Sutrio is my hometown. Zoncolan my first climb. I was 11 years old. Granpa bought me a MTB. I crashed on the way down, cooking the breaks. I still have scars on my knees. I own a pretty cottage, half-way up the third (hidden) route, via Priola. I’ve done two sides but never quite conquered Ovaro. Takes dedication.

Hi Marc,great video,you capture the steepness.the first K is the easy bit it's only 10%! The last average over 15%. It was really hard,I had a compact setup as I'm 120kg.in my opinion mortirolo is harder due to the gradient being constant,zonc and angliru are steeper yes,but you get respite as small as it is.i did it in 2018 and found it doable.the mortirolo from Togo St Agata is similar to zonc but high altitude at 1852m. Mortirolo is a great warmup for gavia. Zonc is just crazy! Coming down was frightening , I hit 92kmh without pedaling.if you are a cyclist you have to do it at least once.

Hi Marc, great video really loved it. I am happy to point out that I rode the Zoncolan age 21, 78 kilos with a steal bike from begin 90's. Gear was 39-28. I almost fainted first time. I rode it twice in one weekend.
I have yesterday, 15years later, returned to Zoncolan. I weigh now 92kilos. My bike has luckily improved and I rode 34-30. I made it together with my friend Zeger.
I will, however, be back.

Hola Marc, excelente reportaje. Tuve la dicha de subir el Zoncolan un domingo de mayo del 2016, el domingo antes de que terminara el Giro en Turín, el que le ganó finalmente VNibali al Chavito. Fué el Giro en donde nuestro compatriota Andrey Amador se enfundó la Magglia Rosa de líder en Cividale del Friuli, aunque fuera solo por un dia...y ahí estuve en esa llegada, por obra y gracia del destino. Eso fué un viernes, al otro día tomé rumbo para Udine/Ovaro etc en busca del mentao Zoncolan, estando ahí era imperdonable dejar pasar tan única oportunidad, aunque todo estaba planificado; que coincidiera el Giro con ese "punto caliente". ..te cuento, pequé de ingenuo y me llevé un 39/28 y así me las tuve que arreglar, aunque tuve que echar pie a tierra como 3 veces para agarrar aire, además que andaba con gripa por esos días...toda una odisea pero que se atesora de una manera especial!! I rode Angliru in 2015 and couldn't quite comprehend what I'd done & why... why the loco Spanish would put a road up there! Off to Italy in June for Zoncolan. Cannot wait... I think! Thanks for the video Marc!

I really love the "loco Spanish " for their road projects ... for example the Pico de Veleta at the Sierra Nevada. A almost senseless road to the top of a really high mountain... but absolutely wonderful to climb there with a roadbike. The view from above there, if you have the luck to reach the summit without snow on the road - when the weather is fine... simply mind blowing.

...ahhh, y ahora que lo mencionas, estuve por Asturias, igual de mochilero en bicicleta, en 2017 y, como no, con la mente puesta en el famoso Angliru, para variar un domingo de agosto..y sí, otra vez con el 39/28 del año anterior, solo que ésta vez si lo subí todo de a una, sentado, a pura fuerza y echado hacia adelante para que no se te alce la rueda delantera. desde Pola de Lena, con el Cordal por enmedio. Pola es un buen punto para subir Puertos porque desde ahí hice Ermita de Alba en el Municipio Quirós, con La Cobertoria (2 vertientes), El Gamoniterio, que es como la continuación de Cobertoria y el Puerto de Pajares/Cuitu Negru.

I think you should cover the Scanuppia next. Not as famous but 18% average over 7k sounds like a task. Apparently, some people did it on a road bike, albeit with mountain bike gearing.
