  • Like Shaw House next door, the office elevators in the much older Shaw Centre are now being modernized with Schindler PORT (overlay mod). At time of filming, only Elevator C was undergoing mod while the rest were still untouched. However the floor buttons have been covered and a new destination display has been added.
All six elevators were originally installed in 1972 and, according to old newspaper articles about this building, had computerized controllers (maybe Aconic?). They probably had R-Series fixtures. In the 1990s they were modernized with new controllers and M-Series touch buttons, and remained so until around 2012/13 when they were refurbished with new interior and fixtures. Finally in 2022 they were given a second mod, this time with PORT destination dispatch. IMO the refurbished elevators look quite nice, wish they kept that after the mod. Also look how old the landing doors are, which are fortunately retained after the mod.
Annoyingly these elevators are always busy as not only they serve all floors but also the parking floors, thus resulted long waiting time. Elevators A to C are the only one that stop at 27.
    • UPDATE (10 May 2023): Elevator C has finished the mod while Elevator B was the next to be modded.

    Went to this shopping centre in Brunei called The Mall, and they have really awesome Schindler Elevators. If i'm not mistaken, there was about 13 altogether;
    - 5 Mall Passengers
    - 1 Service Passengers ( OOS )
    - 1 Staff's Mall
    - 1 Freight Elevator
    - 4 Guests ( Hotel Side )
    - 1 Staff's Hotel.
*All elevators have the capacity of 24 persons, except the freight elevator.
Mall ( Accessible on level LB to 3 only )
Hotel ( Accessible on level LB to 2 and 4, where keycard is not required ).
Uniquely enough, every lobby have their own different cab, and some elevators still have their own voice announcement, where some only left with chimes or no sounds at all.

I rode one of the refurbished cars (I think it was Lift C), it looks identical to the newly modernized ones at Shaw House except that the walls are black instead of bronze. Tried to film Lift C on the other day but failed as I kept getting the unrefurbished cars.

Seems like many are still unfamiliar with the PORT technology like the guy who got explained by someone else in the early stages of this video....

Every lift lobby has signs detailing how to use the lifts now.

Because some people are simply way too lazy to read the damn instructions!

There are very few cases where destination dispatch got tragically downgraded to traditional systems simply because people were complaining that it was "too" confusing. I heard that the PORT at Hilton Ballpark St. Louis was horribly modernized into non-DDE generic because of those stupid complaining people!
Oh come on, it's not that hard to use it so why would those stupid people complaining to the management that the system was difficult for them to use! It's as simple as 1, 2 and 3.

@@idl3k_elev Thankfully unlikely to happen in SG, especially in most office buildings as DD is used more for security than anything else.

@PL1: Same here in Indonesia. Many destination dispatch elevators in office buildings are implemented for security reasons which is why almost all of the newer ones (e.g. Schindler PORT, Mitsubishi DOAS and OTIS CompassPlus) are integrated with turnstiles. And fortunately people are already familiar with such system.
