Upon observing the response of "Ligma balls", the person who asked about Ligma becomes infected with Ligma. This also has varients, such as "Sugma" and "Candace". For more research, I recommend looking up Lessons in Meme Culture, as there should be a video covering Ligma. If not, I can see if I can find a video that can explain Ligma better than I can.

I'm always fascinated by fake leakers who go after very small games. In the Heroes of the Storm community, there was this guy who made fake hero reveals, like, several times a year. And they were ALWAYS convincing. He posted artworks, patch notes, chat logs with developers, just so many different tactics always under shell accounts. For his last ever fake, he teamed up with a HotS model viewer website and made a fake 3D Hogger model, and uploaded it to that site. That is some fucking dedication to trick like 20 people.
The funniest part was that the guy's name was NotBelial. In Diablo (one of the games that has characters in Heroes of the Storm), Belial is the Lord of Lies. Also NotBelial always had two major "tells" that became memes within the community: the obscure WoW raid boss Terokk as a playable character and Raptors as a cosmetic mount.
Also, perhaps by sheer coincidence, the last Hero added to HotS was Hogger.
@@mettikus The whole Terokk/raptor thing only made it more convincing. "Terokk riding a raptor is the next hero" was a meme for ages (long story), and the HotS team loved ascending community in-jokes.
7 years ago, I saw leaks of apparent spider Gwen and doctor strange figures for Disney infinity and I thought they were fan art, then I found out they were real years later and cried myself to sleep for a week

I miss the days when leaks used to be so obviously fake that it was fun. Nowadays in an age when we can't tell a parody article from the Onion is real or not, leaks stopped being fun and became obnoxious because they made to be real just for the sake of damn clickbait.
I remember hearing that the white Pikmin gummies give you salmonella, when nobody realized that the Onion article made a joke based on the fact that the white Pikmin is indeed poisonous.
The only game series with leaks that actually sometimes makes me bummed out are the Smash Character leaks because it sucks when it's a somewhat convincing leak with a character you want but it ends up being false.
I was going to try to create my own fake article with the headline “Mall shooting ends with fatal shootout when two mass shooters cross paths”. I decided to not bother because I figured it was only a matter of time until a situation similar to that actually happens.

The one I fell for was how to get Cave Story's secret ending. It's a bit of a tragic game with a lot of characters that die. The secret ending allowed you to save everyone and they showed how to get it with actual game footage which had actually been modded from the original game. When I realized it was fake my whole day was ruined ;-;

The Grinch leak was especially wack because nobody seems to know who made it. Usually someone takes credit but this person dropped this leak out there and disappeared.

I never thought it was real. As realistic as everyone thought it was at the time the one thing that told me it was false was that it was the Grinch. I knew for a FACT Nintendo wasn't going to put a random non game character into the game, so when the final reveal trailer showed Incineroar instead, I sat there with a smug grin on my face as dozens of people reacted in disbelief. To me it was super obvious, so seeing all the believers get annihilated like that was incredibly satisfying.

I love how people used the scenery behind Sakurai to try to guess new fighters, meanwhile Sakurai “hinted” at Byleth by holding his fingers in a freaking binary notation to allude to Byleth’s numerical entry in the FE series. Because who’d ever guess THAT?

That's why even the loneliest people, those used to being alone for longer periods, they can also get driven mad by isolation. Like Joaquin Phoenix Joker says, unless you make an impact, you don't really feel like you exist. The Smash Wii U Rayman and Mario Odyssey Delfino Plaza leak really got me by it’s really huge effort put into it.

Incineroar was the fighter I wanted to be added and when he showed up in the screen, I laughed and teared that Incineroar crashed the Grinch leak. XD
I wanted Decidueye but really I would've been happy with any new Pokémon character so I also got really excited when I saw Incineroar.
That thumbnail can't help but make me think of some Grinch video game with Jim Carrey's Grinch instead of the 2018 animated one (or the one that was actually made). I can just imagine that demon face in 8-bit haunting my nightmares.
One big fake leak that I really like was one for halo 4 before it was even revealed to exist. The image was just master chief photoshopped in front of a worm monster from a half life 2 mod. But at the time it became massive and people still believed it after it was revealed to be fake.

one of my favorite fake leaks is a fairly new one for pokemon scarlet and violet, and theres a bunch of names that are puns. and theres an evolution line and if you put all the names together, theyre literally called anyone can make a fake leak
I remember a SV fake leak showing off a paldean oddish that looked like a pinapple and one of a black tauros which admittedly looks cooler than the one we got
"Pokemon Star" was the code name for ultra sun and moon during its development to avoid the actual names leaking. In the same way that "Pokemon Rainbow" was a code name for sun and moon. People were just confused

Creating a fake screenshot isn't enough - to make it really convincing you need to take a photo of the screen with your phone, but move around while taking it to make it look somehow legitimate!
Schaffrilas mentioned the Grinch thing in his Illumiation video, and despite being a Smash fan, I somehow missed it entirely. I was curious, but for some reason didn't look into it much.

One hoax I saw when I was younger, back in 2009 or so, I saw a picture of Spyro the dragon for the Xbox 360. It was just the box art for Spyro 2, but stretches to fill the 360s box art but I was SO convinced that it was real that I begged my parents to get me the console. All because I glanced at fake box art for maybe a minute
the grinch one wasn't fake, toby fox had to remove him from the super smash brother because SEGA didn't have enough time to code in his full, god-like glory before the game came out

Pokemon Fusion had a bit more to it than just being a rumor. It wasn't Pokemon fusing with Pokemon, but Pokemon fusing with people. There was a special event Greninja that had some of Ash's features and a manga with a similar concept released around the same time. (Not entirely sure on the manga thing, please correct me if I'm mistaken)
The manga is Pokémon ReBurst, isn’t it. Horrible manga, got cancelled pretty quickly.
