Itâs very interesting to point out in a majority of Asia, pale skin is a beauty standard because itâs been associated with wealth, as rich people who did not have to do manual labour outside did not tan. Meanwhile, in many Nordic countries, a tan is associated with wealth because only those rich enough to go on vacation in very warm countries get a tan while those who stay will suffer from lack of sun and become pale like ghosts.
It actually gets more interesting! Pale skin used to be desired in European cultures too for the same reason that it meant rich people didn't need to do manual labor. But in the 1890s/1900s at the height of industrial cities, so many children were developing rickets from smog blocking out sunlight that nations started to encourage vacations to coasts and outside of cities to recover health. This happened in the form of pushing tropical tourism, and eventually sunkissed skin signified good health - a life away from smog cities and children working in factories

Right????? It's extremely natural and for some people they can't even avoid it. My father is one of those people, he naturally has darker skin from his Italian routes but being a driver for over 20 years made him even darker. Getting sun is a good thing. It's healthy.

@remi nii That makes sense, and obviously bronzer looks dark to be a "marker" until you wash it off. But the reason this video may cause dark skinned people to be more appreciative of their natural melanin, is because tanning increases melanin production. There are people that spray-tan to mimic melanin increase. Many brown people may be insecure of their skin color, until they see people wanting to become darker. They aren't trying to imply something is wrong with being fair-skinned or "white". They are just saying that they should be grateful for their god-given melanin. People want what they don't have.
Or maybe thats just their natural skin color, the day we stop judging EVERY SINGLE COLOR OF SKIN TONE is the day racism ends

WAAAAY healthier than extreme UV exposure. you're supposed to wear sunblock outside, daily, even if you don't see the sun during the day, because THAT'S how bad UV rays are for you. people who do protect their skin, keep it in optimum condition, and look younger than the rest of the population.
But then again⊠The sun has UV rays which lead to cancer if overexposed.. Iâm not sure if preferring natural tan over chemical tan is that much better for your healthđł
Think about it this way, if anything is done too much, anything can be bad for you
Well I have a tan all year round and everybody loves it. All I want to say is be proud of the skin you're in
I hope it's not from a tanning bed! Take care! Xo

â@Ingoc don't you have a life?
I agree! I don't need to do all these extra work!
Theyre not trying to be ur colour tho just tan aka darker then they are and not even alot darker
@Ingoc LOL you are going after specifically every dark skinned person's post. Why you so mad? Let the video make them happy, stop trying to steal it. Get a life...
I think many light skinned people see these types of comments as a personal attack or something. I think it's very odd that same person is going to every comment like this one's. They shouldn't get this mad
Where my naturally tanned girls at â€ïž

@LĂšmon LÄe I donât think people should be so conceited about their skin color and making it a war, but calling someone a chocolate bar is just wrong

"Your left with the same tan"

No.

@@veeistiredasf wtf you talking about the end result is not exactly the same its a few shades off
@@marionamewontwork2681 i never said it's exactly the same smh wtf you talking about with the "2 different colour legs" like you gotta have some eye issues if you're seeing 2 diff colours
@@marionamewontwork2681 yeah it didnât really look the same, but itâs probably bcz it was two different brands and or she applied different amounts. I noted the difference too, but closer in shade than with the colour guard đ
When I was in middle school we wore shorts for PE and I was self conscious because my legs were whiter than the rest of my body. So I convinced my mom to get me a self tanner. I never watched any videos about how to apply it or anything. I donât have any pictures, but thinking back I can only imagine how horrible it looked lol
Tan people wanna get fair. Fair people wanna be tan. It really is a mad World đ
curly haired girls straighten and straight haired girls curl... it's all topsy turvy đđ€·đ»ââïžđ
And it's all about the beauty industry who lures us to think that we are not beautiful enough as we are so we need to change our appearance AND so we need to buy bronzers, fake tans, or in Asia, whiteners :(
What a sad world where money rules above everything :(
Your pale skin is so gorgeous.
Itâs interesting to me that POC only really became something of a regular occurrence in the âbeautyâ community around 2012 or so (I could be a bit off), but yet lighter skinned people have been wanting to be tanner for decades on decades. Iâm so happy that having a bigger bottom, large lips, and a darker complexion are not a negative stereotype now.
they can still be used as negative stereotypes, even though they shouldn't be.
