172 Intro Let's Fly Over The St. Joseph River, Michigan

The cities of St. Joseph and Benton Harbor lie at the southeast edge of Lake Michigan, the fifth largest lake in the world.
Today, Whirlpool Corporation and Lakeland Regional Medical Center are the two biggest employers but St. Joe is really a mecca for beachgoers, boaters and lighthouse nuts like me.
An integral part of the success of the city of St. Joe is its eponymous river.
In my upcoming series, we’re going to take a look at the hard-working St. Joe River, as its watershed drains 4685 square miles from 15 counties,
as it flows through small and large towns, drops 581 feet in elevation,
as it pours over 17 dams, from its source 206 miles away
to where it becomes a tributary of Lake Michigan.
Come with me and we will fly over some of southern Michigan’s most beautiful landscapes as we follow the St. Joe from its humble beginning to its mighty end.
