Lmao, never stronger competition. Almost 37-year old is number 1 and competing with 20 years younger kids. Djokovic had to make billion unforced errors in this match in order for Sinner to beat him. Sinner with his best tennis ever wouldn't take more than 9 games to a prime Djokovic. The guy is literally a Berdych v2. Average good tennis player.

Djoko, at 36 years old, still has the athletic condition and mental strength of the absolute top: a master class.
If you win it (and by that score), well, he is simply monstrous.
Sinner hits the ball well in advance and his ball trip at supersonic speed: even following him on the screen becomes tiring.

I have seen a lot of fans making excuses for Djokovic elsewhere (the scheduling, the sun, made a lot of unforced errors....). Truth is: Djokovic simply wasn't prepared for this level, I have said it earlier in the tournament: the Mannarino match meant nothing. He wasn't prepared to face returns like Sinner can (Sinner is with Medvedev and Djokovic the best returner on tour currently, look up the stats). Djokovic got some practice against Fritz in facing big serves, but Fritz isn't nearly as good as Sinner. Meanwhile Sinner had to face Kachanov (serve) and Rublev and already was in a higher gear. If they face again, Djokovic can win again (or lose), but todat was about which gear they were at. Btw, a lot of 'unforced erros' are forced in some way...

@@mickaellandry9726 Just rewatch the match and you can see Djokovic actually played a lot of good points, also points which he lost but Sinner pushed him with power, precision, returning, getting extra balls back. It's what I said in my comment: Sinner was in a higher gear. A gear Djokovic has showed so many times in his career. So yes, in that way Djokovic played badly > badly compared to Sinner, but Djokovic would have won against neigh on every other player on tour. The margins by which Djokovic won in recent years are so slim, last year he had a 90% win on tie-breaks which is absurd. Everyone who understands tennis a little knows it is already about very slim margins at the top, being 0,1% less for Djokovic on a day just results in a loss also for him.

The fact Novak missed a lot isn’t only a “bad day” factor . It comes from Sinner’s strength first of all . The Serbian never had any simple ball to play, he had to do extra work every single point, sinner left him really nothin on the court . So that’s it , maybe we can start talking about the end of an era , maybe not , but definetly in the last few months something has changed in the tennis circuit . In Italy we have been waiting for a player like this for decades. No, since always.
The last 20 years, in particular, have been really poor with satisfactions.
At the beginning of 2019 I decided to watch one of Gianluigi Quinzi's last matches (for some time this guy seemed to be really promising), a quarter-final of the Bergamo Challenger, hoping for a final comeback.
Well, on the other side of the court there was this skinny 17 years kid who I had heard about as a talent but had never seen play before. I couldn't believe what I saw, he literally made holes in the court.
The growth has been quite gradual (more then Alcaraz, just to say), and surely he still to improve phisically and on slower surfaces, but since at least 6 months we can finally say: WE GOT OUR TOP PLAYER.

Jannik delivered a severe lesson to the undisputed tennis champion (for now). He defeated him decisively on the tennis court, though there will be moments when the old champion may have a chance to redeem himself. However, Jannik is a champion in other aspects where the old champion can never win or recover: he has never insulted referees, never smashed rackets, never used restroom breaks to weaken the opponent and sway the match in his favor, never mocked the audience, never used the crowd against the opponent, and never dared to do things that a man (beyond being a tennis player) should do to be an example. I believe Jannik has clearly won off the court without the old champion ever having a chance of recovery
