Btw. The engine is not used by the surfer. The original one didn't had one. Both, the rust and normal one, had glitches all over. The backdoors didn't even open like them do now. I bet they thought, don't feeling like fix those problems. Just do a new one with a few parts. We still need one for the hippi mission and don't wanna show the brocken mess of the old ones.

I think they should have just added these options to the OG Surfer like they did with the Picador in the last DLC
Then they wouldn't be able to milk players out of spending another $600k on a vehicle you can find on the street
The surfer situation is a little bit different from the Picador, looking at the overall differences between the original surfer and the surfer custom (ignoring the raised windshield panes). First of all the surfer custom features some minor fixes to the overall surfer model that may not be particularly noticeable unless you actually own the OG surfer, these are:
-back doors; despite the original featuring the sliding door grooves, the surfer didn’t actually have sliding doors, instead they opened in the same way the front doors do. The door handle is also on the opposite end of the door.
-trunk latch/handle; the handle on the trunk door of the OG surfer isn’t attached to the trunk, so when you open the trunk in the vehicle menu the handle is left floating in its place.
-engine; the OG surfer doesn’t have an engine, opening the hood in the vehicle menu will reveal an empty compartment.
Another thing to note is that the surfer custom holds two more people than the OG surfer, so another surfer variant would be needed either way to keep the overall consistency with the OG surfer. No idea why they didn’t give us the Surfer custom and gave some/all of the customisation options to the OG surfer as well, perhaps something to do with the rusty variant.
Seriously, they should have done that at the bare minimum. What they really should have done was added a van that isn’t slammed on muscle wheels and actually looks like the real life van. This is just another Comet SR.

one cool thing i noticed is that the passenger doors actually slide on this one instead of opening outwards like the original, great looks but realllyyyyy should’ve just been part of the Benny’s catalog
They could have done a lot with the interior
this DLC seems very...lazy and rushed. especially the cars. So far a big disappointment

The interior would have been nice, but a curtain option for the windows would have been the icing on the cake!
Window curtains with Benny's interior so I can pop those doors open and show off the inside at car meets would be perfect. Honestly lack of Benny's interior ruins this car for me entirely.
The Mothership livery is a reference to The Truth's van from GTA: San Andreas. I love it!
They finally fixed the way the rear doors open. It was already funny enough they had rear doors on BOTH sides, but what was even funnier was the slide tracks for the rear doors, but made them swing open rather than slide.
It would’ve been nice if the safari windows in front opened and closed. Also a front and back bumper that’s tied to your secondary color.
Love the VW bus, probably my favorite car from the DLC.
I thought the lack of a custom interior and the bumper options were disappointing, but the moment I found out I could change the roof color, I forgive it all.
Now if they removed the roof options rockstar and i would have a problem
Well, I believe the OG Surfer only sat 2 people, this one seats 4 and has working sliding doors, so that's kind of an update.
Also the OG Surfer doesn't have an engine model I think.
12:28 the engine model isn't reused from the regular Surfer, because the regular Surfer has no engine model at all; that space is literally empty on that one.
Its weird as it did have an engine, and then it disappeared
It's really unfortunate that this isn't a Benny's car, but hey at least it's cheap lol, even tho some of the customization could've been a little better, and fuller, but other than that, yeah it's okay lmao, it should've been like the rusty surfer though, except clean as it is, plus maybe an older interior.

Im glad they finally added some customization to this vehicle, i been wanting to customize this ever since i first saw it when the game came out! Lol
This one if you ask me is purely added just to have the car numbers for the drip feed,more cars means "more content". This could literally have had all its costumizations added to the original like they did in the summer with a few of the past vehicles.
The standards for R* go lower and lower man its literally the original but with just a couple more things that you can change yet it still costs half a mil, that's R* for ya.
Also the Mothership livery is the one from The Truth's van, nice little easter egg there tho that alone will not wash away the f-up R* did with this DLC imo.
They drip feed most of the content because thst keeps player count high

I know why they do it but its a trash way of doing it and it doesn't help them and the game at all from any point of view imo, then again R* never gave a shit about the players or their playtime all they care is if they buy them juicy shark cards or not XD
This is truly a missed opportunity by Rockstar, I would have spent a lot of cash if it had more to offer. Thanks for the video the build looks good.
If it had Benny's interior and a few more bumper options I'd buy it but as is it's too lazy for the price tag, waste of garage space

The rear sliding door actually works. On the old surfer they open like standard doors

Man, this kind of vehicle has so much potential! It really should have been a Benny's version for sure! A custom interior would be sweet! 😅😁👍🏻 love the VW bus. Wish it had some more options overall, but I still like it. It's alright.

i would love a bennies rat rod version of this that guts the interior and replaces it with a monster v8 right in the middle, gosh imagine having a blower coming out the top or exhausts coming out the sides, so many endless oppurtunitys
@Digital, the rear doors. OG Surfer open like regular car doors, on this new one they actually slide. Also, lower compartment in the back, OG surfer is an actual compartment, on this new one, the motor has been placed in there.
When I get mine I’m gonna do turquoise and either white or a very light cream color….and that wooden surfboard….gonna make a 60/70s vehicle look like an old woodys car lol
That's a pretty fair price considering the prices for other cars.
What I don’t get is those front windshields, you can see that there’s glass in the normal spots, so why are the frames open? Also, it seems that the rear doors now slide open instead of opening outwards like they did on the old one. And it actually has an engine model now. This really seems like they should have just added these parts to the old Surfer van, like they did with the Picador and other cars in the last DLC

They added the mothership livery from san Andreas and I'm on that part of the story with the truth in the middle of the woods currently that was a cool coincidence

I'm guessing they wanted to just add a couple things to the old surfer, but someone decided to fix the rear doors while they were at it so it had to become a new version.

R* is literally teasing us with involving the Lost in the first mission and giving us a Lost MC livery on a hippie van but still not allowing us to have the Lost slamvan for purchase

Love this vehicle but I'm really disappointed you can't do anything with the interior.
The original surfer does NOT have a modeled engine!! I'm glad this one does.... But I don't know if it's worth me getting the new my old one is fine.
Hugely disappointed by the lack of customization here. I was dying to have a pop top roof version of the VW Bus!

I hate how this game instead of updating customisation, just forces you to pay a lot more for basic cars with a few small changes... I do hope 6 has a lot more options and isnt so dull and lazy

The lack of interior mods is a bummer and also those front windows annoy me. They could surely have animated them like active spoilers so that they close as you pull away. Or even linked them to whether the engine is running.
Heck they could even have made them work like a convertible roof.

Actually it isn't nothing like the normal surfer, the doors don't slide, and it doesn't have a engine, but it is a let down that it isn't more like the real bus, like we have so many cats that are so close to their real counterparts, but we still get the ugly two lights bus

The rear doors actually open different. The old one had suicide doors, no joke, they were that lazy back then.
You weren't supposed to open them, and it's a leftover from the mid-00s days. The minivans in GTA IV had standard rear doors instead of sliding ones.
