen cylinders popped out traumatically so a screw driver can start it and drive away. But this is better than any thief seems to know about. A guy could put a dab of grey caulking in those two holes and use any Chevy key and not appear to be a stolen car ? Even a cop wouldn't be able to tell unless he tried a bunch of keys and realized that any key would work. That is stumbling across what many car theives have wished they knew about . Very quick and quiet and doesn't look stolen. Three cheers for you. Thanks for sharing. I pray no crooks watch this.

Just luck. I was about to give up and drilled those spots with a drill bit that I assumed was the right size.
I don't have this truck anymore, but I was driving it like this for a while.
The black plastic finger turn that covers the cylinder was held on with a black sheet rock screw.
Glad you found the video useful.
      Cheers

    • @happylucky29
      @happylucky29  Před 3 lety

Look closer at 1:09. You can clearly see where to drill. It's two notches in the groove around the part of the cylinder that moves.

Lol the screwdriver didn't work cause you have to pop out the key cylinder mechanism and then use the screwdriver
